Good point. I know that many famous electric and even acoustic guitar legends can't read sheet music but I'm mainly referring to professional classical guitarists who are usually skilled in theory.

You've probably already done this but the best thing to do is get an illustration of the basic chords and follow them, strumming them one by one and going back to them again and again and again until you remember. It works, trust me.
