Bennie Thompson, Rep Bonnie Watson Coleman, and Rep Al Green grilled Nielsen over border security, the zero tolerance policy, illegal immigration, migrant children and more. Immigration reform is top of mind for both Congress and the White House, but their approaches to border patrol, ICE, and DHS couldn't be more different.

@@joeramirez873 Those places did exist under the Obama administration and were used in fact as she said a detention center. What changed though is that when Trump took office and his administration radicalised the ICE. And the effects are as you see on the news are people being deported every other week in their houses, their places of work. In addition to that, the humanitarian issues that also arose aka isolations of children for months away from the parents without proper bedding, toilet, or food necessities. And most recently, the issue that women who are labeled as illegal immigrants and are currently being detained are apparently being forced sterilization. Another reason why this is always being related to trump is because the president himself actually exhibited racism during his campaign, his build a wall initiative, giving ICE emergency powers which all comes down to him being xenophobic. We add to the list as well him refusing to condemn white supremacy, his Trump rallies that he held during a pandemic of all things. I mean come on. I don't know what else you need to see, like you have to be blind for you to think that this man is a decent president much less a decent human being.

You severely overestimate the importance of racism of you actually believe that this has anything to do with colour. People in the UK are racist towards eastern Europeans - who are white - and work the same jobs many Mexicans do in the US, lower class professions that often don't pay too well. And Americans manage to hate each other based on a their preferred party. Racism as a motivation is overrated. They put the kids in cages because they fear that the parents would act out. And as the parents have undoubtedly broken the law, if a parent does something wrong and a kid is taken into custody - they put them in a police station. If you have a problem with how this looks, remember that politics is a cruel and unforgiving world. Results are what matters the most. And this right there is tax payer money. Remember how Americans love to joke about the cost of their education or medical bills? Guess what, if half of your activley voting population regularly opposes higher governmental spending and is ok if their own citizens suffer because it seems to benefit them, it hits the weakest he most. And illegals are without a doubt some of the least protected folks in the world. So instead of less "shocking" holding facility, officials build a cage because it costs less and get the job done. Morals are not universal. They don't beat the children, they don't let them starve, they do everything by the book. It's just that you have a "problem" with the original rules. Many people do, myself included. I am not playing the devils advocate here, I am telling you how it is. These border agencies are tasked with upholding the law of the land. Everything they do, is legal. It's not pretty but it usually works (not talking about Trumps measures, that guy was the worst in quite some time). Do you know what politics is often about? Compromises. The issue is that the US has forgotten about this concept, has a severely undereducated population in terms of politics and that one side has compeltley lost it while the other side is extremley average and doesn't get too much done either way - because of the voting systems for the house aso. - and all this means that if it's cheaper to put kids into cages than to find local solutions in south America or to maintain a heavily guarded border - then this is how it's going to play out. But this is not about race or ethnicity, it's about people who believe that they are right and don't want to think about their positions REGARDLESS of the colour of their skin. I could talk about this a lot more but that's basically it.

There is actually a song in spanish that the main chorus says "even if the cage is made of gold it doesn't stop being a prison" referring to the disability of many immigrants to travel to where would like to go with their U.S. born children or be able to live without fear of being deported. A good example would be my family of that showing. My dad had to travel with one of my cousins to Corpus Christi to a hospital because he is the only adult that has permanent residency (all of us kids are born citizens). My aunt had to stay behind and even stayed over with my us because of how worried she was added to the fact she can't travel with him to make sure he is safe.

Let´s be straight! These cages ARE NOT luxury! They have cement floors and thin mats and FOIL blankets for the kids to wrap-up in. NO binkies nor pacifiers allowed! Rosaries are taken away from the prisoners to deny them even spiritual comfort! Older children are taking care of toddlers /children! Lights are on 24/7 and loud noises are made all night long (by the sadists who work in these prisons) thus to ensure no one gets any real sleep! The attitude at these camps is that you are here to be punished! The Justice Dept. even had a female attorney argue to the court that soap and toothbrushes are not necessary for detainees health. She even argue against sleep as a component of health! This is EVIL in plain sight and anyone who calls it anything else has lost their moral compass!
