My newest oil painting features the colorful glow of the Northern lights dancing over a winter landscape. A warm glow emerges from the cabin below as the light reflect quietly off the warm spring fed creek.

This is stunning! Was it all done in oil up to the finished product? After you initially did acrylic? DO U RECOMMEND OIL OR ACRYLIC for beginners? I’ve always loved oil but never gave it a go. Always used acrylic since it was cheaper, but always drawn to oil and wanna try! ESP the water soluble ones!

I can't thank you enough for how you've helped me change my life. I'm a recovering alcoholic and could never draw a circle much less paint something. I needed something constructive and self fulfilling in life. I started watching Bob Ross just for something to do and then found your work. I've watched all your videos and many multiple times. I learned so much from you and decided to try this. I just finished my second attempt at painting and you wouldn't believe how it turned out. I wish i could attach it to show you just how much you help people. It's beautiful. You've given me a new Avenue in life that's healthy, motivating and a huge confidence builder for a lost man. I don't know why you do these videos but you may not know the enormous impact you can have on someone's life. Thank you very much.

After the near-global display of auroras last night, I went in search of tutorials to paint what I saw. It’s clear from this piece that you’re one of the few artists who have actually seen the lights yourself. Watching your brushstrokes evokes the same sense of awe as seeing the ripples and pillars shifting in the sky.

The aurora borealis is the absolute coolest thing EVER!! I’m currently in the middle of making a picture of the North Pole before Santa makes his big trip, and because he lives in the Arctic, I thought I’d throw the aurora borealis in the background.

Thanks Chuck, this is beautiful. I was fortunate enough to see the Northern lights as a child living in Michigan. What an awe inspiring sight! Thank you for putting my mind at ease thinking I must create a perfect scene in just one layer! I paint with acrylics and it has always been frustrating for me as well when I am unable to blend everything out more, and with the fast drying time of acrylics. I have never used oil paint but have more recently been considering giving them a try. I purchased the two Princeton blending brushes you previously recommended and I absolutely love them!! Thank you for sharing your beautiful work and tips! You inspire us all!
