ACNE SCAR TREATMENTS treating the royal family
This is a true story on why I declined to treat the Saudi Royal family despite the rather generous financial incentive. Acne scar revision is a medical procedure. Make no mistake that even in the best of hands with extra precautions, unforeseen adverse events can occur- my most common problem is post inflammatory pigmentation, followed by infection. Other potential side effects include arterial occlusion, nerve damage and idiosyncratic scarring- all extremely rare side effects. If adequate follow up is not within my control, I often decline to treat patients. My ethos is safety before results.
These are the reasons why I, or some dermatologist or plastic surgeons may elect NOT to treat you-
1. First do no harm. That is rule of medicine and our oath. If I perceive the risk benefit ratio is too high I will not treat you. This means even if you sign a waiver I will not do it. An example is to treat acne or chickenpox scars with say Sculptra, fat transfer, Radiesse or even Artifill or Bellafill in the forehead. If I take all the precautions, I still may hit an artery, and this may lead to permanent blindness. I will use an HA filler but not any others.
2. If our goals are not aligned - namely if your goal is have flawless glowing skin, however my goal, due the limitations of both my skill sets and technology can ‘only’ improve 90% of your scars.
3. If I perceive that this treatment is beyond my skill sets & YOU choose to be a client and NOT a patient. My treatments in the context of acne scarring is medical & not cosmetic, hence I only treat objectively measured acne scars. For patients who have subjectively severe scarring I will still work on your scars, providing you do it my way- this is in your best interest.
4. If I perceive that there maybe an element of dysmorphorbia AND you are not willing to work with me to help you, this overlaps with the above. Acne scarring is more than just physical- its mental & emotional scarring. The majority of patients with severe scars can see improvement as they are positive in their thinking. If you are a negative thinker, & despite objective improvement that you fail to see improvement, I may elect to work in with a psychologist; once again in your best interest.
5. If you are rude to my staff, including both reception or my nursing staff, this may compromise patient care. This reflect upon the outcomes and my perceived abilities. I work under a corporate entity, and if my staff are rude to you in any way, the ‘big guns’ namely the company, not myself will deal with that. Being rude to people is disrespectful, and may reflect a personality trait that I do not want to work with. I enjoy my work immensely. Only a very small minority of patients make my day painful. There are many other dermatologist who will see you for money, I am one of those.
6. If you take your own post operative care into your own hands or ignore my post op follow ups.Checks are done for a reason, - safety. I do not charge for wound care, nor low level laser healing sessions, unlike most dermatologists. My aim is to heal your skin up as quickly as possible & discharge you back home. I am meticulous with wound care. If you turn up for checks, or keep in touch with my staff with emails & photos for my many International patients, I can minimise side effects.
In 2019 I will introduce new changes to my practice to try to eliminate the 3-5% of patients that take up so much of my time. This gives me more time to conduct research, complete papers and spend more time on the many patients that I enjoy treating. I am passionate about my job, but also understand I have a duty of care, if you think I do not live up to your expectations, or if you are a total ars*hole I will give you a report, but will refer you on to other dermatologist who will gladly see you- Google ‘Acne Scars’ in your City & you will find these dermatologist.
For those trolls and angry patients on every website or Instagram who dislike every post I have from skin care tips to my supposedly fake before and after photos, the 100k challenge is still there. Goto @drdavinlim to earn a lazy 100k.
Remember, I give you 100 K if my photos are fake, however if they are true, you will donate that 100 K to a charity of my choice. Untrue reviews are now IP traced, - I don’t like getting lawyers involved as it’s not my style.

@@drdavinlim It upsets me to a good doctor get bad reviews but bad doctors get away with ruining a person’s face. A plastic surgery burned half my face with an IPL laser. First time using it on my face, he had his assistant do the treatment unattended, which she had never done before. He had the machine at the highest setting and never did a patch test. When I complained of extreme pain, they told me that was good and that meant I would get a good result and just kept on going. The doctor admitted fault for the entire incident, but provided no treatment to fix the damage. I have spent over $2000 US and still require additional treatments. No matter how many official complaints I place with government agencies, nothing is done to him. Patients really need to appreciate a good dermatologists like you, because such doctors are the exception to the rule nowadays.

M. E. Valencia it’s much easier and convenient to get the doc to come to them than them traveling with a security team, taking days off etc. money isn’t an issue with them, they can afford it. If this is a minor he or she would have to travel with guardians too, take days off from school etc.

If one or a bunch of sisters contacted you that does not mean the the whole tribe "The royal family" did, I wish you more specific. I have dealt with 7 members of the royal family in different personal project that are related to my profession as an interior architect and I never feared that someone could visit them and tell them Ohhh who is this bad designer who made your home and then worry about them coming back to me to blame me. There were very humble clients just like any other clients of mine. Your video implements like they are scary people with unpredictable reactions but the truth is they are just like us all. And just like us if we get bad results from a treatment by a doctor we will sure blame the doctor (Human nature). Doctors should do their best and never worry what would the patient think of them as long as they worked professionally and with honesty."

Wow Dr Lim great story! Very tempting offer but you did not only showed your ethics but your intelligence when you didn't accept the job with the Royals. Wow. My father is a retired Race Horse Veterinarian and racehorse orthopedic surgeon. In the 90"s the royal family of Abu Dhabi contacted my father and wanted him to come and treat their horses. He went over three times. Then they wanted him to move there and become their full-time vet. They offered a huge amount of money. My mom said now. They were not leaving Texas.

I admire your decision, you have your ethics on who and how you treat a patient, it was a lot of money to turn down but well done for standing up and saying you would not preform their treatment. My two kids have bad acne scarring especially my son and still has big red sores that are solid coming up and he’s like I’ll just get my face and back lasered when I’m 21, he’s 17 just now, he is totally embarked about his back because it is so bad that even when it gets really warm he refuses to take his t shirt off. I’ve told him when’s he’s 21 and his back and face are clear of the acne we will make an informed decision and look into several Dermaloigts and maybe consider treatment then but not before. Not all money is good money. I'm so glad you turned the offer down. You truly are the best dermatologist around. Ethical, compassionate, funny, and knowledgeable. I'm not surprised the house of Sauds wanted you. The house of Sauds is known for getting what they want. It's in their nature. They are used to getting what they want since birth. If they feel that you didn't give them a flawless face, they might just punish you by jailing you. Lol I watched too many documentaries on how horrible they treat their Philipino maids/slaves, how terrible they treated their Thai farm workers and how they treat anyone who they considered their inferior. They don't just mistreat the Asians, they also keep Estern Europeans girls as sex slaves. There was a documentary, years ago, about miss America, who was offered a job in the Saudi Palace as their interior decorator, when she got there, she said everything was okay for about a week, then hell broke loose when one of the Saudi princes tried to have sex with her, when she turned him down, he got furious and threw her in the dungeon with the other sex slaves they kept. She said there was Asian sex slaves, Estern Europeans girls, Western European girls, pretty much girls of all races, who were promised legitimate jobs but ended up as sex slaves. Miss America was able to escaped with the help of the American media, American politicians who pulled strings to get her out. She was able to contact her family in the states and told them she was being held captives in Saudi Arabia and her family called the media and their local Senator and Congressman. This documentary was in the late 90s. She said girls were being held as sex slaves in the palace. These girls would serviced the princes and all of the princes friends or foreign dignitaries and visitors. The ones that was lucky enough to be released, got sent home with alot of jewels and cash, so they'll keep their mouth shut. If the Saudis could murdered their own dissenting daughters, sons, and family members, they can murder anyone.

Type in KZbin "What happened to Saudi dissenting son's and daughter" and a BBC documentary will pop up about how the royal families kidnapped and kill their own family members that don't agree with them. Or type in "Saudi princesses held captive". Types in "Saudi Thai farm workers" and "Saudi Philippino worker/slaves" All of these documentaries will pop up. As for the miss America story, since the documentary was in the late 90s, you might be able to find that on Amazon or Netflix.

I respect doctors who have integrity. I went to a dermatologist and I was supposed to do a slightly invasive procedure. She noticed I had lesions that resembled psoriasis and as much as we both wanted to have the procedure done, she refused because she said it would cause systemic inflammation. With this honesty, you know that when they recommend a procedure in the future, it means that it is really appropriate based on their objective assessment and not simply because of marketing or money-making.

I love your ethics. I can appreciate why people expect you to "fix" everything and feel entitled when they are paying for it, but it's not always a case of "the customer is always right". Some people don't like hearing the truth.

I think that was a wise decision. We are an American family who lived Saudi Arabia for 8 years and one of my dad's co-workers accidentally hit a woman crossing in the middle of the road with his car (woman survived). He was put in jail for 1 year. I suppose his fate could have been worse but it's still very unpredictable what can happen in a case with a medical procedure gone wrong. Anyways, really enjoy your videos and if we didn't live so far away in San Francisco, I would definitely seek your services.

It’s difficult to say no sometimes. I’ve been shouted at a few times for declining to treat someone for the reasons you list. I’ve also had a bad review for advising a surgical rather than non surgical rhinoplasty, which confused me greatly as I was simply trying to suggest the right thing for the patient!!

Good to see ethical doctors these days who actually cares about the patients. I have waited 2 months to visit a dermatologist and spent 250 AUD but she only spoke to me for less than 3 minutes. So upsetting. Wish I could get a chance to meet you once ❤️

I can speak for my experience for the past 7 years I have worked in the kingdom. Most of them think that everything has money equivalent and they think doctors make miracles to cure in minutes. Telling them that you will do your best cannot satisfy them. Thank God you saved yourself and your staff from disgrace meeting barbaric people. First hand experience of being disrespected , disgusted, and humiliated.

You’re so right about the psychological issues that cause people to find faults on their face. I used to work at a sunglasses store, and found that most people will love a pair of sunglasses on other people but will think they look ugly in them. Unfortunately, people are their own worst critic and once they understand and accept that, they can see themselves differently.
