Would you rather have a big cinema camera or fully rig out your DSLR or Mirrorless camera into a cinema rig? That way you still have a small light mirrorless camera for gimbal work and photography if you want.
@barclaymovingpictures3041 Жыл бұрын
Hard question, if I had to choose only one system I'd go modern classic cinema form factor like Alexa Mini - perfect balance between weight & modularity. But if it's down to certain shots like top-down or specialty mounted work I'd go DSLR Formfactor like Blackmagic Pocket 4K - reducing the amount safety precautions, cost & time for rigging. I think the system you've bought is a perfect middle ground between easy, automated, lightweight & modular, robust, performant. Just recently tried an fX6 and was amazed how compact the system is and how flexible you can use it. And I've even tried the focus automation, it works! Wow...

Im maybe spoilt but I have FX6 as a main camera for shoulder rig handheld or tripod work and a A7M4 for anything gimbal or run and gun. I would say before I got use of an FX6 the A7 was great but I found I was rigging it to look more like a cine camera which was a bit dumb looking back at it as I was taking away the advantages of a small camera to make it look more pro. They are tools I find it's best to have the right tool for the job in hand no mater if a mechnic or a DoP. The other mistake I made was waiting until I had all the kit I thought I needed before I really started shooting. It doesn't matter what you shoot with ... just film for fun, this are the practical skills you are working on.

@@chadwin Thank you very much for your answer. You make great videos Chadwin that inspire and teach. I live in Poland, very close to Belarusian and Ukrainian border. There are thousands of Polish and NATO soldiers right now along these borders, helicopters and heavy military equipment. We are living here in the "great unknown" so to speak. Every scenario is now possible but nevertheless we try to stay positive. There are more than 2 mln of Ukrainian people in Poland already and they still come with every day. Our country is like one state of your country and I don't know how much longer our economy will survive this situation. All in all I keep focusing on positive future and hope that somehow peace will eventually prevail. Best regards for you and your close ones and keep making those great videos of yours. P.S. To have a setup that allows for hot swapping batteries, Tilta's design is clunky since it requires two rods (yuck). I ended up switching to Shape WLB top plate and their V Mount plate which comes with a voltage regulator. Now I have hot swap capability w/o dealing with rods.

Hey Chadwin, great video. I have a question about the FX6. I noticed you kept the stock monitor on the build, can you not feed the on screen menu's to the external monitor? I use the older FS7's and FS5's all the time and you can do it with both of them, I was just wondering if Sony got rid of that option in the new cameras or if its just a personal preference thing?
@chadwin2 жыл бұрын
Yeah, you can actually still get all of the Sony OSD via HDMI info display out. The main reason I’m not doing it that way is so I don’t have to turn the display info on and off every time I wanna change settings, and since I’m recording externally on the ninja v I don’t wanna accidentally bake in any of the OSD settings. It works the same as the FS5 and FS7 I use at work!

@Javier Gonzalez its littary marketing bullshit. The next Block buster is not shot on a fx6 A cinema camera is made to operate by a crew not by a singel operator. You can easy look at the design the fx6 has largly in commin with the old tranditional camcorder its has the same design topbandle with also 2 servo knots. So doesnt even call the fx6 a cinema camera on their site. When you can to pro.sony to go to the fx6 page you need to go to camcorders. When is it cinema camera? A cinema camera has example their menu controles on the right Sight because their are setups by ac on a propper set. Also has it way more connectors.

You live in the past my friend. You should not care about technical terms, only practice, work, results. No indeed, it's not your big production Go-to camera, but you put this camera in the right hands and it's gonna be as cinematic as it gets, for a small price, because of the sensor, the ND filter that gives you the depth of field you need for each situation, etc.
