Lifelong La crosse resident here. Love that you show the rest of the country our crazy police interactions. This tent city has been allowed only recently, it never used to be like this. Unfortunately the judges in our area release these criminals way too quickly. They appear at bond hearings saying they’re indigent and released on signature bonds. I’ve seen charges of burglary, armed robbery, fentanyl dealers with repeater enhancement, all released on signature bonds. Most of these dandies have MULTIPLE open felony cases and the state pleas bargains all charges into the most serious one, usually dismissing all others. If you get in trouble in La Crosse Wisconsin, make sure to get in a whole bunch of it

Several years ago, the police department started publicly expressing their concerns about the judicial system here and called out the judges with their lack of "judgment". Although our city does have a pretty major problem with our homeless population made worse by our mayors inability to effectively control the situation and our local judges being asshats who give too many chances to the meth heads. Hell that tent city was even just to placate the homeless meth heads who were just posted up there because it overlooks the Mississippi River.

Most cities people think are hell holes have a majority of good citizens. Here in the UK watching the news you would think Americans have a 1 in 2 chance of being shot every time they go out. Obviously it’s not like that really but sensational reporting eg ‘city X or city Y is being completely destroyed by rioters’ gets the viewers which brings in companies wanting to advertise to the most people. I’ve had Americans telling me how they think the UK has stabbings in every city, town and village when in reality knife crime is mostly between criminals and dumb teenagers ready to stab another dumb teen over an insult on Facebook 😔.

If you're a far left, you get a pass for everything. As a 41 year old Asian dude who grew up in the worst parts of the city. Spent my teenage years living 3-4 blocks from the biggest project in the city. Hip hop was part of growing up in the city, most of my friends in HS was Black, Puerto Ricans, and Dominicans and it's how they all talked, without the hard R of course. After HS, I completely stopped using it. As I met others from college and work, I realized the rest of the nation outside the urban areas didn't talk like that. I moved to a predominately white town that saw a total of 4 homicides since the turn of the century. Not bad since it borders the capital. Washing my car this summer, saw a little white girl holding a Bluetooth speaker, she was about 11-12, blasting NWA F the Police and she was singing along. My jaw dropped. As someone who grew up listening to hip hop (now a fan of 80s and 90s rock), I can tell you there's a lot of N words in that one. Hell the band's name is an N word. It became so normalized now that even little suburban white kids are saying it freely. The parental disconnect is killing this country.

The issue is police brutality is so difficult as PR so if you pepper spray a crowd SOMEONE is going to make it negative to the public and the public will believe the seemingly victimized first over facts. So departments end up wasting resources like extra cops for an otherwise reasonably force controllable situation because various bad cops and perception skewing recorders have fucked up societies perception for the ones just trying to do their jobs properly. And since you never know what a crowd may do you need some form of control measure. Extra cops is the least aggressive. Is 8 too many? Who knows, we don't know the size of the crowd or potential crowd. Bad cops and societal inability to be skeptical with incomplete information have led to a very inefficient form of policing just to avoid being seen as doing the wrong thing. I would've loved to join the RCMP but chose not to specifically because while I'm a very calm, patient, level headed individual, I know all it takes is 1 person broadcasting 1 side of the story to make a proper procedural arrest make you look like an asshole to the public. I knew I may very likely grow to one day be bitter about my job and end up leaving the force just because society can be so presumptuous and ungrateful.

Heads up, you have to pay for every bid you place on deal dash. If an item is $1 and then you bid on it again for $2, you have now spent $3 for the miniscule chance to get something

I came in to work this Friday at 6PM to deliver pizzas . Just a few minutes before a girl driver had her car warming up to make a delivery and a crackhead stole her car . She approached her car with the food and he was there shouting " They're coming to kill me " . He jumped behind the wheel , sped away at 90 MPH , crashed her car a quarter mile away and was caught by the police . Her car is totalled and she can't afford to buy Christmas presents , and is hard pressed to pay her roommate half the rent . Edit . I feel bad because I sometimes show up to work early , and I always carry a ready to go shotgun and a backup pistol in my truck . Earlier this week I added an FN PS90 PDW to my arsenal , keep it behind my driver's seat , and can load it with 50 rounds in a few seconds . I wish I had been there in time to stop it from happening . I'm an Honorably Discharged US Navy veteran , served ten years at sea as a Radar Operator , a member of Naval Security Forces , and two years shore duty as an MP . Yet somehow I feel like I let my coworkers down .
