Fun fact: The actor who played Billy was notorious violent alcoholic and was infamous for drinking and picking fights with cast/crew or getting into bar brawls after filming. Part of the condition of his hiring is that he was required to have a sobriety/security “coach” to keep him from drinking/fighting while filming. Althought skipping the fight works perfectly in the movie for time/repetition/foreshadowing…the director may have wanted to finish this guys scenes and be done with him.

Just always assumed, as it is implied in the movie, that they had a one-on-one duel on the log - edged weapon VS edged weapon. Billy's large hunting knife was obviously no match for the Predator's wrist blades and superior size/strength. ..and then later when he goes one-on-one with Dutch, he discards his weapons and attacks him with his fists, backhands him, and toys with the smaller/weaker human like a cat would toy with a rat. He's doing it for pleasure. He gets braver after killing the first few with projectile weapons, then goes to melee weapons, then hand-to-hand. Glad they went with the version of the story they did and kept it relatively simple and straight forward - other version seemed too weird and artsy. I much prefer the simpler 'Hunter' motivation for the Predator character VS the novelization/early script where he's some kind of curious, amorphous being who is studying the creatures and murdering them without any emotion.

As a knife enthusiast, carried "hunting" knives are most often under 4 inches, for field dressing& skinning, . Some guys use bigger choppers or hatchets to quarter big game like elk and moose. Billy's knife is massive, pretty sure it's either a bowie or a combat machete. ...grammar natzee out ✌

I don't think it was him getting braver... It would simply be stupid for him to just jump in a crowd of heavily armed special ops soldiers.... Billie challenged him and since Predators have some kind of honor code he granted him his wish... With Dutch, it was clear Dutch didn't really have a weapon so he discarded his blade for an "honorable" I don't see predators playing with their prey like cats do... He was simply showing dominance.. To show his "prey" that even in a honorable fight.. He is nothing compared to him... But luckily Dutch had one last trap left because it seemed to be if it wasn't for that trap the Predator would have gone for the kill since the fight was done..

Don’t forget that the entire build up of the movie led to the predator reveal at the end in his duel with Dutch after his stealth camo malfunctioned. The director obviously wasn’t going to spoil that tension by showing off the predator fighting against Billy before that climax, especially when it still had its camo-tech capabilities while it was chasing them. Billy’s moment of confronting the predator was him sacrificing himself to buy his team mates time, while at the same time showing to the audience that even someone as brave and strong as Billy and badass was no match for the entity. It added yet another layer of suspense and despair for the protagonist’s situation. Having his demise be off screen and hearing his cries of pain before his death, was basically part of the whole “don’t show off the monster yet, and keeping suspense for the audience mantra of monster movie 101”. We as a fan base years later can have fun speculating and theorizing what exactly went down between Billy and the predator, but it’s inconsequential and means nothing. What the predator did to Billy or if there was even a fight between them wasn’t the purpose of his final moment. It was just a story telling device to keep suspense, and I’ve always personally saw it as Billy sacrificing himself like a lamb to buy his friends some time, which is why he cut himself across his chest with his knife. Your immediate response is “oh shit he’s gunna make a final stand and fight” but I never considered it a fight, especially when the scream came immediately after and Dutch & Co reacted and turned around instantly. So Billy’s sacrifice to stall and give Dutch some distance didn’t do much really and barely slowed the creature down if at all, which I think was the point as well in adding more dread and suspense. Whatever the comics or novels or we as a fan base say is pure fan fiction. What matters is the movie and I hate be be blunt or insensitive but, Billy’s death ain’t that deep. It was pretty self explanatory in the film. I know how much some people would’ve liked to see what happened but it would e been a disservice to the film. It wasn’t yet time to show off the Pred, and the monster was still invisible at that point.

It wasn't invisible to the audience by the time Billy challenged the predator. It had already revealed itself to Dillon when it deliberately showed itself to him whilst up a tree. So, the audience already knew what the predator looked like.

That was reserved for Dutch by the filmmaker towards the end. Like I said it would’ve diminished the actual reveal at the end with Dutch if the audience got a good look at him fighting Billy in a fleshed out fight scene. It wasn’t time yet. It wasn’t until the water scene when it’s cloak malfunctioned that we as audience can actual feast our eyes on the predators design and all the details as it slowly walks out of the water.

Billy was completely hardcore and the most interesting character in Dutch's squad. If any member of the team stood a chance of taking out the predator, it was Billy, with his native red Indian tracking skills, superb fieldcraft and ability to sense a malevolent presence in the jungle. Billy becomes tired of being constantly hunted and running from the enemy. He conquers his own fear and decides to resort to his native red Indian warrior culture- unarmed combat. Epic bravery- entering a fight he knows is very likely to be his last in order to buy time for the remaining members of the squad. I've always felt that the director missed an opportunity by not depicting Billy's fight with the predator. He should have been depicted fighting tenaciously and ferociously- inflicting some damage- slicing the predator, prior to going down himself.

The only thing that would have made 'Predator' better was NOT showing a spaceship at the beginning of the movie. But instead, leaving the nature of the threat unknown to begin with. The audience should know as much as the characters themselves. NOTHING. But as the movie goes on. The supernatural nature of the threat slowly melts away by building more and more evidence that suggests the enemy was not supernatural, but an advanced alien hunter. This builds courage in the audience as 'Dutch' also gains his courage. "If it bleeds, we can kill it."

This is actually a real military maneuver done.. Not something that is ordered just something brave soldiers do. Billy confronting the Predator at the log bridge was more of an attempt to slow the enemy down as to cover his comrades retreat with Dutch carrying the wounded. This reminds me of the Battle of Stamford Bridge. It was the last major battle of the Vikings and ended there era of conquest when the Anglo Saxon army surprise attacked the Vikings in the early morning hours. They put up a fight with many casualties because they were unprepared with no armor on. One great lone brave Viking warrior stayed behind on the bridge to cover the retreat of the remaining Viking force to carry casualties back to the ships. Just like Billy the Viking sacrificed his life in order that others may live.

I always read into this scene as something cultural pertaining to Shamanism. Carlos Castaneda talks about this in his books around the Yaqui, and how to become a man of knowledge and ascend, you will need to confront the spirit, and fight it and win in order to transcend. At this point in the film the predator still hasn’t been scene fully, the audience have only seen the Yautja in its cloaking camouflage or quick snap shots partially covered by trees. If there had been a scene of Billy fighting it on the log then it would had taken away the suspense of the final battle against Dutch and the infamous scene of the Yautia coming out of the water

_Here's my theory:_ Upon arriving to the bridge log, Predator witnesses Big Billy standing in his way, with big bowie unsheathed. The Predator is so impressed with Billy's bravery that he rushes Billy to throw a high 5!!! When Billy realizes the Predator is actually cool, he begins to laugh outloud.... the same laugh that imprints on the Predator. They both clutch each other's hands and dance in a circle chanting "Besties! Besties! Besties!!" It was then the Predator pulls out a handful of magical Predator dust, blows it in Billy's face, thus transporting Billy safely and instantly back to his trailer in Alabama's Shady Oaks Trailer Park. I often wondered what happened to the predator pod from the first movie. If Arnold survived that small nuclear bomb, then so should've the pod/transporter. Surprised that's never ever talked about. Surely the government would have searched for it. 🤔

I did talk about the Pod/Ship the Predator came in during an older video of Predator 2 possible script changes. The only thing i was able to dig up, was that the ship automatically went back to its homeworld upon the Jungle Hunters defeat.

Where the City Hunter would learn about Dutch either from the recorded data on the Bio mask, or from the Ship going back to their homeworld with the info. The City Hunter would then go to earth to hunt Dutch. Again, this is a from an older video so I'm going off my guess here. I'd have to watch that video and give you proper details about it. But it was a proposed way for Predator 2 to start. But since Dutch was not available, they changed the story.

I always imagined that the Predator would of sneaked up on billy, crawling while invisible on the underside of bridge/fallen tree trunk that Billy made his final stand on, then surprise attacking him from the back, instantly inpaling Billy with his wrist blades, similar to how he killed Dillon moments earlier.

I've watched this movie more times than I can count, Billy stood his ground, the predator didn't care because it wanted Dutch, it wasted Billy immediately and stashed his body, after chasing Dutch and losing him, the predator returns to billies dead body, pulls his spine and skull from his body amd kicks his body from the tree. There, that's what happened to Billy.

Billy knew he was gonna die. And didn't want to die running. He decided to choose the time and face death as a warrior. The Predator did "respect" him at least in the context of the way he took his skull, cleaned and saved it as a "trophy" where other kills he took only a bone or trinket to save. Predator was there for the experience of the hunt. Like when Dutch said "no sport" it wasn't there just to kill, it was therer to experience the hunt. Which is why when it grabbed Dutch's face toward the end, he examined his skull and decided this was a trophy to remember. Which is why it stripped off all its weaponry, helmet and went hand to hand with Dutch. To make it a kill worth remembering, and a trophy it could be proud of when it returned home. At least that's the way I saw it as a lifelong hunter.

I’m not acid glow but back on the game avp 2010 the ending showed the predators and weyland Yutani going to Xenomorph prime where a sequel would’ve taken place but the company Rebellion lost the license and never made it so the potential of predators hunting queen mother is all gone :(

I always thought that Billy's death was a loss for the film. He was probably one of the most interesting characters in the squad, and when you consider his bloodline and how his people dealt with these damn Space Tarzans before, he gets even cooler. I think I can safely say that if they ever show how that fight played out on that log, it would make an already perfect movie that much more. I always secretly hoped that BIlly somehow made it, but w/e I guess. Instead, I got Danny Glover in L.A. of all places. Danny Glover is a great guy, but I always thought it was so odd seeing him dealing with a Space Tarzan of his own. IF they brought Billy back for Predator 2 - either in Danny's place or a supporting role - I would have been jumping for joy. Keep Gary Busey either way, of course lol

@@lordoffaiyum9727 The IDEA was very good and fun, no doubt. But Danny Glover as the lead? I just can't wrap my mind around Him chasing a freaking Yautja all over the place. Wesley Snipes instead? F*ckin' hell yes! But not Danny. Though to Danny's credit, he did look like he was really performing there - nothing but sweat every time he was on screen lol. Plus there was no "connection" to the first film; apart from what Gary Busey's character mentions to Danny's mid-film.

@@Mystyx-Sama I think having Danny Glover as the lead was a good decision, it made the movie more realistic and tense. Because he has less advantages being older and less in size than Dutch. So the audience doesn't fully expect he can defeat a Predator. But with Snipes we'd expect him to win due to his youth and physicality, which would make the movie more predictable and less exciting.

With how quick the predator caught up to Dutch, you could argue he simply pushed Billy off the log to save time so he could keep up. Just a theory I have always had since a kid. It’s not as cool or heroic as going out in a knife fight, but it makes some sense if you look at the time from when you hear the scream to when he catches up to Dutch and Pancho.

I would be up to watching a 2 or 2.5 hour movie of a great hunt full of history about a Hunter. Kinda like what they do with Batman movies now. You see the Predator ripping out Billy’s spine in a tree before the final fight with Dutch, right after Dutch lifts the log for his spike trap at the 1:22 min mark of the movie… that’s what happened to him. How he died?, well a good hunter doesn’t want to damage his trophies unless he has to. You could deduce that the Predator respected Billy by the care and admiration while cleaning his skull I guess. The screaming was Billy passing a kidney stone. The Predator then took Billy to a nearby hospital to recover. Billy currently resides in Florida with his husband and poodle and runs a Mr Whippy van ✌️
