This businessman reminds me of a mate of mine whose brilliant money-making ideas included a crocodile character that was going to be the next Crazy Frog. It wasn't an animation or anything, just a static drawing. He was planning to get it printed on t-shirts and apparently all the kids would go mad for it. He hired a professional graphic designer to clean up his rough sketches and everything. The end result looked like the Lacoste logo. Then there was the time he heard about plans for Sony to launch the PS3 and, because it was clearly going to be the biggest thing ever, decided he had to become the UK's sole distributor...

When I was in programming school a guy came in to to try and get me and another student to write a huge program, a design tool to preview custom cabinets and specify the plans for cutting out the materials and doing estimates, for free as our graduation exorcise. We said no. I should have done it, put a time limit on it, and then charged his ass for it when it quit.
@superscatboy3 жыл бұрын
When I was at college (studying computer science and maths), I worked weekends in a pub kitchen. Some of the locals caught wind of what I was studying and tried to get me to write a program to "predict the lottery results" (when I quizzed them on what exactly their system was, they described something similar to the "cold numbers" idea, but with even more gambler's fallacy thrown in for good measure). I told them you could already buy shareware programs that did basically that for a few quid, even gave them a website that was selling such a program, but they had the genius idea that I would do it for free initially, and when they won the jackpot I'd get a share of their millions. Because apparently that would be cheaper than a few quid up front.
