Fluid Art , Acrylic pouring
This artform is addictive and we all know it. You also see it and love it. Small step to give it a try then. Quickly we find out it's not that easy... We reads blogs and groups and see videos. Here are lots of great tutorials and all. And then we start. But don't understand WHY things happen or what is affecting the Painting wondering what's going on?I made a 10 minutes video to cover WHY and I would like to share some inside as it comes back to questions I see every day. I think it turned out well covering paint, mixing ratios, Pouring medium, cleaning and Varnish from WHAT TO KNOW ABOUT ITS BACKGROUND (how to I cover in other videos).
So for all newbies and people who are curious of why things do what they do in this artform I hope you enjoy it.

Over the artist:
Hi. My name is Santana Hagedorn ans artist for acrylic paint pouring and fluid art from the Netherlands. This form of abstract and modern decorative painting is done with Acrylics brought to the right consistency with various pouring mediums, oils and additives. By moving the paint layers, playing with different tools or adding heat I create different effects. Very messy and very fun. The Paintings can be don't know canvas, MDF frames, tiles or other flat surfaces. Can also be used to make daily items and gifts unique f.ex. little boxes or ornaments.
If you like my art and would like to purchase or custom order feel free to contact me via comment, email, Facebook or Instagram

I love your playlist for beginners: finally someone who is clearly explaining what are the different pouring methods and pros and cons for each, how to get the right consistency to make cells and how it works, why it is important to clean the paint... And not just starting at the flip cup stage... Thank you, thank you, thank you! Have a wonderful day and please continue :)

Nice to have someone explain things before jumping in. I have experienced the "oh no....I bought the wrong stuff" feeling with resin. Another expensive hobby. Watching your video with explanations is precisely what is needed by someone like me.....who wants to play.....but can't afford to flush money or buy stuff that will not accomplish what I want to achieve! Thank you and I have subscribed and saved your informative videos.

I've just got into acrylic pouring and watched a lot of videos where they go on about how you must have the right consistency, but you are the only one so far to properly explain what that consistency should look like! Art and science really do go hand in hand, and it really helps so much to understand the science behind this, so thank you very much! xo

Thank you so much! I first saw this art form only about 2 months ago, and have yet to do my first “real” pour, mainly because I’ve been trying to educate myself as much as possible, finding out why paints do what they do. I see that most people seem to approach from an artistic point of view, where I approach more from a scientific or informational point of view, using science to create art (if that makes any sense). Your method of explanation is wonderful. I’m adding you to my “favorites” list, and have subscribed to your channel.

This is really quite good! I stumbled on your Floetrol video yesterday while searching for info about cell activation using US Floetrol and Owatrol Easy Flow (EU Floetrol) - Australian Floetrol is way out of my price range! Now, I'm watching your basics playlist. Over the last 2 months, I've watched hundreds of acrylic pouring tutorials (have not poured yet ☹︎); so, when I say your video is really quite good, I have a broad base for comparison! As an absolute egghead, I feel the need to be educated before starting an endeavor to better understand the various techniques (how), technical principles (why), and materials and supplies needed (what). So many people use so many recipes that work well for them, but don't really know why they work. Understanding the mechanical and chemical principles of how paints interact and flows to achieve desired results helps me simplify the process and make better choices of mediums and additives. Ultimately, experimentation is key, but why not start from a broader knowledge base? Incidentally, here's an article about watering down Golden acrylic paints: justpaint.org/how-much-water-can-you-safely-add-to-acrylic-paint/ Thank you for your efforts in making these videos! I look forward the rest of this playlist and to start actually pouring!

I bought a ‘builders’ stabilizing solution. (That’s how it is spelt??) I did a lot of chemistry at school many moons ago lol. So l knew that all these expensive mediums you put into paint to stretch the bonds needed support. But you confirmed all this. I have had difficulty with cell sizes and amounts. Due to my fluidity. Slowly though l guess. I see a lot of “painters” that paint fine art did this type of artwork. And see it as easy and not worthy of credit but l disagree. There’s a lot more to it than they think they believe. Sorry for the rant. I also paint abstract but never true life. Not so good to show any of that lol.

I think I'm one of those people that it's been way too much money. But the most of my money was spent on paint variance and my torch. It was like 26 American dollars. The canvases for on sale a lot of the paint was on sale except for your specialty paints. I always have my 50% off coupon for Michaels, or I can pick up extra paint if needed. Thank you for another great video teaching me how and why the chemicals react to each other the way they do in the glue all which is what I use, as well as the paints are the floetrol if you use that. I'm not too familiar yet with all of the paint extenders. Hopefully I will gain enough knowledge should be able to put my $200 worth have money to go juice. LOL I had to get a lot of pain because I am not very good at mixing colors. I used to be and it probably wouldn't take me long to get the hand of it again and I do remember my color wheel from high school, which is half the battle. Working with complimentary colors triadic colors whatever you choose they have to go together or they will not produce anything but mud in those areas were the colors come in contact with each other. So far the three in one liquid drops which is very hard to control. I might need to find another container with a better dropper or a better at small spray bottle. Again thanks for the video I look forward to more of the learning part and why we do what we do. And let's keep doing it. Take care and God bless Deb

A very sensible straight forward explanation, there is one point that you did not cover which is the natural density of paints. Some paint pigments are heavier than others and this will also effect the making of cells. A little complicated but worth looking into. Thanks.

True. Could talk about that. But I think for most of the people starting and to really understand the basics of what happens when they do things it's more a second level knowledge. But I'll definitely think of a FAQ.

Thank you for all of the information, just wondering is floetrol archival?
@PouringArtExperience
@PouringArtExperience 6 жыл бұрын
Floetrol will not change overtime. Any changes that do occur will be due to the natural aging of the paint.

One request.... I have been wondering if it's necessary to treat the canvas in some way even before starting with the base colour. In this video I came to know that it's important to treat the canvas with gesso or primer. So if you could PLEASE make a video on how to apply gesso. My request might be very basic to you, but that's because I've never ever tried this kind of painting.

No normally your canvas is pre-gessoed. Also a base is covering it perfectly fine. Normally you don't need any gesso. Only for like wood but you can also paint it with normal acrylic. Its just for the purpose of not soaking in to much paint / liquid. Thats all it is. But if you want to use it just paint it on with a brush

Great video, thank you! I was just wondering how long sould we wait till we clean the canvas before varnishing? Does it depend on the paint or the medium we used or is there a recommended time to wait?

I was given paints, canvases and Liquitex Gloss Gel for Christmas so I can begin to play with acrylic pouring. Is this Liquitex Gloss Gel the correct medium for acrylic pouring? I am excited to get started but not sure if I have the right medium. Your help will be most appreciated. Thank you, Barbara, USA

I don't think you can use a gel. :-(

Would heat applied to the back of the canvas, heating the acrylic from the bottom help the cell formation process? Maybe by having the canvas on a raised mount so the heat tool could be used. Thoughts?

I am just learning pouring, but have achieved a couple successful ones. Your videos have been a great help! But, you say no more than 30% water or medium. My favorite ones are more like 95% medium and some fluid acrylic ink. What do you think about this procedure?
@PouringArtExperience
@PouringArtExperience 6 жыл бұрын
+linda reinhold I have never worked with inks and Pouring medium. I know ink or Pouring medium with Acrylic. So can't really comment. I'm happy you liked the video and that you found it helpful! Thanks for watching

so when you say archival, do you mean it will not last as long as a dedicated pouring medium?

Hi,.I'm from India and I so SO wish to make one of these paintings. But I'm kind of scared to even start. It's been almost an year that I have been watching and learning this form art... online ofcourse. I have even taken down notes from your video. Soon I'll try one and I hope that it's even ok enough so that I can share it with you and get your genuine comments on it. .

+DL Sten thank you. can't tell where it comes from. It also comes and goes. From just a tiny bit to yeah .. more. Another benefit of this artform that you don't need a steady hand. Thanks for watching

Sounds like ET. Mine is the same way, can go for a while with nothing or only slight tremors, then will have difficulty performing some tasks because it becomes... more. I take some medicine (Inderal) that helps with it. But, like you said, at least this type of art doesn't require a steady hand (although I have had some paint end up in other places because of a sudden tremor).THANKS again!

Hi I love your work and appreciate you doing videos to help all learn this process. But I do want to say that I am pretty sure that fluid art has been around since the 90s if not earlier it's just an art form that is more sporadic and comes in big and then Fades out and various techniques. But please continue I know that all artist can continue with this process and make it a standout technique.
@PouringArtExperience

+Fran Simontacchi I absolutely agree. Lots of things have been around and then reinvented or given a modern touch at a different time. I just see it becoming more and more popular at this point. And I like to do it ;-) Thanks for watching and commenting
