Active transport vs passive transport - This cell biology lecture explains about the difference between active transport and passive transport. Active and passive transport are biological processes that move oxygen, water and nutrients into cells and remove waste products. Active transport requires chemical energy because it is the movement of biochemicals from areas of lower concentration to areas of higher concentration. On the other hand, passive trasport moves biochemicals from areas of high concentration to areas of low concentration; so it does not require energy.

But Na+ K+ also moves through ion channels in the nerve cells.. so that case, is the movement "passive transport"??

What is the need of active transport because why I ask this ques means there is more amount of some partical inside the cell so why is active transport

Passive transport, because the water move from high to low concentration ( doesn't use energy)👍

One confusion: After a certain time, system reaches steady state, the rate of mass transfer between inside and outside cell becomes zero. That occurs even if there is an active transporter (such as OATP/PgP) involved. That's when free fraction of compound (unbound/protein bound) inside and outside becomes equal. That is perhaps an equilibrium situation. Lots of important equations of clearance involving active transporters are based on this concept. Therefore, I doubt if the statement is right that equilibrium is not reached when transporters are involved.
