The CD sounds great, I've had it for years. It just proves to me that it all has to do with the original master and how skilled the recording engineer was. The playback medium does not matter as much.

Hi Michael, I have the 45 rpm of this release and I bought the 33 rpm as I received prior to your review. I cancelled my 33 rpm of Louis & Ella as I have the 45 rpm. I agree with you, I enjoy the 45 rpm much more, to me, it is more air and more open sounding, especially on Oscars beautiful piano playing notes on my system. Unfortunately my 33 rpm I received had a damaged sleeve so I returned without a replacement. I did pre-order the Louis & Ella Again, but it’s quite a bit more than any other recent double LPs so I’m sitting on the fence if I keep this release.

I noticed the same with Getz/Gilberto. The George Marino 45rpm issue is slightly better than the recent 33rpm issue that was also cut by George (same mastering session, Chad also had 33rpm parts made).

Also got the new one today, but I do not know the 45rpm. The 33 1/3 sounds really good. Personally the overall sound is slightly shifted to the warm (and save) side. The bass could have little more pressure and there could be more air in the treble section, even if it is excellent. I highly recommend it to everyone. Sound-wise rated with an "excellent" 9 in my opinion.

I ❤️ Oskar Peterson and his trio. So it is very gratifying. To get this music euphoniosuly on 33er vinyl as well. Even if the 45er is even more audiophile. Michael again a very nicely done comparison from you. I would like to call them all my one. :-) ❤️Heike Modest as I am, I take the 45.

I think the 33 RPM feel move live to me. There are specific advantages to 45 rpm, and Marino did cut them hotter for sure, and it shows in the bass. That being said, I prefer the packaging and the flow of the 33 rpm. I don't think it is night an day difference. I think they are close. The question is, is there 45 rpm 2x as good as indicated by the price? the answer is No. For an average system, you won't even hear the difference.
@Sthunderrocker2 жыл бұрын
The new 33 sounds awesome (not doubting the 45), but it's definitely got the sit and chill factor with not jumping up more than once. But if this is the lesser, that 45 must be amazing.
@ronjetten65352 жыл бұрын
Back in the day when the Acoustics Sounds series was introduced there was a significant price difference with the 45 rpm versions especially when often these were available on Amazon for less than $25 (I got my Getz/Gilberto for $21) however with the current prices of $39 and no longer discounts through Amazon you might as well pick up the 45 RPM for $20 more.

True, in the US. For us european, we can get the 33 RPM on Amazon for 42 euros, but getting the 45 RPM from the US (not sold in Europe that I now of), will cost more than 100 euros including shipping and customs...so sad I don't live in the US.

@KS-yy2fu2 жыл бұрын
It is not all about inflation. Of course the most portion is. But I am pretty shure one additional driver is that some or most take this to get more out of it. Example: I found preorder pricrs for mailorder for bluetrain ranging from 42,99 to 49,99 Euro in Germany where I am located. This is a wider range that I ever experienced on acoustic sounds.

If the records have an audible wow and flutter at the intro of "You look good to me" you can be sure of non intense digital remastering. My Verve CD from 1985 and especially the Verve HiRes digital release of 2015 have that. This recording is the best example that analog tape ages and not all digital releases are mastered to death.

I bought the 2x45 a few years ago and agree that it is STUNNING. Wonderful music, and one of the best sounding pieces of vinyl in my collection. I bought the Acoustic Sounds Series 33 version because this is one of my favorite records and I like having a few different pressings of my favorites. (I have hundreds of Kind of Blue) (slight exxageration) I agree with you. The new 33 by Ryan Smith sounds really really good, and is a terrific option for people who can't afford to buy lots of 2x45s or people who don't like flipping the record every 10 minutes. But it doesn't have the same magic that the 2x45 Marino pressing has. That's okay, though. Both versions are available and people can choose the one they want. Cheers, Ron C. Kenosha WI USA

The older VERVE and IMPULSE 45RPM are completely different animals. They both were mastered for vinyl by excellent engineers (GM and KG, respectively) BUT the VERVE used the original master tapes for sure (they even added a picture of the tapes with every release) while for the IMPULSE there is no clarity about their source. I believe Kevin did his best with the source material he received. For instance, he reduced the inner-groove distortion from "out of the cool" and improved on the clarity and imaging of "the black saint and the sinner lady", two very dense and complicated albums, but overall you can hear that those Impulse 45 releases lack a lot of punch and dynamics that is so present in the verve 45. This can be a demonstration of how critical it is to use original master tapes instead of second-generation tapes, regardless of AAA. Overall, I agree with you regarding the verve 45 being better in any aspect than the verve 33 (which are also really good). For the impulse is a bit complicated comparison since, as a said before, I believe Kevin improved some aspects of those albums, but I can only imagine how good of a job he would have done if he used the original masters with the 45 RPM format.
@JeffersonDD2 жыл бұрын
Curious where you’re getting your info about impulse vs. verve?
@rockness87842 жыл бұрын
Mario if I'm not mistaken those new acoustic sound/ impulse are cut all analog from the original masters. Do you have different info?
@marioalbertoceronromero70212 жыл бұрын
@@rockness8784 I don't have a different info, except for a love supreme. It seems that for this particular album they used a copy from England or something like that and there was some good technical justification for not using the original tape. But again, this is info that you get from external sources like the AnalogPlanet instead of Analogue Production themselves, which really sucks. All other 33 RPM releases from the new series seem to come from the master tapes.
@marioalbertoceronromero70212 жыл бұрын
Jefferson Douglas, I've been trying to answer your question but for some reason, the response doesn't show up. Here's my last attempt... For the Verve 45, as I mentioned before, they come with pictures of the master tapes and some cool information about the mastering process by Marino. Moreover, they are noticeably better sounding in every aspect than the also awesome newer 33 RPM. Now regarding the impulse 45, I read a couple of reviews from Fremer for analogPlanet and through their comments sections. Again, there's no clear information about the source for these impulse releases. Fremer even says in the comments section of the review for "out of the cool" that if Kevin used the master tapes for those impulse releases, then he did a bad job because "they sound off". I personally believe they sound great in certain aspects (Kevin took advantage of the 45 RPM format to improve some things in some of the densest and more complicated albums), but at least some of them do have this signature sound in which they lack presence and punch, which if I'm not mistaken, could be an indication that they used second generation tapes.
@JeffersonDD2 жыл бұрын
@@marioalbertoceronromero7021 thanks for the detailed breakdown. FWIW I have all the impulse titles and many of the verve’s and they all sound great. I’ll have to check but I think many of the impulse titles had pics of the tape boxes, but not the same “tape Box Porn” of that Verve insert. FWIW the OP tape sounds absolutely sublime as do most of my Impulse 45s Kinda different animals. Regardless if there’s a better version of “Black Saint and Sinner lady out there, I haven’t heard it. Finally I don’t think the OG Impulse of A Love Supreme used the UK safety tape, only the recent remaster and the UltraTape. Thanks for the info, sorry you tube didn’t cooperate initially

This album appears to have been criticised & received lukewarmly as far as I can tell (All music & Penguin Guide to Jazz) - perhaps largely for the cheesy choice of material. Are the critics wrong and if so why? I’ve got that it’s well recorded, but artistically is it as good as Night Train?
