In Sound on sound, an article talking about this recommended band passing the pink noise, I think at 500hz and 2000khz. The idea being to minimise low freq standing waves and strong mid/hf reflections. Would you agree with this?

Would hearing differences between the ears be an additional reason to do it by ear? Or is that "correction" already taken care of by the brain?

Jesco, how do I phase align a pair of Subs to a pair of monitors? can I set the Monitors up on top of the sub like a tower? using Presonus Temblor 10" sub and Eris E5 XT's

What about if we play this pink noise and measure the spl from one speaker each time with an spl meter ? REW has also an spl meter & we can use a measurement mic. Also, do you believe that in association with the acoustic treatment, in order to correct further the frequency response, we could change the settings from the back side of the monitors ? For example my monitors attenuate the frequency range at about 160HZ that has to do with the reflections from the desk. I compared the two measurements before & after and the peak at around 160hz had been tamed well. Thanks !

Great video as usual Jesco, thanks! Just of curiosity, is there any reason you use pink noise over white noise for the calibration?

Love your content, I've learned a ton. I'd like to request a video on rear-port vs front-port studio monitors. I'm currently making EDM in an untreated bedroom with a pair of Yamaha HS8's. In my opinion the lower frequencies have never been punchy. I know some of that is because my room is untreated (I'm currently building panels), but why does my Sonos One speaker sound so much punchier in the same room than my Yamahas? Is it possible that the fact that the HS8's are rear ported is making the issue worse? Would I be better off with a front ported monitor like JBL 308 or Kali IN-8? For additional info, I have my speakers on isoacoustics stands (ISO-200) on my desk. There isn't space in my current room for speaker stands. The room is roughly 11ft x 13ft x 8ft (L x W x H). My description above was also true when I lived in a larger bedroom of like 13 x 15 x 8ft. So I don't think it's a room anomaly. And again, my Sonos One speaker sounds way better and the low end is much tighter, even though it doesn't extend as low. When I roll off the low frequences with EQ so the HS8's only extend roughly the same as the Sonos, it's still not nearly as punchy. I understand the goal of a studio monitor is to be honest, not necessarily to sound good, but it seems like a lack of punchy-ness would imply an inability to reproduce low end content accurately.

i have HS8s too in a small 9 mts2 room, and right now I'm comparing them in my studio to focals cms 65, cms 50, yamaha hs5, presonus eris 7xt, and the yamaha hs8 are my favorites, but they have a lot of sub bass so i need to place near to my ears, so the direct sound comes first than room reflections, when the hs8 are far the sound its diffuse, undefined and the bass mask the other frecuencies, but when HS8 are near it shines with punch, detail and balance, so try to place them that way... the smaller the speaker the puncher because de drivers works easy without the need to produce bass, so its a good idea to get a second pair 5 inch to reference.

So my room has a closet (the under side of some stairs which I use as a mic locker) on the back wall with no door. I can hear the slight difference between the reflections on the back wall and the side with the closet opening. Would it be better to have that be the front wall a.e. behind the speakers, or to leave it as it is with the speakers pointing towards it(back wall)?

I listen to lows shifting to the left depending on the frequency and highs to the right as they go up... So frustrating
Wait for it 😂
