Thankyou! I love videos like yours that open up how fun easy and inexpensive art and creativity can be.

Thank you so much. Yes, I agree. Some people think there's some big secret to being an artist and there really isn't. I've worked a lot with kids and they're just so open to trying new techniques and creating without worrying about the results. I use this technique now in my paintings because I love the patterns in the paint you get from printing. Thanks for watching!

Really enjoyed printing at Art school not so easy at home without the printing press, but this video has inspired me to try again.

I'm so glad you found this inspiring. I love monoprinting and it all starting by using this method with kids. You can watch a couple other videos using the same technique. I also have 2 videos where I use it in my paintings. I love the look when it's mixed in with other techniques. Thank you so much! I wasn't quite ready to invest in a gel plate, but this way I can try monoprinting with palette paper and cardboard, which I already have.
@LindaCelestian3 жыл бұрын
Yeah, I still haven't invested in a gel plate either. I actually really like the markings I get from this technique. And I've successfully instructed groups in this technique and they didn't have to purchase a gel plate either! Thank you so much for watching and commenting!

If I am working on an abstract acrylic painting, could I just flip the palette-paper-covered cardboard upside down, and then smooth it onto the surface of my painting?
@LindaCelestian3 жыл бұрын
Yes, absolutely. I use this technique in my paintings all the time. You can see an example in this video at 7:45 kzbin.info/www/bejne/mpK0aWR9r6iXebM and here at 14:10 kzbin.info/www/bejne/aV7Jo6Jumrd6l9k and using large paper here at 5:50 kzbin.info/www/bejne/ap69lKaDjbOWm6c Let me know if you have any other questions. Hi Linda - Thanks for sharing your technique .....I can't help but comment on the "paint-pick-up" factor. I 'm thinking you could dampen the paper in advance and blot and put in a plastic bag ready for use. The other consideration might be to use as lightweight a paper as you can afford or obtain, for example, use rice paper (Hosho paper) these should pick up the paint more effectively.
@LindaCelestian5 жыл бұрын
I have dampened the paper before but with drawing paper it leaves the paper rippled even after it's dried, but would work fine with a heavy watercolor paper. Rice paper would work great. Thanks for watching, I appreciate your suggestions.

Wax paper would work it just might not hold up as good. Tin foil works well though. Thanks for watching!

ugh, my tree came out looking like a blop of black ink. I pressed and it smeared all over. Pressing too hard? Too much paint?
@LindaCelestian3 жыл бұрын
Hi Annie, That sounds like you have too much paint. Maybe the paint is too thick so you're getting a lot down when you use a brush. Thin the paint a bit. It does take a little trial and error, but if the paint is squishing and filling in your lines then you have too much paint. Give it another try. Thanks for watching! Linda

Vera nice! May i ask what ist the diference betwen to Paint directly and to Print on paper??? Thanks!
@LindaCelestian5 жыл бұрын
Tom G One difference is that you can wipe out areas you don’t like before you print. The main reason I like to print is for the interesting markings you get with printing. It looks like tree bark in these prints and I like the way the paint piles up on the edges in the subtractive method. Try it and tell me how you like it.

Hello, what paper you utilise for you monoprinting please thanks you I am french, jocelyne.
@LindaCelestian5 жыл бұрын
Hi Jocelyne, Thanks so much for watching! I am using 80 lb drawing paper, the colored paper I created myself with watered down acrylic paint and a sponge brush. I like to create my own painted papers so I can get subtle colors and textures. I can make a video of that process if you like.

Well, good intension. The video had been fine, had you not ruind it with your stressfull timelapse chapters. Who will like to be in compagny with a stressed out person? I will never recommend my students tutorials that are not running in a peaceful speed -like the actual process in the printshop. Timelapse is like an accident in a tutorial.

Wouldn't it be easier and quicker to just paint the image directly onto the paper? I don't see the point of this method.
@LindaCelestian4 жыл бұрын
When you use the additive printing technique you get completely different image than just painting it on the paper, and different markings depending on how much paint you use. For instance if there is a lot of paint you get this river like marking from the paint squishing and a different marking where it there is less paint. I think I need to make a video to show you what I mean. For the subtractive method you can wipe out areas you don't like and do it over until you get the image you like. I use this technique to teach children how to draw a star or a box. Mostly I love the markings and have started to use the technique in my paintings. I'll post a video soon showing that. Thanks for watching!

Pause at 8:02 to see the markings I'm talking about. It actually looks like tree bark!
