Little did we know that Darth Vader and the Empire were actually the good guys and the Jedi were the baddies.

Why do we expect a moral compass from Harvey Weinstein's personal assistance? Some people need a rationalization for their past actions.

I do believe this series and the third Disney Rey movie had the same agenda: to assert that evil will triumph over good, justifying narcissism and nihilism. 😢

We know the way the Empire ran the Galaxy and the way the Republic did too, they are night and day, good and evil! Disney can’t retroactively rewrite that. It’s already happened in the Acolytes future.

The best about this show is that everything that became before looks like a masterpiece. Jarjar Bings you are redeemed :D

the force awakens already redeemed jar jar. :p The only good disney star wars is rogue one, clone wars season 7, rebels ( even tho its mediocre ), bad batch (even tho its mediocre most of the time, but good sometimes ), ahsoka ( its just watchable ), and Andor

The balance thing always perplexed me. However, I'll limit myself to criticizing one aspect. A lot of characters have this odd swagger. They want the witch to walk as if she's worshipped. They want people to look at Quimir's head tilt or muscles or dumb helmet and be impressed. I got the impression that you're supposed to think Osha /Mae are being iconic or badass. To me, it shows a reliance on shorthand. If you want someone to be an absolute badass, then you could go the other direction - make them look like they couldn't hurt a fly and then peel back their psychology and show their skill. If you develop it, then you don't need to rely on shortcuts. When they discuss the witches, they said they dressed the leader in purple as the color of royalty. Go the opposite direction. Dress her normally and then develop her enough that her character is elevated. If you are a thing, then you don't need to posture as it. The same applied with the Yoda sequence. Would Yoda get a corner office or be housed in a palace OR would Yoda be just as happy with meditating in a broom closet (because any room would presumably pale compared to the grandeur of his internal life)? Or maybe Yoda would be hanging with the janitors.

To be honest there is no gray morality for the Jedi and Sith there is no balance between the light and the dark because the light side in the balance of the force and the dark side is the corruption. The way I see the Jedi and Sith is the Jedi responsible adults who use the force responsibly while the Sith dark siders are angsty edgy teenagers who are abusing the force for their own selfish desires. Really hate they bring up the yin Yang symbol on the show plus I hate those witches they give me the creeps.

Exactly. The code the Jedi live by is a system set up in an attempt to keep the Jedi humble and their power in check. Having a powerful force user who is selfish, angry, and unhinged is a great way of creating an evil tyrant, which is why the Jedi have the rules they have. "With great power comes great responsibility" and when you have the power, but lack the responsibility, you get "The Acolyte".

Headland can't resist Gaslighting about the "fanbase" rejecting female characters. rosario dawson / Ahsoka - great actor -- great character - great production - adherence to canon - STRONG FEMALE LEAD - POSITIVE views from fanbase. Katee Sackhoff / Bo-Katan Kryze - great actor -- great character - great production - adherence to canon - STRONG FEMALE CHARACTER - POSITIVE views from fanbase. Emily Swallow / The Armorer -- great actor -- great character - great production - adherence to canon - STRONG FEMALE CHARACTER - POSITIVE views from fanbase. Natasha Liu Bordizzo / Sabine Wren - - great actor -- great character - great production - adherence to canon - STRONG FEMALE CHARACTER - POSITIVE views from fanbase. Carrie Fisher / Lea - CARRIED THE ENTIRE FRANCHISE -- smartest lead character in the films. Princess /Senator / GENERAL -- POSITIVE views from fanbase. Natalie Portman / Padmé Amidala Naberrie - - great actor -- great character - great production - adherence to canon - STRONG FEMALE LEAD - POSITIVE views from fanbase. Daisy Ridley / Rey - - great actor -- great character - great production - adherence to canon - STRONG FEMALE LEAD - POSITIVE views from fanbase. Common theme? Well written , cohesive content, combined with great actors, produces characters the fan base embraces as part of the universe we all care about. POORLY WRITTEN, non-cohesive content, combined with average actors with no emotional range, produces content the fans REJECT - and no amount of gaslighting about sexism, mysogany, or anything else can change the level of poor execution within this show.

One of these is not like the others. Rey sucked as a character, very badly written and universally despised as a Mary Sue. There's 15 minute fan films with better character development.

Plus creating more female characters doesn’t guarantee you more female fans or male fans for that matter means nothing if they not written well. Hell George Lucas women characters are great because they didn’t need try too hard they just need to be themselves.

Oh, I think she understands Star Wars just fine, and is raging against it. "Deconstructing" it, as it were. To the detriment of the franchise. All due to the cooperation of her and her Master. Do not speak her name. Even a stray thought may draw that one.

The Acolyte wasn’t good, but I do think people aren’t giving enough credit to the fact that they are trying to tell more nuanced dark-side stories. Dooku’s fall in Tales of the Jedi is some of the best Star Wars we’ve ever seen. They just aren’t quite showing the corruption enough.

Nuanced stories are always good, look at Andor, but Acolytes writing is shit. It is not coherent, internal logic is all over the place and characters are either boring or stupid
@wowsadowsa
@wowsadowsa Ай бұрын
@@HK23783I agree. But we should be applauding Disney for the attempt to show more balanced narratives. This critic saying that “Sith are evil” belies better storytelling that comes from saying the opposite. And in no way did The Acolyte express that “evil is good”.
@HK23783
@HK23783 Ай бұрын
@@wowsadowsa But sith have always been evil, that is kinda the point. Their whole mental attitude has been "I do what I want, to hell with everyone else". Star wars has always pretty binary in that sense. Dooku got closest to the true middle, but he was always well written. The core idea of the Acolyte is actually interesting, but the execution is, again, shit. Everybody flip-flops constantly, main actress is emotionally bland all the through and it so boring

Thoughts: 1. It takes talent to make men uninterested in a show that involves the phrase 'lesbian space witches'. That's a couple gallons of camp away from being a Leather Goddesses of Phobos sequel! 2. The pop song. You know, I remember when Faith of the Heart, the opening theme for Enterprise was super controversial for the Trekkie fandom, but at least it had some soul to it, and it's tone and message beautifully aligned with what that particular series and it's setting in the universe wanted to communicate. I think now, people have both reevaluated Faith of the Heart, and Enterprise. I don't think this trash is going to be remembered long enough to be reevaluated. I'm forgetting what I've heard about it (I didn't subject myself to watching it) even now and I look forward to getting those brain cells back. kzbin.info/www/bejne/larMm5aNqLGXl5o 3. It's wild to see Disney respond to constant critique over how trash their writing's gotten across their various franchise by releasing this slop and removing all doubt. They know. It's intentional. Wash your hands and walk on. 4. Now for something actually enjoyable beyond venting the Disney Wars hate. Hello random reader, and possibly Happy Critic. What's your favorite book and favorite character from the Star Wars EU? The good one. I really enjoy the X-wing Series by Michael Stackpole, and I'm glad the Rogue Squadron movie appears to be dead. For characters... tough pick honestly. Lots of great characters in the EU, but I gotta go Mara Jade... and thank fuck the Mouse hasn't seen fit to destroy the poor girl.
