I do my nails at home & am not pro trained. I have recently been having a problem with lifting. I came across this video, purchased the tools used, upgraded my nail brush & voila my set has greatly improved. I thank you for these videos they helped me. Suggestion: Maybe you can do a video on the importance of the nail brush & compare some (i.e. Show brushes that come with sets versus kolinski/red sable brushes & there thicknesses.

Holy crap! I have to say that your entire channel has been an eye opener and I’ve been subscribe for 2 years now I think. I live in Ottawa, Ontario and I can tell you that my nails are NEVER prepped this way. I’m usually really scared because techs ALWAYS use a drill with a rough bit to prep my nails. They’re basically thinning my natural nails to oblivion so I’m always scared I’ll get burned. And they do the same thing when taking acrylics off and then tell me I can’t get new acrylics until my nails heal and grow out because it’s too damaged from the filing with the drill...why? Because they always want to start with drilling. They use the drill FOR EVERYTHING. I don’t know if I can take it anymore lol

all of this info is so great. i have never had my nails done. i have everything to do the acrylics but haven't tried it yet. i am more into the actual art on the nails right now. i have painted nails on a few friends and family and it lasts really well on them. mine on the other hand starts chipping off in a few days time. so i am hoping that buffing my nails 1st will do the trick. thanks to all who are sharing info. it helps more than you could know.

For someone starting out with acrylic (I'm an esthetician and was only taught with gel because of where I live we don't instruct acrylic anymore) what would you suggest are the best brushes/methods to getting a perfect acrylic when you already know nail techniques and gel application, thank you so much if you get back to me!
@NailCareerEducation
@NailCareerEducation 9 жыл бұрын
Hi, great question! But the answer is very indepth. Gel is very very different in application. Even thought chemically these products are both made from Acrylic- they perform very differently. Acrylic is harder to work with because it dries from the second you gather the product in your brush. I can't go into the process here - learning the RIGHT technique and mastering it takes the right educator and lots and lots of experience. To get started, you need and Oval #8 sable or type brush. For technique if you can check back here in about 5 days my new video on Liquid to Powder Ration is coming!! It's a must watch for the first step to Acrylic! Thank you for watching 😀

hello! I found this video very informative, but I do have one question: Is the buffing of the nail even _neccesary?_ I only ask because I have _always_ heard that acrylics, gel, dip systems don't ruin nails, bad nail techs do with the poor prep or over aggressive prep. You mentioned that with the better primers out there, you could _almost_ skip the buffing. I ask because I heard that buffing thins out the nail over time, especially if you get new sets and refills.

Regarding sanitary gel application, is it ok or not to "double dip" into the gel--whether it's builder, cover, top coats, polish, what have you--from person to person? Does the same apply to gels as the acrylic dip method where you coat the nail using a separate container? Does a small amount have to be separated into a different container for each client? Why or why not? Thank you kindly for your time.

So you would do this before applying tips also? And is there a time period for applying the acrylic or gel from the one you prep? I've heard people say you need to do one nail at a time and apply the acrylic while the nail is still wet from the primer?

Hey Suzie, I had a question. I stopped biting my nails after years of nail biting. I've used nail Polish and most recently invested in the gel polish to increase the strength of my natural nail. I've had so many issues with my nails peeling at the edge of the nail and even in the middle of my nail as well as breaking off. Do you have any recommendations on how to stop my nails from peeling and breaking?
@NailCareerEducation
@NailCareerEducation 8 жыл бұрын
+April Thomas Hi April - it's tough for nail bitters - I feel for you - gel polish is a good choice - if you need stronger I'd recommend Acrylic- just make sure when your getting gel done they are removing correctly and not weakening your nail:)

I prefer Acrylic over Gel- it's a stronger product overall- BUT.... In my opinion Gel is easier to apply and learn, Acrylic takes longer to learn and to perfect - therefore it can be hard to find a good acrylic artist- so ask around and don't focus on the product as much as look for a great nail tech in your area - also personality is important.

Do these steps apply to fillings as well? I'm still in high school and it's just to costly to have my nails done professionally but I don't want to take off my acrylics because I'm a stress biter, it's really bad as I won't know I'm doing it till their throbbing in pain and inflamed, sometimes bleeding. 😭 I've found I won't bite them unless they are a certain length and aren't too grown out, once the corners start lifting I'll bite them till they crack (I know! I've done bad! 😫). If it doesn't take too much of your time what are some good tips for those who aren't pros? Oh and also, thank you for teaching me so much, your videos are lovely, fun to watch and easy to learn from, you are such an inspiration to so many, and I couldn't see myself learning from any other videos except yours. ☺️

Do you have to use the dehydrator? Just wondering as the nail tech I used to go to never did this step and I never had issues with any lifting. My nails used to stay on for ages -until I had them removed due to the growth making them look too silly lol! Stayed on even with my busy manual lifestyle I've bought my own kit now to teach myself as I absolutely love nail art..... but in my usual silly fashion, I forgot to buy the dehydrator :-( :-( now I'm worried! Is it an absolute must to buy? As some people say this is only for people with oily nails/skin. By the way, love the videos, you are a great teacher ^_^ you seem like such a kind person!

@IamMissPronounced

Monica Dillard well it could be possible that they just want you to come in sooner, but if customers find their nails aren't lasting as long, I don't think most of them would go back to that salon, right?

The first and only time I had acrylics done on my nails (about four years ago), the primer part of the application stung something awful and a lot of it was used. I was in actual pain even as I left the salon but I thought this was just part of the process. Now I know the nail tech probably used an acid-based primer. She had also filed way too deep into the nail bed and I had horrible half-moons gouged out of my nails I could see as they started to grow out. Unfortunately my nails have never gone back to their original healthy condition - I had the nails professionally removed a few days after getting them done at a different place and the tech was horrified at what had been done. I have to say thank you for your informative videos. I'm not a tech at all,but I find the process fascinating and you have a great, engaging personality.
@NailCareerEducation

Oh my- im sorry you had to experience that- not fun. Your natural nails will grow our completely in about 3-6 months - so the damage will eventually grow out. This sadly is what can happen when a tech doesn't have the correct knowledge or intuitive feelings about people. When your holding the hand of a client (if you paying attention - as a tech) you can feel when a client is experiencing discomfort or pain- the client will tense either slightly (or very noticeable) or pull away. Hello!!! It's hurting! Sensing the clients feeling is as much apart of this job as is application of the nails! But.... Sadly, sometimes it's overlooked!! Thank you for your comments. Hope your nails feel better soon😊

***** OOOH that must be soo frustrating - are they breaking off or falling right off - that's a big dif. When they come off does it leave ANY product on the natural nail? Let's get to the bottom of it.....

Hey there I have a question about applying acrylics to bitten nails. Ive had this problem ever since my teeth grew out. I have stopped biting my bails but once it reaches a certain length they just break off because my nails are very weak. I thought of applying acrylics so that my natural nail can grow out while i have them on. Is it a good idea or will my nails get even weaker? I don't want to wear acrylics after they grow our so is it possible? All i want is that my nails grow out then remove it and have natural long nails. I would be oh so thankful to have an answer from you because i've asked locals and i don't really trust them :)

Tekla Gamtsemlidze Hi - you really have asked a great question - the reason your nails are not gaining any lenght, is probably two reasons - you bite when they grow a free edge and/or they are weak. When Acrylic is sitting on Natural Nails they become alittle soft - it's the air that makes them harder - if you take a bandaid off your skin (after it has been on there for awhile) you'll notice the skin can be wrinkly or softer - the natural nail is like that after having acrylic on. So if you do put acrylics on to grow your nails out then remove, the natural nail will be so soft the probably won't remain long for too long - HOWEVER, having acrylic on, it may break the habit of biting - That could be awesome! OR keep the Acrylic - they are gorgeous!!

Soooo 👀 Are primer and bond the same things??? I am S O confused
@edeniashappiness0230

No, not entirely; although they do some of the same things they are different Primer goes on before the bond; it basically primes the nailbed and dehydrates it so the nail bed is a bit more easy to work with A bond is used to help the product (whether it be gel or acrylic) to adhere to the nailbed; if you used just primer my guess would be it would be too dehydrated to work with. Correct me if im wrong though.

I have followed this with my own gel nails and my gel lasts a super long time with no lifting or chipping but my problem is it's TOO stuck on my nail! It is impossible to take my gels off. Can you provide tips on the best way to remove gel nails especially when crafting an extension using gels and not tips? Acetone just won't lift it unless I file until I almost see my nail and even then it takes an hour to soak it off :(

sneakymod most builder gels are meant to be filed off. I think there are some that can be soaked, but they usually refer it on the pot.

Hi i hav question I am noticing alot of ppl are scared to wear acrylic because It weakings the nail but they still want length do you do tips with out acrylic and will it look the same as if you are wearing acrylic nails.

Kristin Bullard I don't think so because are an already pre formed plactic Tip - I like to form the Acrylic with a form because it is specifically designed to the clients finger - a much more natural look. :) Oh Acrylic actually doesn't weaken them - it's like when you put a bandaid on your skin, you know how it becomes alittle softer - same premise with acrylic OR GEL on the Nails - once they are removed the nail will harden right back up.
