My son (the mechanic) wanted to replace one actuator on my 2013 Taurus as I only had heat in July. The part is only $15.00, and I suggested that while in the dash, that we should replace all actuators due to their age. Total parts bill less than $80.00! To do this the console, gauge cluster, driver side air duct, radio, climate control cluster and everything below the passenger side air bag had to come out of the car. Spending an afternoon sharing cuss words with my son, PRICELESS! I am not so surprised that Dodge also has the same INTENTIONAL problems with bad parts. Why are there many items that have metal gears and will last forever, yet highly educated engineers have to make garbage products out of crappie plastics? Planned obsolescence, keeping the service department busy and parts sales are more important than bulding and selling a great product. Great job and keep up the great work!

I don't know if it was mentioned but on some actuators you can remove the gear that has a broken tooth turn it a half turn and pop it back in. On my 2010 Dodge Ram I was able to do that on the actuator next to the glove box. It looked like only part of the gear is used, it just turns back and forth not using the other half of the gear. So I did that so now I'm using the other half. I did this 7-8 years ago and it still works fine. Of course I wouldn't do this on a customer's car but it's fine for my own vehicle. The dealer wanted 800 bucks to remove the dash since they didn't know which one might be making the noise. I told them no thanks. I was lucky to find it was probably the easiest one to get to.

I have a similar actuator problem with my 2014 Ford Fusion. The driver and passenger side actuators are working properly. The issue is with the actuator that controls the center vents defroster door. It does the clicking thing as well and the door doesn't move. I've had the part for a while, but am not looking forward to pulling the whole dashboard apart. The dealer wants to replace the entire unit, a $500+ part and 100s of dollars labor, when it's just the actuator. Labor is whatever the labor is. Right now, I have it jury-rigged by propping the door closed through the center vent. Some day, when it's not 1000 degrees (I live about 90 miles from you), I may tackle it, unless it is something you would be interested in doing.

All I can say is that I hope the blend door is easier to replace than the one that's in my 14 Camaro. You essentially have to removed the entire dash and interior to get it replaced. That cost, outside of warranty, is estimated at 2-3k. Seems like bad design, especially when you realize that GM knew these things were faulty fairly early on and did nothing to address the issue.

My Crown Vic had the entire dashboard apart 2 weeks ago for the blend door actuator.. I like that design better.

You need a underdash creeper, basically a flat board like plywood and legs on one end. Lay board across rocker panel and the legs on the other end sit on the garage floor.
