Then they could theoretically have already been self sufficient when they were somehow flung into space from the planet explosion and not been harmed. Hell, they still could have done the kryptonian poisoning thing by saying the station was permeated with the element from the explosion!

Thank you for bringing up the "Man of Steel, Woman of Kleenex" thing. It always amazes me how people who don't know the source material make some article about it and fans will somehow eat it. Why? Even if Superman couldn't manage to control his strength he could easily step into a special room that filtered only the red light of the sun, which would render him powerless, so he could do all the sexy times he wanted without any problem. And that's just off the top of my head, there are dozens of solution for that problem, so it's really not a problem at all.

yeah, superman was a huge asshole in the silver age. in addition to just abandoning his only living relative in a crappy orphanage to protect his secret identity, he also played sick twisted mind games like using a "fat ray" on lois and pretending he didn't know her so he could insult her, forcing Jimmy Olsen to marry a gorrila, and a bunch of times making people think they were dying or that he was going to kill them. in the silver age, he seemed to spend less time fighting evil, then mentally and emotionally torturing his supposed friends and loved ones for no reason( and when he did give a reason, it was usually crap). there was a website all about it called superdickery, it collected covers and panels with superman and other heroes acting like jerks and othersuch oddities ( though now it seems to be about disturbing fanart). I bet his secret identity didn't even factor into supes ditching her, " no thanks, last thing I need is a kid sidekick cramping my style! I saw what happened to batman, he started as a dark creature of the night, then he picked up that robin brat, and then he turned into a pathetic dork." ass hole. I'm wondering how superman ever got the reputation as the "big blue boy scout", the mos good noble and kind of all heroes, when his golden age self was a destructive, rebelleous brute, who as linkara said was about as heroic as kool aid man, and his silver age self was a sadistic, abusive psychopath, who seem to see everyone around him as playthings!?!?!? maybe his bronze age self had a really good publicist?

In the Bronze Age Superman was completely changed and restored thanks to Julius Schwartz. It started with legendary writer (a comic book incarnate of ying and yang where for every good thing he wrote he wrote something terrible) Dennis O'Neil made Superman super weak because he felt that Silver Age Superman was too powerful to be a good and interesting character. Following that Schwartz ended the ban of having Superman appear in team up books and DC Presents then bum rushed Superman by having him meet as many characters in the DCU as possible to make him feel actually part of it. Then Elliot S. Maggin introduced the age old question when it comes to Superman; how does Superman effect the Earth and it's people and is it always good. Following that we had Superman exploring space and facing off against intergalactic beings while author writers recreated Krypton. The final nail in the coffin of recreating the Superman mythos was Superman: Last Son of Krypton where we had Elliot S. Maggin explain all the changes to Krypton he did which in turn created the more modern version of it. With that they retold Superman's origin and made him into a new character. Then finally came the Superman movie where we got the Big Blue Boy Scout we have today; the boom of this movie along with the new origin for Superman and his world gave them the perfect chance to make him into the Man of Tomorrow we have today. Until he returned from his death in 1994, but then he got better in 1997. Until the New 52, but the he got better in Rebirth.

I have mixed feelings on Superman this issue. Telling Kara she needs training before becoming a superhero is reasonable. Dropping her off at an orphanage instead of taking her in himself is not. the L.L. being initials of everyone Superman loves, then there's Lex Luthor ...that explains way too much, not sure about Bruce Wayne tho, perhaps his actual name also includes L.L. also, yep Superman is totally the paradigm of goodness, leaving his traumatized inexperienced cousin in an Orphanage right after they met. I just realized why Supergirl's X-Ray didn't bounce off the mirror. She used the heat of the X-Rays to adjust the mirror, so she was using the heat of the radiation, while normal heat vision would bounce off because it's light, and light bounces of mirrors!

But Heat Vision isn't light, it's Heat. You can't reflect it off a mirror.

Two things: 1) I completely agree with Linkara - Superman's decision is 10 different flavors of WTF. The 1996 Superman cartoon and Superman/Batman: Apocalypse did it much better. 2) I've never been much of a fan of Supergirl's uniform being the same color as Superman's. I prefer it when she's wearing the white shirt and blue skirt, like she does in the '96 cartoon. I think it helps her stand out more. But maybe that's just me.

Speaking of coloring, I'm old enough to remember the magic Super-Girl story reprinted in a 25 cent Giant Annual issue, well after the introduction of Kara Zor-El Supergirl. I presume to avoid confusion, the reprint gave Super-Girl red hair, a gold top, and a green skirt. I think the cape was red, I forget the boot color, likely green, and the insignia was traditional red and yellow.

My main gripe with this origin is that they could've made it so much simpler by drawing upon the recent introduction of Kandor instead.
@johnnygyro2295
@johnnygyro2295 4 жыл бұрын
To be fair, I think that was the setup Post-Crisis. Brainiac stole Kandor, which in some universes is what destroyed Krypton, so her parents sent to her Earth to be safe with her cousin. After Clark and Kara defeated Brainiac, the newly freed Kandor, grew back to normal size and became New Krypton. I haven't read those story arcs, but I heard they were good.

Again, thank you, Linkara, for echoing my thoughts on the Superman's "relationship" from New 52, one of the main things that soured me on the brand. It was every bit as forced and superficial as I thought it would be. I don't hold the greatest hopes for the "Rebirth", as they've dubbed it, but if it reverses the damage done by New 52, I'll return to the comic shop, for the first time, in years. Basically, New 52 was to my patronage to DC as One More Day was to your patronage to the Spider-Man line.

Kryptonian headbands just denoted you were a respected man in society. Criminals would be stripped of their headband in shame. Women could also wear headbands, it just wasn't considered traditional, hence why Kara wore one in the 80s.

To anyone wondering, the rainbow fingers thing is in reference to Superman #125 and they actually advertised it as his new superpower. He gains them after being exposed to space radiation from a crashed ship which strips him of his powers save flight and invulnerability. He uses them on some crooks which makes them surrender. ??????

I'm actually glad the Supergirl TV series tried to address the skirt issue by just having her wear thigh high boots and black leggings. and even some of the comics, i believe post new 52, have tried to give her less revealing outfits like making it a full body suit like Clark's

I know I’m late to the party, but the Drak Horse Aliens crossover also had its own version of Kara. But since it’s an ambiguously canonical three issue crossover, she never shows up or gets mentioned again, granted there is sort of a reason for that.

Eh, for Supermans "You weren't even born at the time" bit, i see that more as common sense. It was like, 20, maybe 20-some years since Kryptons detonation. She looked like she would've been born at least half a decade afterwards.
@joshuaingobo1559

I’m real time, the Earth-One Superman would’ve been born on February 29, 1928, with him arriving to Earth on June 18, 1931, while Supergirl would’ve been born in September 22, 1943, with her arriving to Earth on May 18, 1959. But in my version of sliding time, Superman would’ve been 27 years old (or 28 in real time) by the time Supergirl arrived from Argo City to Earth in May 18, meaning that he would have started his heroic career for 19 years (or 20 years in real time) by this point, since he started as Superboy at eight years old (on June 11, 1939 in real time). Also, this would mean that Supergirl arrived to Earth 28 years in real time (or 27 years in sliding time) after Krypton’s destruction.
