There was a big fire today in Meadowmere Park, it took out three houses. You passed by them at the 14:49 mark. If strange little towns is your thing, check out South Floral Park between Elmont and the village of Floral Park. It's small and walkable, it's its own village, and kind of forgotten by the towns around it.

Man, you brought back memories from a long time ago. I used to work in the five towns plaza, 24 years ago, in a furniture store, and I used to go to IHOP for lunch. I remember how I had to ride in vans, because they were cheaper and faster than buses, from Sutphin Blvd, to Five Towns Plaza. I left NY 14 years ago....I miss it sometimes. Great video friend.

The city took my grandparent's home to build the Belt Parkway. Everytime I pass the Ocean Parkway exit I drive over where their home once stood.

@@BradThePitts Robert Moses was hailed by many for his work, but he chopped up many neighborhoods and displaced a lot of people. The Gowanus Parkway cut off Red Hook from the rest of the area. My friends' also had homes underneath it.

Interesting area. Regarding complaints about airplane noise, I look at it this way -- if you move into a neighborhood near an airport AFTER the airport was built, it is your choice to put up with the noise, so you have no reason to complain.

Very nice job. An informative, casual walk through tiny "forgotten neighborhoods." A little dramatic, too, as you never know what you might come across. The zoning brings working-class residential, aquatic, light industry, shopping centers, and quiet and busy streets mixed in with some graffiti, abandoned boats, and trash lying around together in a kaleidoscopic way. Thanks for taking us to a place where most of us would probably never go but have likely wondered about in an instant at some point in time.

Along with the mall along the street. If you had walked further there’s a Costco, Burger King, and a Popeye’s . Also, a few miles down is Lawrence(which is Long Island).

Queens is a part of Long Island. So is Brooklyn. Physically. The separation is cultural. Most areas in Queens are known by neighborhood names and mail is addressed to the names. The other four boroughs are not that way.

Seems like good people in Queens. I just watched a really good movie last night called Frequency and enjoyed it a lot. Always drove past this area in my childhood. Interesting to see what is actually beyond the main roads. I imagine its usually louder with normal air traffic, covid has less flights going and coming. The planes probably fly pretty low. Over one town in Cedarhurst, the planes fly so low that the ground shakes. Rosedale, Inwood, Howard Beach, Rockaways all have similar feels to this area.

Just fantastic Kid!!!! So esoteric and weird and arcane and messy! Everything I like!!!! I sort of watched it before I woke up and then rewatched it carefully. Mid-watchings, I looked up Meadowmere, coulda been Meadowmere Park and learned of an arcane synagogue: Derech Emunoh, that finally burned down in 2002 after some previous fires. It, the congregation then worshipped in a trailer for 7 years. The original building was beautiful - modelled after the oldest synagogue in the United States; Congregation Touro in Rhode Island I think. Anyway, I am always so happy to watch your videos. They take me places I sometimes feel I have dreamed before I see them. Thanks Kid!!!!🌉🕍🛥️🐕

Just some streets Cos there isn’t water there-but yeh the houses are the start of the video just before that dog starts barking-it’s just like this street that my friend lived on that I’d go to a lot. Back in the 1960's and earlier if you went north on Brookville Blvd from Rockaway Blvd there were houses to the right that were built on stilts over the swamp and there was a dirt road that went out to them off of Brookville Blvd. There were probably about 15 houses out there and one was right on Brookville Blvd. They started to abandon them in the late 60's early 70's

Yeah my family lived on 148th and Brookville Blvd for about 16 years. That area was only a few blocks away from where “snake road” really got rural. We played in the swamps all the time. And hung near the TACAN tower ( near where the Eastern airlines plane crashed ) ..

Yeah, it wasn’t an A&P. There was one on Hungry Harbor Rd though. There used to be a movie theater in the mall.

To me the basics look pretty familiar, I think way way back this was Dutch wharf area, build by the creek so they could bring the boats in by tide. Makes sense due to the name Nassau county (the last name of our Royals is Orange-Nassau) Long Island was named Nassau for some time too, long time ago. See Wiki.
