My youngest son and I have to do the same with our rake, it's an old John Deere v-rake, Ethan had the fun side of that job! Did good on the hay for how much rain you got. We have trouble getting parts for our rake, but it's paid for and that's the best kind. Some cute calves there, we do the same for our beef calves, only tube them if necessary. Enjoyed watching, thanks and I hope you all have a good week!

Your hay rake is one of the largest that I have seen. I can remember back in the late 60's, when we went from a 4-bar rake (with steel wheels), to a 5-wheel Farmhand rake. It was a pleasure. You could rake so much faster, and it was sooooo quiet. I know what you're saying about not being an electronics guru. I am not one either. But it does amaze me, that if I have a problem with my home computer, sometimes all you have to do, is turn the computer off, and then start it back up to let it reboot itself, and voila`, it fixes itself.

Our farm sat on more water being on a hill than any other property around us. Thus we were hit my lightning six to a dozen times a year. And the old adage lightning never strikes twice did in fact hit the same tree the very next year. Split is down the middle which finally killed it.

@Adam_Poirier3 ай бұрын
When I was a sophomore in high school we were milking cows one evening in July. We had a bad thunderstorm come through and lightning actually hit the top of the silo. We had lightning arrestors on everything, and it actually burnt the wire off of the ground rod at the corner of the barn. It was the loudest thing I have ever heard, and all I could see was blue for a couple of seconds. After I rubbed my eyes and looked behind me, I saw roughly 20 out of the 55 cows in the barn were laying down awkwardly.. It was a tie-stall and we had trainers to make sure the cows would back up so the manure would be in the gutter. It seemed like a handful of the cows were shocked and actually knocked down from that. They were all OK and eventually got back up.. it took one girl a couple days to get back up tho, I thought for sure she was down for good. That really scared the crap out of me I remember that like it was yesterday, and the sliding door on top of the silo still has a big stain mark and is crinkled up where the lightning hit. We had to replace every fence charger on the farm, the radio, and the contactor on the silo unloader. The fence charger that ran the cow trainers actually landed on the ground smoldering. Sounds like a far-fetched story I know but honest to God that's what happened. Would've really been something to have that on video.. Awesome video Ronda, glad to see you guys had a decent number of bales. Without fail every Sunday I watch your video when it comes out and I'm usually on a tractor or in the shop someplace far away from lunch, and usually by the time I'm done with your video I'm starving after listening to you talk about delicious food haha

We always raised our twin female calves from our male/female births. They supplied our families with our beef. We fatten them by running them with the top group of milk cows (more HMSC in the ration). The free stalls stayed a lot cleaner then if we had to run a steer. 👨🏻🦳 🐄🐄 🚜

In the UK we have the same wheels on Vicon Lely Acrobat (3 point linkage mounted with 4 wheels) I think these date from the 1950s or 60s . Almost every farm in northern england would have one in the past and their are still plenty in use in 2024 and I bought one for spares 3 months ago and it will keep our 60+ machine going a bit longer. We still have landlines in the UK but the government is shutting the system down in a few years despite many areas having poor or non existent mobile (cell phone) coverage. Thanks for the excellent videos.

With twins, if there is a pair, the heifer will not be fertile. It's a good thing the lightning struck a tree and not a building or an energy line. I have a V rake with 2x7 wheels. I made it by connecting 2 rakes because that's what we made. The tines in our rakes are double and one person can replace them, but they are probably made of thinner wire like yours.

One thing I like about your videos. I was not a farmer but grew up around farms and you really explain what's going on. I look around and see so many who have no idea about farm life. I enjoy hearing all of you explain in everyday terms what's going on. At first I thought why do you do that, then I realized your audience reaches those who maybe have no idea of farmers lives. I'm fortunate, I have helped bale and stack on a wagon, I worked for a while on a dairy farm, many haven't done that. Thank you and God's blessing on you all.

Hi Ronda! If you can, follow up on the tree and the skunk bale. With small bales, we'd just toss that one and go on. Do you lose the whole bale or just a few slabs? Most trees hit by lightning die farther down the road --I'd expect you'd have to cut it down to not have the danger of it hitting something else later in a storm. Too bad it's Cottonwood, not that good for wood heat...And... I had to come back to compliment Kevin on the intro. Excellent!
