I don't think the xp 64 bit had proper directX drivers at all. A friend tried to set it up years ago and got nothing but a headache and homebrew drivers that never worked. I would definitely recommend going with an SSD rather than a CF or SD card in this case. NTFS (or any journaling file system) will eat through SD and CF cards rather quickly. You should get an IDE to SD adapter since SD cards are quite more common and are quite inexpensive than compact flash cards. Thank God you finally upgraded the gpu!!! If you ever wondered why the integrated gpu caused so many problems such as low res, low colour depth images or things not displaying properly, that's because the VESA compatibility in the integrated gpu is crap!!! To put it simply, VESA compatibility allows an OS to run at resolutions higher than VGA res without graphics drivers installed. By the year 2000 most GPUs where compatible with VESA 3.0. With VESA 3 this is how you are able to see the typical Windows 7 boot screen, the "Windows is loading files.." text in higher 1024x768 res instead of 80x25 text mode and also when you boot into Windows XP or newer with no Graphics Drivers, you can run in 800x600 and higher in 16 or 32bit colour depth. Intel's graphics however where stuck on VESA 2.0 until the GMA 950 which only allows 640x480 in 4bit (16 colours) colour depth without dedicated graphics drivers. If it was up to me I would have changed the GPU on day 1 of having that PC for better compatability!! By the way your channel is awesome!!!!

I’d LOVE a full-fledged video of the XP 64-bit development (and all the included heartache) on your behalf - there was a time fairly recently in which that was my daily driver OS. I know there’s a lot of bad blood surrounding XP 64-bit, but I’d really enjoy your showcase of that misapplied anomaly of a Windows release. Just some food for thought. Cheers, MJD!

I later upgraded it to Vista to find it didn't look as nice as other computers with Vista or 7 installed with the transparency and all.. the 64MB of VRam just couldn't do it. Tried registry edits and everything to no avail. Crazy stuff.. but I did learn that Ubuntu will allow transparency on ANYTHING... but this "Extended Life Linux" OS I got ahold of that claimed to be able to make any old computer carry out day to day functions really made the most of that system.. still wasn't enough for the larger Halo:CE maps. Yes, definitely an SSD in the 98 PC is something we want to see, even if obviously won't run at its full speed by any means. The flash card solution is only OK for older OS like Win 9x, newer ones make a lot more read/write operations, severely reducing the lifespan of the card. Very satisfying to see Aero running on a PC which doesn't even have a proper (typically AGP at its time, later PCIe) graphics expansion slot on it, I wasn't really sure whether any PCI cards existed that were good enough for that.
