One of my highschool teachers said it best: "Asking is licit. Answering is a courtesy." it's not illegal to ask someone something. But you're not owed a response nor for it to be nice. Sure it's best to not be rude but at the same time it's not illegal to be rude. It's just shitty behaviour.

Was in high school and asked to be excused to go to the bathroom. The teacher (male) stated that I could wait until the class ended. When I insisted that I could not wait, he insisted on knowing "just why is this so important?" So I told him that I was on my period, that I was bleeding heavily and I needed to change my pad so I would not bleed all over the classroom desk. Never asked for details again.

@tinkeramma10 ай бұрын
@sharroon7574 I've found that deaths are either anticipated or traumatic, sometimes both. Traumatic deaths are usually gruesome and often suicides. In general, it seems the less people say about how a death happened, the less I actually want to know. These days, I'm more likely to ask if a death was expected than how it happened if I ask anything at all.

My dad ended up in the hospital two years ago, and we almost lost him. I decided to share a muted version of that info with my patients as I rescheduled them because I wanted to share that info. We have a lot of mutual back-and-forth chatting when they are with me, so I felt comfortable sharing it as I rescheduled them. However, I didn’t share as much with newer people, and I certainly would never assume I had to share. Nor would they assume I had to share. No one is entitled to my personal emergencies. ‘I had an emergency,’ is more than enough explanation. I feel so bad for the follower’s experience. No one should be pressured like that.

It can be frustrating, but I'm also super grateful that the management team at my job is so consistent about not sharing any details as to why people are absent or no longer working with us. I'm immunoweird. Not immunocompromised exactly, but I do have a medical condition that causes my body to struggle to fight off literally anything. My work is typically pretty good about it, especially considering I work at a daycare which might as well be an infectious disease lab. But sometimes, a doctor's note isn't enough for my boss. At which point, I go into a disgusting amount of detail about exactly what is happening. "I threw up so hard i popped blood vessels all over my face, it was everything in my stomach and I looked like a monster. I got it in my hair, on my shirt, everywhere. It was a bile and breakfast special."

I would shut down his curiosity real quick by saying “it was female issues and exactly how detailed did he want/need me to share”. Funnily enough, he really did not need me to explain further. Btw, he was the VP of HR and a lawyer at the time and really should have known better. His asking me that sort of stuff was a legal issue just waiting to be escalated. Idiot boss! He soon learnt to be careful when he asked me personal questions because I would tell him whether he really wanted to know or not. 😜

I understand that being in the chair at the salon is kind of a place where women open up about their lives, but everyone has a right to privacy, especially the professionals who provide the services we are paying for. Over the years, I have developed a relationship with the women who I have had work on my hair, and I did learn about their lives, but I only learned what they were willing to share with me. And they only learned what I was willing to share with them. Regardless of how much you like each other, it’s still a professional relationship, and while they may be great listeners, they aren’t therapists, & their lives aren’t fodder up for discussion unless they choose to share.
