Across The Alps 700km GR5, 55, 52 Part 3 of 3 The Mercantour

This 700km backpacking and camping hike takes me from Lac Leman to the Mediterranean, past the Mont Blanc massif, across the Vanoise, Queyras and Mercantour mountain ranges. It was postponed for two years running due to the Covid pandemic. When a severe heatwave struck Europe on the third year I wavered in my decision to go, but I did go, it WAS hot and this is the last of three videos covering the journey.
This final part leaves Larche on the GR5 towards St Dalmas where the GR52 takes me across the rugged Mercantour massif to arrive at Menton on the shores of the Mediterranean.

Bonjour Alan, 🙂 Une nouvelle fois, c'est un réel plaisir de te suivre sur le chemin du GR5 - GR52 au travers de tes vidéos. Mischa a bifurqué à Saint-Dalmas de Valdeblore pour Nice ? J'ai eu un orage en passant la Baisse de Basto : chute drastique des températures, vent, pluie ... Une piqûre de rappel pour se souvenir que, même l'été, la montagne est dangereuse ! 🤥 Au Colla Bassa, j'ai discuté avec le berger qui apparaît sur ta vidéo. Il m'a dit que quelques jours plus tôt, il avait vu un loup passer au milieu de son troupeau, en pleine journée, sans lui prêter la moindre attention... Il faut croire que le garde-manger local est bien fourni en animaux sauvages ! Du coup, la nuit, au bivouac, j'ai bien dormi, mais d'un œil seulement ! 🐺 Encore merci pour ta vidéo, et surtout pour ta présence lors des 10 jours de marche que nous avons partagé ensemble . A reminder shot to remember that, even in summer, mountains are dangerous! 🤥 At Colla Bassa, I spoke with the shepherd who appears on your video. He told me that a few days earlier, he had seen a wolf pass right through his herd, in the middle of the day, without paying him the slightest attention... You have to believe that the local pantry is well stocked with wild animals ! So, at night, at the bivouac, I slept well, but only with one eye! 🐺 Thank you again for your video, and above all for your presence during the 10 hiking days we shared together. Fantastic series Alan. Congratulations on completing the crossing. Not easy feat, I bet, with that heat! Which section would you recommend? Vanoise, Queyras, Mercantour? Any other?

Thank you 😊. If I was going to recommend one section only it would be the Vanoise for its sheer grandeur, but the continuation to St Dalmas is interesting. TBH it's all pretty good one way or another.
