They would do a lot better to recruit from retail and customer help lines as they are the ones I can think of off of the top of my head to be able to deal with every call properly... the fatigue of fake calls, attempted swattings, and idiots calling for non-emergency and even non-police related issues can get to someone and we have all heard the results... Ya'll hear the operator for the attack on Pelosi? They do not have any universal training to recognize things like a distressed call where one cannot talk freely and have built up a conditioning due to pocket dials and wrong numbers. I think even John Oliver had a segment on 911 operators and it highlights the worsts...

Keep including the dispatchers in these videos. As a newly hired dispatcher this helps us keep the 300th Call Syndrome from effecting us. We get complacent easily because there are so many calls that are bullshit, or small fry that when big shit hits we get flustered or emotional. This 911 operator did not control themselves and I hope they got the feedback they need to never do that again.

@@bigotbonded It is obvious you either have never managed people or I sympathize for those you have. I was a senior supervisor who trained supervisors in customer service. I always said "Trust but verify" meaning you damn well better be randomly monitoring conversations so we can further set agents up for success when we recognize the opportunities. Also, when a direct report fails at anything, as a leader, I always say we should consider this our own failure. Where did we not support them properly? Why did we not recognize they needed more training earlier? What could I have done differently to avoid this incident? SO yes, this 911 dispatcher did a terrible job handling this call. First her management should be reviewing both training/continued training as well as monitoring (QA should be a part of all employees who deal with the public) If an employee is given all the tools necessary and still fails to perform, then we can conclude that this may not be the best fit for them, and send them on their way.

I counted about 12 steps from where he took the shot to where the hostage was standing. Assuming each step was not more than 3 feet that's a 12 yd shot. With a somewhat stable position that's not a tough shot even with the "stress" everyone will mention that makes it more difficult. He's not even getting shot at, not near as stressful as it could have been.

My personal favorite is the one where the guy and his friends are attacked by a Mugger in a parking lot with a gun. Our hero Sparta kicks the mugger in the chest. And takes the gun and sits on the guy until the cops show up. He told the 911 dispatch operator everything that happened clear as day. We heard the audio of the phone call. She can't be bothered to repeat a single sentence clearly oh, so she just tells the cops there's some kind of fight! So the cops show up freak out on him knock him around handcuffed him and charge him with assaulting somebody with the use of a firearm! And treat the mugger like he's the poor little victim. Even though there's five people standing there besides the hero telling the cops what happened. Come to find out the muggers drunk out on parole and for the love of God some odd reason the cops decided to give him his gun back from the previous crime! They claimed it was some sort of clerical error. So the cops looks stupid, and their egos can't handle that. So they charge the guy with a retaliatory strike after they say the incident is over. Because he put his foot on the muggers back when he tried to move after the fight. I watched the video! All because the dispatcher couldn't be bothered to tell the officers what was happening! And then the cops had to come in like Billy badass and take over the situation, that was completely already handled.🙄 Too many cops act like little children with giant egos and a gun. YOU CAN'T TELL ME NOTHING! Didn't you just Ask me what happened? Tarded

You couldn't do that, but that's exactly why LEOs and soldiers train: Not only was he a good shot, but he also had enough awareness to find the best worst angle and support his gun as well as he could. The other part is that this wouldn't be too much of an extraordinary shot on a flat range; under stress and adrenaline it absolutely seems like one, but there's people that absolutely thrive under those circumstances.

Anyone who’s worked as a first responder in any capacity knows that there are a fair share of dispatchers like that one. One time I had a dispatcher tell one of our units “you don’t need additional resources cuz fire hasn’t requested additional resources,” despite our unit being the only first responder vehicle on scene. During COVID I did testing for the ambulance company I worked for. One time on our way back to base the truck broke down. She was a old shitty rig and the gas gauge was broken and we ran out 2 blocks from base. The dispatch supervisor told us and called the senior guy in the trucks phone and told us there's another truck behind us with lights and there's 7 of us you can push it. As we pushed it into the parking lot a tow truck turned the corner apparently a supervisor called one to the garage and HR walked out of the front door leaving for the day. They saw us push the truck into the lot asked why, said what the fuck turned back around and ripped the Dispatcher a new one. He had to write a formal apology to the driver and everyone who helped push.

Yeah, yeah,yeah, blame it on dispatch even though it's the job of the police to be prepared, not dispatch. At least dispatch has to work. But the only thing the police do is respond to arrests made by store security; I bet the dispatcher you speak of is better at using handcuffs than you can. Most police officers who graduated the Academy in 2022 were never given handcuffing training which is why they have so many security companies to make arrests FOR the police, especially in Chicago, NYC, L.A., Oakland, Seattle, Portland, and Miami

I was actually thinking about that as I kind of imagined being in the same situation. "Standoff" is important to remember with AR platforms. At short distances, you have to aim about 2" high since "point of aim" and "point of impact" are two different things at short distances due to the height of the sights or the optic above the bore of the rifle. A lot of people forget that.

I have never understood why 911 operators seem to ask the same questions multiple times. I get they aren’t there but it seems like they constantly ask over and over when its easy to hear what they are saying
@leonardwei3914

Probably for positive confirmation. You want to ask someone in high stress situations to make sure they are accurately reporting something, whether because circumstances change or because of misunderstanding. But this 9-11 operator could be a little more professional about it.

They have a nationwide system they follow on their screens that are prompted when call is initiated. They have to check those questions off as they ask. He's repeating answers. Yes she could have spoke more caring but everything shes getting from him is going straight to officers while they talk and those officers need to know every detail. Plus for the report, every one of those questions and answers are logged. Yeah it sounds annoying for her say that,but answer the questions and it'll all go smoothly. I'm sure she was reprimanded by her lead and supervisor. They listen on calls. Morgan County dispatcher -state of Alabama.

My friends and I have been practicing for this type of shot. Put a water bottle in front of a bean can and hit the can but not the bottle, so far we would've been able to do it at our range with 0 stress. Couldn't imagine what it'd be like when it's the real deal.

You don’t rely on luck or confidence, you make it a part of your routine to go train. Dedicate one lunch break or evening after work per week to a focus range session, and one of your days off you focus on general skills. So if you work a normal persons schedule you have a Saturday morning session what are you do all the usual stuff with aimed shots, controlled pairs, one-handed shooting, and rapid reloads. And at some point during your work week you take an hour session to just focus on a certain skill. It can be shooting with your offhand it can be triggered pools it can be recoil management it can be drawn speed it can be mag swaps, The point is whatever you felt was lacking during your general session is getting the focus now. And after you have your next weekend general session you pick another thing to spend your focus session working on. One thing I can’t recommend enough is doing dry fire practice so you can really work on your sight picture and trigger pulls, and it’s completely free, although for safety sake you can do it with an airsoft replica gun.

I once asked a marine with several deployments about groupings and accuracy. Gave me wonderful pointers. Then I mused that these were all well and good but I have no clue how they're supposed to help when the baddies are filling the air with lead and you need to make a snap shot or your buddy dies. He just shrugged and said ''Training.''. This was grade A marksmanship, under fire.

@@kithkindeck a marine veteran I will say most military engagements happen at ranges greater than 100 meters. Anything less than 50 is pistol range and you should be able to hit those targets 99% of the time in a range scenario. 300 meters is the max range we zero our rifles at and I know personally I'm aiming a head and a half above the head to hit torso. Edit: I should mention I mean with iron sights. If I am using a scope that is zeroed in I do not need to compensate so much. To qualify on range you use iron sights.

@TheDomi120 This comment seems very short sided and not realistic, for one you have the opportunity to have a gun which everyone should have and then you have the responsibility to use it correctly, when this man decided to put other people's LIVES in danger he has forfeited his own right to safety, you can't just take someone hostage and expect to be treated with patience and understanding, criminals are criminals especially ones like this man who was willing to kill innocent people, the only response to that kind of evil is a different kind of evil that puts him down
@jerry_6136
@jerry_6136 Жыл бұрын
@TheDomi120 you seem really ignorant to how the world really works and trying to blame the fact this man died on him owning a gun is just wrong, yes he may have been failed by a broken system that doesn't actually help the mentally ill but it doesn't matter, I know plenty of truly mentally sick people and they still never would think to do this, you also have no idea to his actual motivations and are just creating a made up narrative to make it seem sad these officers had to take a criminals life, it's not up to those officers in that moment to think about all the potential reasons that lead that guy to this moment or why he's doing the things he's doing their one job is save the hostage and prevent other people from getting hurt and they did a damn fine job at that, I'm sorry but we don't live in a made up fantasy land where all criminals will be cool if they just had a little compassion and understanding that's not how the world works and thinking that way is how people die, this man had plenty of opportunities to give up but didn't, HE put himself in that situation, HE continued to escalate the situation, and HE gave the officers no choice, such a crazy fucking world we live in where people like you condemn the actions of these officers that actually saved lives
