Hullo Lindsay, I have used varnish to coat a lot of paintings and furniture and my Uncle has a coffee table. I made it when I was in high school shop class and it looks as good today as when I made it in 1977! His wife loved peonies and I panted them on top of the table and it has lasted all this time! I know oil paint products are trickier than most any other medium, I used acrylic paints and a UV Varathene to seal it up and it just works! Your donuts are so fun and quite pretty too! Thanks for sharing this with all of us!

It's nice to know I can use oil pastels over acrylic paint. It looks like you had to use a lot of layers. It looks great! Also nice to see this on a canvas.

I never thought of combining oil pastels and acrylic paint. Learn something new everyday! These are so realistic! So what makes a donut vegan? No eggs?

Gorgeous as always!! Lindsay can you do a tutorial on acrylic inks and how to use them? Thank u!!!

Maybe, I have some but don't use them too often.

@@thefrugalcrafterMaybe they could be a good background for oil (or even soft) pastels? My guess is that if acrylic paint works well...so could inks. What do you think?

Hi Lindsay. I'm taking watercolour classes and enjoying it soo much. I want to ask you what is your favourite brand of, water soluble oil pastels? I'm in South Africa.
@thefrugalcrafter9 ай бұрын
I've only tried Crayola portfolio, mungyo and primaand they are all pretty similar. Craran dasche neicolor 2 crayons are my favorite but they are harder like a crayonthan oil pastels.

Could you use a workable fixative in between the acrylic layer and oil pastel layer? I don’t have clear gesso and I was curious if that would work too as I want to give this technique a try too
@NelaDunato9 ай бұрын
You don't have to use any product in between. Gesso is used to add grit so that more layers of oil pastel will adhere to the canvas. I don't see any benefit to using fixative spray.
@thefrugalcrafter9 ай бұрын
I was going to say the same thing. Just try it over the acrylic and see what you think:)

Whats a decent not costing arm and a leg oil paint set? And brushes?
@thefrugalcrafter9 ай бұрын
There are do many options. Watermixable oils are nice because you don't have to mess with paint thinner, I like Lukas berlin: amzn.to/3x67Cdw As for brushes I recommend synthetic hog bristle brushes like mimik: amzn.to/4ao5ImP zen or menta.
