So in case people don't get why lactation rooms are such a big deal: Women who are breastfeeding need to use breast pumps while they're working. If they don't for an extended period of time, they will stop producing milk. So you have a company that demands its employees work like 12 hour days, but can't afford to put a lock on their lactation room. According the lawsuit, dudes would just walk in on women while they were pumping and just gawk at them. On top of all that, you had some psychopath who would raid the fridge for breastmilk, literally stealing food from a baby.

As a woman I think I can bring insight on the breast milk situation, for one if a baby is only fed breast milk giving them a formula because their breast milk was stolen can easily make them sick, and two if you don’t understand why someone stealing breast milk is creepy and disgusting already just imagine a lady at a sperm bank taking your sample home for “personal” use it’s definitely more extreme but it’s the only analogy I could come up with for guys “bodily fluids”.

As someone who studied writing and film in college, i was taught that "stereotypes" are used to subvert expectations and create unigue characters, for instance "he's a panda, but not just any panda, a kung fu panda" thats using the stereotype of "pandas are usually lazy and dont do kung fu" and making it into a subconscious recognition by the audience. Now apply that to humans: "a young black teen living in a rough Detroit with his in-and-out of jail father and ill mother, learns that he loves classical music and wants to study musical arts. He gets accepted into an art college but when his father reads his acceptance letter he disowns his son. the teen, now depressed, falls in with a bad crowd. One night they pressure him into vandalizing a school, he gets in trouble with the law which could jeopardise his college career. He is given one last chance by being scentanced to public service where he is now a janitor at a rec center. Thats when he meets an old Chinese man who teaches jazz to teens. The teen falls out of his depression slowly as the old man becomes his mentor. The teen goes to college, performs in a big band. he invites his father to a performance, the father doesnt show up, the teen gets sad, then the mentor shares a tale of his own come up, the father hears his kid play on the news, decides to show up to another show, gets impressed with his kid's skill and is moved by the music so much that he vows to change his ways, the mothers condition gets better, the end" I just wrote an entire treatment to prove that Activision/Blizard has either talentless or cusked writers

I remember thinking that the "ability" section of blizzard's diversity tool meant "cognitive ability" and that made me really confused since torbjorn had a high score. I was thinking maybe they made torbjorn autistic like symmetra (because being obsessive over geometric shapes apparently makes you autistic) simply because torbjorn was too focused on his engineering. It took me a while to figure out, no he only has a high ability score because he has a mechanical arm... I would have never thought that torbjorn was disabled if it wasn't for blizzard pointing it out to me. The mechanical arm is just part of torbjorn's design, he's not disabled, if anything his mechanical arm enhances his abilities.

@humandisaster39022 жыл бұрын
I mean, it wasn't used for development but it's actually a decent example of how approaching a character like that COULD be useful. It characterises Torbjorn, and while I'm sure it's a boon for the game itself I can't imagine he has a good time using that set of pliers he has for a hand for cleaning the dishes. It's a bad system for a few reasons but the aim of diversifying characters in that way where they have unique traits, whether they be disabilities, injuries, backgrounds or ethnicities is a good one where so much focus can be lost on the other side of that coin, on their presence and special powers, which is also something you shouldn't ignore.

And then, hilariously, it's the extreme left leaning liberal media that says this tool is a bad thing. Never try to appease crybabies, because they'll always find something to complain about. Imagine your chief complaint being that there are too many white people in a game... when it was created in a country that is 60% white. Glad to see you back in action, Act Man. About the breastfeeding thing, it's actually common for breastfeeding mothers to need to pump during the workday and their employer is required by law to give them a space to do it in privately. When you're breastfeeding you need to pump during the day, so it makes sense that mothers returning to work would need a safe space to pump in.

Regarding the "lactating" facility. At my company we have a "mother's room" where women who've just had a baby can go down and pump their breast milk while they are at work. This is needed because they develop the milk throughout the day and can become very uncomfortable and often times painful. For those women at work, there is no baby to feed, therefore no relief. Providing the mother's room gives them the opportunity to step away and pump and store the milk to take home after work. It's a nice accomodation that not all companies have. It's almost a must if you're a breast feeding mother and are also a full-time worker.
@jimmybob3312 жыл бұрын
Hey Act Man, glad you're back. Regarding lactation rooms. Basically, if a woman is breastfeeding, she keeps producing milk, regardless of whether or not it is eaten. So, if she's working, she needs to pump milk for 2 reasons. 1/ so the baby can be fed wherever it is and 2/ to prevent milk building up which can be very uncomfortable and lead to serious infections like mastitis. So having access to those facilities allows these women to continue breastfeeding (which is the best thing for babies) while working.

Exactly, on top of that, most of the people who cry about these issues aren't even watching/spending money on the products they insist upon being made. If so many people Truly wanted and supported these things as much as they say then the numbers would reflect that. But forced diversity products are almost always commercial flops. Not because the vast majority has any problem with diversity itself, but because it's a massive set of handcuffs on writers/creators to navigate the minefield of PC culture bullshit and still make a product that is actually good. The point that The Act Man made about Overwatch is a good example of non forced diversity, it makes perfect sense within the narrative to have all different characters from all different walks of life in that setting, so great, thumbs up. It is a little more jarring-however, when you're watching a movie set in a RL city that has an overwhelming majority population of a certain skin colour and every person you see is a different skin colour to the next. It's immersion breaking, reeks of corporate pandering for profit and a lot of people can smell the bullshit. By all means represent as many different types of people as you want, but if you can't maintain relevant consistency with the world in which your story happens then you fucked up.

Act Man did lie about why he was demonetized though. The short of it is that he began threatening YT directly on top of also stating that he was in talks with employees over at YT to get Quantum banned. That breaks the TOS. Griffin Gaming has a video on it. Was really disappointed to learn it as well. Funny enough, if Act Man had just reigned in his ego and not stated that he'd get Quantum banned, Quantum would likely be banned right now. But because he, a massive channel, stated that he'd get QuantumTV, a much smaller channel, banned, he basically put YT into a corner. If they'd have banned Quantum, it would basically be seen as a monopoly large channels have over small ones. I'm not defending YT here. They are extremely hypocritical about their TOS, including with Act Man/Quantum. But what I do know is that Act Man wasn't being honest about this case. Instead of focusing 100% of that hour long video on the real issue, which was Quantum's false copyright striking, he spent 95% of it trying to get Quantum banned by bringing up all his Tweets from a decade ago like a literal feminist #MeToo witch, straight up virtue signalling, getting his following to trend #StopTheHate and making Quantum out to be a bigot (which he is in many ways, but that's no crime on YT if it's not your content). That's borderline defamation. Act Man has been critical of that type of shit in the past himself. But now when he was in a position to use it to his benefit, he just pulled that trigger right away. Sucks for him that he, as a white man, doesn't hold the same power of virtue signalling on YT that another race or gender would, and that he tried doing it to a black man. It backfired. YT would never ban a black owned channel no matter how deserving if it's instigated by a white owned one. Maybe instead of virtue signalling, Act Man should've been spending time and effort fighting back against that kind of injustice. Instead, he was furthering the same woke shit that got his channel demonetized. Tried to harness the woke as a weapon for himself, but got burned by it. Ironic.
@ma.20892 жыл бұрын
@@TheStraightestWhitest hmm? Threatening? Didn’t he make a joke? YT isn’t supposed to use things outside the platform to take down channels. It’s why an anime reviewer who killed his family still has his channel up, including the video where he said he was ending the channel because of what he was going to do the next day (shoot up his family and attempt to shoot up a school). It’s why Quantum still has his channel despite threatening ppl and wishing death on the LGBT. How exactly is that breaking TOS? Taking to YT isn’t against anything. Making jokes on Twitter also isn’t against TOS. Also, no, YT wouldn’t doing a “monopoly” thing. The case was obvious. Quantum broke TOS. Calling him out for breaking TOS and abusing the copyright system is a common thing on the channel, and him saying he’ll defend himself and take him to court if he tries to attack his channel isn’t a threat. ActMan can’t defame Quantum when he’s already defamed himself. Pointing out death threats isn’t woke, nor does it have anything to do with feminism or the me too movement which is about sexual assault/sexism. His ability to wield virtue signaling doesn’t fail cuz he’s a white man, as plenty in the past have tried and failed to do similar things and they weren’t white or men. YT just doesn’t care. There’s a reason why LGBTA ppl r often demonized for no reason. The simple fact is that YT has always been on the side of hyper religious conservatives, which we’ve seen with the channel it allows to thrive on the platform despite sending targeted harassment to other people. It’s all performative activism. Actman was too “woke” for YT. We can see your bias by the way you speak, as well as your very obvious username. We know exactly the types of ppl Actman pissed off, so we know exactly why he was demonized. We’ve seen channels that are “woke” be taken down while ppl like Quantum r free. It’s all performative.

Why do I have to copy my every single comment and have had to since 2018 before posting because half the time when I refresh the page, they got shadowbanned without explanation of notification of why? They flat out rejected having any of the employees on the board, the ones protesting who made the request. They made BANK off Diablo Immoral, like millions already in a couple of weeks because as much as streamers "hate" it, they sure do love to cover it. Let's not forget WoW already broke pre-order sales records with Shadowlands (literally was the most sold PC game of all time for like a couple weeks) now they're wracking up money with DF pre-orders. Then Overwatch 2 is around the corner, which I'm sure will have tons of monetization and lots of whales throwing money at it despite it just being a big Overwatch 1 patch with barely any differences. Just one quick note Act Man: Companies will frequently settle lawsuits rather than battle them out in court because the settlement is less expensive than paying for the *years* of lawyers' fees it would require to exonerate said company. While a settlement may *look* like an admission of guilt, in actuality it is far more likely to be a purely economic decision rather than legal comeuppance. If there was, indeed, sexual harassment on the scale that was alleged and if it was possible to prove it in court, A.B. could've very easily been on the hook for 10s, if not 100s of millions of dollars. The diversity tool honestly feels really gross and offensive to me, like... I'm Southeast Asian, I love my culture, and I value what my people are like, but this tool just makes including an Asian character feel less special and feel more like they got included just because their race and ethnicity. It devalues the culture and race as a whole if it's being added simply to cross off a checklist.
@seanwilliams76552 жыл бұрын
As a black man, I think diversity is a good thing. However, it has to have some common sense applied. If the game is set in modern day New York, I expect to see more than white faces. If the game is set in a small fishing village in Iceland back in 1477, then a black person being there wouldn't make sense. That said, when it comes to completely fantasy settings, some diversity doesn't take anything away from the setting.

I think if a game has a certain setting, the characters should reflect that setting. Like act man’s reasoning with overwatch having diversity, that makes total sense. Having WW2 be vastly more “diverse” than it really was takes a lot of people out of the immersion. I don’t think people would complain if a game based around an African tribe didn’t have Asian people or Latinos in it. Just make games that make sense. If you need absolutely require a diverse cast, put it in a setting where you could logically see a diverse group.

WW2 was diverse. People of many ethnicities were part of it. Problem isn't the diversity. It's the lack of effort to make these characters feel real. Not because of their gender or nationality, but their stories and dialogues that felt like it came straight out of a shitty action movie that spent most of its budget on action set pieces and zero money on the writing department.

As a recent new father I have only just learned: When you have recently given birth you produce lots of breast milk and your boobs literally fill up to the point it hurts and you have to empty it. So if you aren't with your baby you just pump it out and save it for later because breastmilk is super valuable. And if you don't pump it you stop producing as much. It's pretty standard for large companies to have areas to pump comfortably in private. It is not standard to steal it... that I know of.

not going to lie when it reaches a breaking point maybe its time to go home and asks your husband to help you ehmmm pump it out~~~ =(ikik im a lost cause)
@yeeppeey1586 Жыл бұрын
Im surprised to see that none of the top comments are clearing up breastfeeding misconceptions. Lemme fix that: If you’ve recently given birth and are breastfeeding your baby, you don’t get to choose when your body is ready to lactate. Your body produces milk nearly 24/7 and the mammary glands can only hold so much before needing to be emptied. If the milk is held within the glands for too long, it can lead to complications resulting in clogged nippled ducts and “rotten” milk. It’s very dangerous for the mother (who can get infections) and the baby (who could lose their source of food). So, what should new mother’s do after returning to work when they’re still in that breastfeeding stage and have to work 8+ hour shifts? When her glands feel “full”, a breastfeeding mother will use a breast pump to extract the milk and store it to feed to their baby at a later date. A breast pump is a device that attaches to the breast and imitates the suction of a feeding child’s mouth and sends the extracted milk to either a bottle of bag for later use. Breast pumping is very important as it ensures the baby will have a constant supply of food, even if mom isn’t around to breastfeed. It also ensures the health of the mother by making sure she doesn’t end up with clogged nipples. I cannot imagine the frustration of being a new mother, returning to your shitty video game developer job surrounded by irl redditors and 4chan users, trying to pump milk so your child has food when you’re at work, and then some asshole dude steals your kid’s food. I would see red
