Do you have a suggestion for a supporting a tub(on the bottom) that is already installed and the dry wall is up...I'm willing to cut the dry wall on both ends of the wall and try and put something under it...I'm looking for the issues that I need to think about once I start and any tips that would help(make it less frustrating)...the tub squeaks when I stand/shower and I know that eventually it will split/break...I want to try and prevent this. Thanks.

Can you run a 4in line through the header?

So would this technique apply to cutting attic joists to put in an attic ladder? I need to go perpendicular to my attic joists with the pull down ladder. Would I reinforce the attic opening this way with a much larger "plumber's box" into 3 cut joists?

Ugh! Not having top access (subfloor and finish floor already in place) is making me dread this. My tiny house is on concrete block piers and I have an approximate 13” opening to work underneath the house. The floor joists are on 24” centers supported by 4x6 beams. But the floor joist is smack dab in the center of where my toilet main drain has to be. This is going to be an awful task that has to be done. Basically, this is a shed conversion so plumbing wasn’t considered in the manufacture.

What size screws and nails were you using? Do you build with nails and reinforce with screws?

Marlon Waite build with nails - faster. Reinforce if needed with GRKs and Timberloks

Thanks for the reply A Concord Carpenter/ToolBoxBuzz! I want to reroute the ductwork from the garage to in between the first and second floor going through the rim joist. I would like to use 8x14" rigid metal duct.

Why are you using screws and not nails? I'm doing a remodel and don't know what kind of screws you used and why.

Tim West, I believe he's asking because screws are not rated for shear strength, therefore when you're reinforcing things such as this, essentially making a beam, you want the two pieces to have shear strength keeping them tight together. Screws are not designed for that, screw to hold something in place while you drive nails in to give it the actual shear strength is the way to go. That being said, I don't know what kind of screws he was using there, they were quite large and not your standard looking wood screw.

Fantastic video, and something every carpenter should know. Plumbers are idiots, they go in and hack to hell everything. You need to understand this so that you can properly transfer the load when the plumber drills a 5" hole in a 2 x 10 joist. #PlumbersAreIdiots
