The answer is yes, often. However on this occasion we excelled ourselves. We had taken a photographer friend to the #InlandSea area of the Qatar Desert to take some video footage and pictures for a project that he was working on.
As we set off to leave, we managed to get both our vehicles stuck, at the same time.
The Land Cruiser had driven down a series of hollows from the top of a dune. Each hollow had very soft sand in the bottom.
The Xterra got stuck in the first one hollow.
The Land Cruiser came back around the dune to help and also got stuck on top of dune. It was inching out, until 4:47, when the frame hit the sand and all traction went.
Both Vehicles were pretty well buried onto the frame. The Land Cruiser was recovered with a ground anchor, winch and a little digging.
The rope on the winch then got jammed, we pulled it out by using the ground anchor and reversing the cruiser with the free spool on the winch disengaged.
Then drove the Land Cruiser back to the top of the dune and recovered the Xterra with the winch.
It took around 90 minutes in total and is the most stuck we have ever managed.

It was great adventure👍🏻 btw what was the tyre pressure when it got stuck? And why you did not put down the tyre pressure to the minimum? I have read your comments in one video that u keep 15psi in 900 tyre's which is a lot.

I run the tyres between 13 and 15. I have gone lower in the past, but have rolled the bead off the wheel.

how does this tire handle in the sand compared to normal street tires? Please I can't find any good information about these balloon tires. In what ways are they good and in what ways are they bad? in sand and on road too? THANK YOU

They are great in sand, deflated to around 15psi. They have a deep sidewall and drive from there as well as the tread. The tread is quite smooth and does not dig holes like a mud tire. They are terrible on the road, hard to balance bad grip and wear out quickly. They were illegal on the road here until around 3 years ago.

@@QatarSandMan How bad are they on road? Are they an actual hazard or do I just have to take it easy and drive a little slower? Sorry for too many questions. It's because I hear people telling me they are great and fine even on road except rain, and some say they are not suitable for roads.

@@and7976 I drive daily on the road, up to the speed limit. I would not say they are dangerous, but they do change the handling of the car and the grip is not as good as road Tires. You also have to lift the car by 2 inches to fit them. This also changes the handling. It is only worth fitting them if you drive in sand a lot. If it is a trip every few weeks, it is not worth doing.

@@QatarSandMan I find my highway tires 285/65-17 to be doing great in sand. I have the same land cruiser as you, with the 4.7 v8. Lifted with OME and SPC UCA. It is good at low pressures. The problem here is we have rocks and the sidewall on these keeps getting damaged. The balloon tires have tougher sidewall since it's a bias ply. I have the option of trying something like BFG for tougher sidewall but I am afraid they will dig to no end.
