Manek Iridius Thing is, Betruger constantly talked shit at you, which made the antagonism between you and him more palpable. He also seems to be in charge, like Betruger was possessed by Satan himself or something, whereas Olivia was still just a lackey at the end of the day. Those two things serve to make Dr. Betruger a more enjoyable antagonist. Helps that he’s also extremely hammy, like he’s channeling Emperor Palpatine whenever he’s going full blown demonic evil.

I believe Betruger died when he entered the portal. Considering the form we find him in he is literally a tongue inside the mouth of a demon. As if the Demon is speaking through him. Using him as a mouth piece. Wouldnt make sense for the Demons to keep good on their promise with a human. Regardless makes me wonder what the real Betruger was like before entering the portal, kinda sad to think about.

@@GGGmod1 Possibly, i should mention in Dante’s Inferno there is an idea that if someone commits a great sin (murder, rape, etc) a demon snatches their soul for hell and then possess the corpse to parade as that human for the rest of its life. Its a little out of left field but honestly if Betruger was a demon possessed corpse that’d be a nice inverse of Samuel Hayden.

Wrong, the story is very clear and has left leaning points. The news are hilarious and the corporate ads on mars city feel like union busting tactics. I mean doom guy doesn't shoot civilians and he's not wicked i feel like most soilders get turned during the demonic break in to prove a point. The only reason why it feels different is because the scenarios are far too confined and the Marine moves too slow, other than that is story wise not too different from those 2.

Between the events of Doom 64 and Doom 2016, an unknown cycle of universe's coming and going passed. Doom guy stayed in hell, becoming the Slayer. Becoming legend. Each universal loops has an earth, a UAC and the like. At some point Doom guy made (or someone) the soul cube. During one of those universal loops, Doom 3 happens. Referencing the events of Doom via the slab and the cube. Doom Slayer wasn't involved in the events though. Part of me hopes Eternal will reference the two heros, Doom Slayer and the Marine.

I like to think Doom 3 happens simultaneously as the original Doom. We got to see how the demonic invasion uncovers in the first moments of Doom 3, and when it happened, it was at the same time classic Doom also began. Doomguy and Doom Marine both battled through the evil unleashed and went to Hell, in different spots (although Doomguy went to Deimos first)

i wonder what happened to Hayden and the crucible in doom eternal, but i have a theory.....in the eternal gameplay it shows the archvile and Doom Guy is wielding a handle with his Hell Mark on it and then it makes an energy blade the same shape as when Hayden took it from Doom Guy at the end of Doom 2016, which suggests it may be the crucible, but also at the end of Doom 2016 Hayden teleports him to an unknown location, but he couldnt have been teleported to earth, what was the point in that? i feel he was teleported back to hell and somehow Doom Guy managed to get back to Mars somehow, but that doesnt sit well with me, and the idea that he couldve been teleported to earth isnt any better...so somehow Doom Guy got back on Mars where Hayden was last seen and got a hold of the crucible while also using the technology on the Mars base to upgrade his suit, maybe with or without Haydens help, and in the process accidentally creating a portal from hell to earth

What I hate about Doom 3 is that you don't fight Betruger as the final boss in the main story when you should have, especially after all that running around causing demonic havoc on Mars (and Earth if the portal never got closed) and killing everyone on it. Resurrection of Evil kinda fixed it but my opinion still stands. I want one of the future Doom games to have an antagonist that has a huge resemblance to Betruger, kinda like the same person, and have Doomguy beat him as a Demon (similar to the Maledict).

I wonder if Betruger met the Maledict when he went through the portal the first time. Up until when he did he was only being heavily influenced by the demons and only when he went to Hell did the Maledict possess him thus the changes he showed, when he came back Betruger was dead it was the Maledict that came back wearing him. I doubt demons even for mortal working for them would give any power to them without the intention to reclaim it IE possessing them. If I was that demon I’d would’ve lured him to me then take him over and go back to make sure everything is in place for the invasion. Later after the base and in RoE he’s been completely consumed only keeping his head as a means to speak with us and for narrative.

My favourite doom in the series. While every now and again I enjoy some fast paced run and gun of Brutal Doom and Doom4, to me story and atmosphere tops brainless twitch shooting. And doom is really rich with lore and not many people realise that doom3 4 ties in, just most people don't really know that or are too ignorant to look into it. Like the tablets here showing the Doom slayer from Doom4, the ultimate slayer who you get to play in D4, who is actually the warrior of this ancient race with the power of many. In D4 it's not really explained. It's all here.

So as far I can tell Doom 3 tried to describe events of DOOM and DOOM 2 to a degree, which is not bad but Resurrection of Evil went off the rails of the premise of 1&2 while adding its own flair. Its often thought Doom 64 is actually doom 3 and this doom 3 is its own storyline which is not wrong due to the newest DOOM and now DOOM eternal will add more to the storyline. Betruger is often a dismissed evil character but his often cruel and demented thoughts make him a decent character.
