I have the bigger down tube/free flow cat and the hush-o-matic. I’m here to tell you. Very fun and I’m very happy. Even full open it’s never ugly loud just throaty and sounds like a real sports car. In quiet mode it’s very polite but hints you ain’t a hair dresser. I really like it.

Hello, I just installed the HOM without the electrical CAN integration on my 2023 but the vacuum line I connected to the same pipe in the engine bay but on the passenger side, will this still work ? Or does the driver side give a different suction than the passenger side ? Since I followed the pipe and they are connected from passenger side to driver side.

@OrimarDez It's actually very important to install the tee into the exact spot we specify in the instructions (s3.us-west-1.amazonaws.com/instructions.flyinmiata/intake_exhaust/Hush-o-Matic_Exhaust_Kit_06-49190.pdf). Please see step 7 on page 4. Otherwise, the valve will not function properly.

Does the unit "remember" its last setting? For example, if the wiper is used on intermittent (let's say it starts to drizzle), will the last setting you used be remembered? (Let's say it was 60%.) Or will it forget where it was and go to totally closed or totally open all the time? Also, does it remember your favorite level when you shut of the engine and leave the car?

It works off whatever the current setting is on the wiper ring. If you don't move it when you turn off the car, the exhaust will be the same the next time you start. If you do adjust it while using the wipers, you'll have to move it back to your preferred setting when you're done. It won't default to totally closed or totally open unless that's where you put the ring.

So by default, no integration: the valve will open proportionally to how hard the engine is working? For the integration, does it stay that way and simply change the response curve (similarly to "sport" and "eco" settings for electronic throttle); or does it become On/Off at the designated throttle threshold (let's say at the 90% throttle setting, would 89% completely close the valve?) I'm really interested in this product, I'm just a bit confused on that part. If the integration retains a curved response, which setting is most similar to the non-integrated setup?

With the integration, it becomes an on-off switch at certain throttle positions. Trying to remap the response curve would require some closed loop feedback from sensors. It's also possible to plumb it so that it goes into "organic" mode at the various throttle thresholds with the same curve (for example, it switches over at 50% throttle but it will immediately move to the 50% position), but the general effect of that is to give you the choice between turning the butterfly actuation on and off.

It sure will! However, we haven't fully verified compatibility of our CAN integration package with the HOM on 2024 models.

Yup. As in "full of coke", or combustion byproducts that will jam the butterfly. You'll also see the term used in the same manner when referring to the deposits on intake valves in your direct injection cylinder head.

This is very cool. How does the intermittent wiper functionality work after the relay is added to control the valve? Do you lose the wiper speed change capability?

Intermittent wiper function stays the same as factory. While the wipers are off, the stalk controls exhaust noise and ignore the wipers. While the wipers are on, it controls the intermittent wiper speed and leaves the exhaust to the last setting you used. Let us know if you have any other questions we can help with!

As much as we'd love to have titanium exhausts, it's very unlikely we'll release one for cost reasons.

Sorry this is not related to this video but are you planning to have an insulation kit for ND soon?

Our sound deadening kits can be adapted to work on the ND, but as far as just the insulation, the ND's come with much better insulation from the factory and are a much newer car than the NA/NBs so we haven't felt the need yet to develop and ND specific insulation kit. Never say never, if there is enough interest and customer support, we might be able to make it happen!

It should be. It's not excessively loud in "hush" mode and it has no effect on emissions.

Hi there, I’m very interested but as I’m in the uk I don’t want to do anything that might fail an MOT, when it’s set to quiet is it around the same volume as stock? I know the video mentions it’s slightly louder but how much louder is my question? Also I assume with the sports cat it gets much louder any info would be great 👍

@samstott1004 When the Hush-O-Matic is on the quietest setting, it will be only slightly louder than stock. Without knowing exactly how the MOT test is performed, we really aren't able to quantify how much louder because if we aren't testing this the same way they would, the result is irrelevant for you. We'd recommend going back to this video around the 2:22 mark and comparing the stock muffler sound to the Hush-O-Matic, as that is likely to be the best comparison between the two mufflers.

Yes. The relay is only listening to the status report from the wiper speed selector, it's not changing it.

We aren't too familiar with EU rules and regulations regarding exhausts. I'd be surprised if this caused any issues, but we suggest checking with your local authorities.
