@mintcoral Жыл бұрын
Your probably being hypothetical but. That's because in other industries it would be. In my state if a patient does not have insurance we are legally obligated to give them the cost of their treatment plan before services begin. And some doctors in our area also give patients with insurance an estimation based on information from their insurance. Anyone getting work done on their home get an estimate from companies before work begins. Going and filling up on gas or getting groceries you are able to calculate your own Estimate based on prices listed. You as a consumer have the right to know the costs of a service before it is rendered. You also have the right to decline services if the company is not transparent about costs. The company also has the right to decline services if you insist on having an estimate before hand. Though if they won't give you an estimate, I wouldn't wanna go there.

I legitimately made myself broke the last time I got my hair done because I was charged one price at the appointment before, and the next appointment I was charged over $400 for the same thing except the first time she didn't have time for a blowout and this time she was "making up for it", she didn't bother to say anything until she rang me up after she had already finished. I haven't gotten my hair done in almost 2 years because of it since I had trusted this stylist. Had a wash, trim, and partial hightlights. Cost me about $450.

The amount of hair dressers who never told me before hand how much it was gonna cost or asked how much I was comfortable with and it ended up costing more I 100% believe that people think this way. And because I have anxiety I end up just paying it if my hair isn’t achievable in my price range I’d live to know I’m definitely willing to change it 😂😂 I probably won’t go back to you if you didn’t tell me and I end up paying $500 when I budgeted $300 I’m always polite though. As I said I have anxiety I literally will just pay whatever on my credit card and hope to pay it off at some point just cut out other things in my budget for the month and then feel dumb and beat myself up for not speaking up.
@mintcoral Жыл бұрын
You as a consumer have a right to ask for an estimate before services are rendered. Some states even require services that have fluxating prices to give estimates before services can be rendered. Check your state law. In my state doctors have to give patients without insurance the cost of services before services are rendered. Labor workers such and construction, plumbing, and electrical always give estimates before services are rendered. And in some states if the company fail to inform the client that the cost is going to go over the old estimate and do not provide a new estimate. The client could win in court and not have to pay the additional costs. Because the company failed to be transparent and communicate with the client. Grocery stories, gas stations, even the spas I have all gone to have prices listed for their services and the prices for the add-ons so you are not surprised by the total at the end. Your hair stylist should be no different. They should be someone you should be able to trust and to be transparent about cost.
@mintcoral Жыл бұрын
Also don't feel dumb. What happened to you is predatory. Just because something is industry standard doesn't make it right. And also depending on the state legal. If you find yourself to be shy in-person while on the phone ask if they give pricing before services as you have a budget and the last place didn't which is why your liking for a new stylist. It really helps the employees and you create a healthy relationship. Your also more likely to be places with a stylist that will fit your needs. It's how I met my stylist and have now been with her 14 years. She even traveled an hour to do my hair for my wedding and helped me find the makeup artist.

Wish at the time you could have fired back at that boss saying that lots of clients will leave the chair if they don't know what it's going to cost before it starts. I made the mistake once getting into a chair for a trim, and not asking the price. Because I assumed, it was a clean up the sides trim to my fade, that should be 25 to 35 depending on salon. Little did I know that I had walked into ' a celebrity' salon and they charged me $85 for that clean up and trim😮😮. Never again

How many people have had sticker shock/remorse after not being told the price (of ANYTHING, not just hair) and then find out only after it's too late to make the adjustments needed to make sure they can still buy food and pay their mortgage. LOL. only exaggerating a little. I think she'd make more in the long run because people will spend what they can when they can - but they won't be repeat customers if they felt they were taken advantage of in the first appointment. Waiting for part 2 to see how she replies.

I want to know upfront what something's going to cost. The last thing I want is to go to pay and find it's not only taken my hair budget but my food and bills budget for the coming week too! There is only one thing that is absolutely certain to happen from that scenario, and that is that I would never go there again and I'd make sure all my friends and family know not to as well.
@Indyghurl Жыл бұрын
We were taught that consultation is an ongoing part of the clients appointment. You literally learn more about what the client wants when you get them in the chair. It's also an ideal moment to add on a service, so long as the client knows what to expect at the cash desk or you can aim to do more on a return visit.

I used to work in retail and once worked in a shop not far from London. A very well known actress at the time used to shop there and I spent a lot of time with her one afternoon discussing her needs and helping her make the right choices. She spent quite lot of money and left happy - and I was happy to have been able to help her, but the boss laid into me saying she came in for stuff every week and always wanted to return it. Well this time she didn't. She came back the next week, came straight to me and asked me to help her with something else. She never returned anything because she didn't need to - she got what she really wanted first time. Unfortunately I didn't stay there long because the boss' attitude was so alien to me that I just wasn't comfortable working for her.

@OpalLeigh Жыл бұрын
It loses them much more money when the customer doesn’t come back because 1. They were charged for a service they weren’t provided a price for and it was out of their budget. 2. You didn’t get a good result on the hair because you didn’t clarify and ask enough questions There are lots of salons in big cities, client retention makes your income stable (they are now coming back whenever they need something so that money will always “be there”) and more predictable (you know that as long as you don’t piss off your loyal client, that they are coming next month and know how many more people you need to fill your schedule)

I could go in and be like I'm a level 3, last time I dyed my hair was 4 years ago. But does that tell you a lot no. Don't know how damaged my hair is, how many times I've dyed it, how fast does my length grow, it could be a couple of inches, it could be constantly breaking. You don't have that level of knowledge if you don't have a detailed consultation. First time I dyed my hair never had a consult my hair was basically virgin I guess, it bleached really fast. I had streaks when I was a kid probably from 8-10 years old I got streaks at the beginning of the school year, and it was done by a family friend, fast forward age 14 getting my hair bleached for an ombre with level 3 hair in one session fried parts of my hair, my baby hairs are completely fried, the front seems more damaged in the front than it is the back. But I got my hair done the following year, but now I just get it done by my sister who learned from my mom who went to school for hair. She was a hairdresser up until 2019 when I graduated, now she only does family and friends
