Actress & Director Robin Wright on breaking the ‘man’s world’ conditioning | Next Question

On the first episode of the new season of the podcast Next Question with Katie Couric, Katie sits down with actor, director, activist Robin Wright who stars in and directs the new movie, Land. Robin plays Edee, a woman experiencing tremendous grief who decides to leave her life in the city to live in a cabin in the wilderness. “It’s about the existence you once knew, that you once lived in will never exist in the same way again,” she says, “and I just thought, wow, that’s something to explore.” And with 2021 already proving to be a standout year for women in film - with more women premiering at Sundance and more female directors nominated for Golden Globes - Robin addresses Hollywood’s glass ceiling and whether the cracks are finally making an impact on the industry. ‘Land’ is playing in select theaters now and will be available on PVOD March 5.

I SO ADMIRE THESE ACTORS WHO USE THEIR POSITION IN LIFE TO CONTRIBUTE TO HUMANITY - whether by protesting, becoming patrons of non-profit organizations that need support...etc. After the fame, wealth... what else can they do? Last I looked, there's over 6500 homeless female vets. Mainly, because asking for help usually means burdening someone else, and vets aren't about that. Not to mention people who want to "help" often really just have something hiding up their sleeve. So many just become further withdrawn in to a mass of humiliating social services that *require* their dignity as payment. The real point though is to her remark on fundamentally altered... so they come home but never find home again. Not without 'help' but again, nobody's asking for anything they're just going to get kicked in the teeth over. And fwiw, it's a dynamic like you're saying where it's not exclusive to war vets, though in some ways they *are* very specifically different. Paradox, I guess. Good luck to her new movie and this was an interesting exchange between the two of you, thanks. :)

You have to reach into law enforcement too. Men do not care if women get raped and beaten, as a judge just let a guy who did just that is now walking around looking for his next victim. You have to elect judges who care about this issue and never let this happen to anyone! BTW, this isn’t the first time this judge has done this because he didn’t get raped, what does he care ?Do you feel safe now?

Men do not care if a women gets raped or beaten. That’s a really big generalization. I fell sorry for you if you really think men feel this way. There are always bad seeds out there, but to make a collective out of it is ignorant. I’m a husband, and have three daughters. You think I don’t care if they get beaten and raped? I have sisters. I have many women friends. Understand this: I’m a vet, and if anyone hurt any of the women around me, I wouldn’t call the police. Get it? I don’t have ANY male friends or family that would tolerate this. Direct your statement towards those it truly concerns, and stop the man bashing.
