Norm Nixon was a fan's favorite and when he was traded to San Diego it was a rough time in lakerfan land

@Pert Burton as far as I remember, no real beef between the two...they both needed the ball hands to do their best work...one hand to go (and it wasn't going to be Magic)..and the Lakers needed a player who could stretch the floor...so they cleared up the backcourt issues and floor spacing issues by trading Norm to the San Diego Clippers and acquiring Byron Scott.. That move allowed Magic to be the primary ball handler.

@Pert Burton Magic and BScott complimented each other better...the issues the Lakers faced with Magic and Norm were revealed in the losses...they lost in '81 and '83...by then Kareem was getting older and their window closing and they needed an outside shooter to help space the floor and make teams pay for doubling their post players..BScott was the answer...not only was he a good shooter, he was athletic and at 6'4" could guard bigger guards

Yeah, I'm almost 50...while I was a little too young to know behind the scenes of the Lakers, I DO remember Norm Nixon and he struck me as a straight up professional. The HBO series has him looking like a diva with pedicures and trying to humiliate Magic. I'm sure he wasn't happy with the Lakers drafting Magic but I can't see Norm whining to Kareem, getting pedicures, and acting like Regina from Mean Girls. Having said that, it's extremely entertaining. Great acting BTW.
