Walked the entire OD F back in the late 70’s from Chepstow northwards and enjoyed it very much . As a history enthusiast this was the ideal walk when during the journey you on the original path next to the dyke. It also has a ‘complete - ness ‘ due to a definite start and end. Highly recommend

Hi, thanks. I started 19 July, but suspect you could start from 1st July. Apparently you can get snow any time, but Jul/Aug are safest bet. It depends also on what kind of Winter they've had, so good to check. There was fresh snow over 2000m at Puigmal as I reached Llanca. Enjoy the hike and prepare for hot or cold.

I don't think so, the dyneema is fibrous strands between thin 'plastic' sheet. It's strength is when under tension due to the fine fibres, not from the sheet which holds them together.

Hi, thank you. It's a tough one, not a simple answer. The GR10 because it came first, but not such good weather and more mist. However, there was more wildlife and easy going access for camping etc. There are restrictions on wild camping and even swimming in some lakes and below 2000m in the Nat parks in Spain. The campsites in France are more civilized, less crowded and so is the trail for the most part. First and final sections of GR11 less interesting than GR10 IMO. Both really worth doing. Maybe a mix of the two? I believe the HRP accesses both sides in places? Enjoy.

In 2009, 2010, 2011 we did large parts of the GR10, with the help of a luggage transfer company as we were then in our sixties and my wife has problems to carry a backpack. Cols like Hourquette d'Arre and Madamète were indeed easier than the ones you had to climb on the Spanish side. Although we did not connect our footsteps from Atlantic to Mediterrean, it was a great experience, especially the lonely and beautiful stages through Ariège. @@MinackerMovies

Hi Morgs, thanks. I'm working on the next video now. Not sure about the HRP, perhaps your younger knees will be better suited than mine, they took a bit of a bashing on the GR11 scree, boulderfields and steep descents. The tent was good, lots of space and easy to pitch once used to it. If there are negatives, I didn't like the sil-nylon groundsheet, too slippy, especially if you can't pitch on flat ground. That and the large footprint means you have to be more fussy about where to pitch. Happy planning for your HRP! I look forward to seeing the videos.

It’s a bummer to lose your hat on a walk. I thought I’d lost one on the South Downs Way once. Searched everywhere, including the pub next day only to find I’d left it hanging behind the shower door. Dyneema is good material for walls, but awful material for floors. Not only does it have poor puncture resistance, it has even worse abrasion resistance. It always amuses me to see people say things like "I have a Dyneema tent. I don't need a ground sheet because Dyneema is stronger than nylon or polyester!" while being the very people who need them the most. Or they say "My tent is Dyneema. I don't need a ground sheet because Dyneema is waterproof!", never minding the primary function of a ground sheet is not moisture resistance. You CAN get a strong Dyneema floor, but the weight, bulk and cost of it just to be comparable with a woven material makes it pointless.
@MinackerMovies
@MinackerMovies 7 ай бұрын
To be honest, I prefer Dyneema to the usual silnylon for the tent floor itself because the silicon stuff is too slippy. Tyvek is good protection under any material.

That was a very good test, loved it! In the past I've favored Tyvek but didn't like the bulk. I then bought the matching groundsheet for my tent because it also has corner straps to stake out together with a sheet of polycrco for redundancy. You make a good point that the tent manufacturers ground sheets aren't necessarily puncture proof, so the polycryco redundancy will help. But Tyvek is the clear winner here.
