one way to get rid these 99-03 TL's transmission problems, is to replace the transmission with a 2000-2005 Saturn SUV transmission. not many people know about it!

I think most of these problems couldve been solved by consistently changing fluids, and making sure the transmissions gets serviced regularly. People like to just leave automatics alone, but that's not what you're supposed to do.
@andreapreston9475
@andreapreston9475 8 жыл бұрын
I was told by someone who has gotten over 250,000 from two of these, that what he's done is to change the transmission fluid and filters along the same schedule as recommended oil change. He mentioned removal of particles in trans filtration system via this and that the Acura transmission for these years was inadequate at this
@crazyjkz
@crazyjkz 7 жыл бұрын
Andrea Preston The regular transmission fluid & filter changes won't resolve the real problem. The problem with these transmissions is a design flaw where the oil passages are not large enough to allow an adequate amount of tranny fluid to reach the 3rd clutch pack. The lack of oil flow causes excessive heat and eventual breakdown of the 3rd clutch packs where particles (from the breakdown of the 3rd clutch packs) start clogging other oil passages which ultimately leads to transmission failure. The good news is the transmissions that were replaced after March of 2005 had a redesigned 3rd clutch pack and larger oil passages which significantly reduced the transmission failure rate. Some of those newer ones have still failured prematurely, but they last far longer than the previous ones and they at least partially resolved the problem.
@crazyjkz
@crazyjkz 7 жыл бұрын
Jacob Wu The only information I know of is that any of these transmissions that were replaced after March of 2005 (and due to the high failure rate of the original transmissions most of them have been replaced after March of 2005) were issued with a redesigned 3rd clutchpack and larger oil passages to resolve the problem. This action greatly reduced the premature failure rate of these transmissions, but it didn't completely resolve the problem because some of the later units still did fail prematurely (under 100k miles). I do know that there were many cases of the pre-March 2005 where transmission failure was occuring as early as 20k-30k miles! But that kind of ridiculousness was extremely rare in the post-March 2005 units. If you goto www.acurazine.com and goto the 2g TL forum then you can learn a lot more about this and you can hear from 2g TL owners that have gone through all of this, they have extensive experience with this issue.

when mine went bad, the way I got around was doing a little "manuel" trick: there's D1 D2 D3 D4 D5. you take the knob crap i forgot the name , and when you put it in Drive, you pull it down to D1. wait for the Rpms to get to 2-3 then just slide the knob to D2, wait for 2-3 Rpms and slide it to D3, wait for 2 1/2 -3 rpms and slide it up to D4 and don't go past D4. then you can leave it at D4 to down shift automatically or you can downshift by pulling it back down to D3 D2 D1.

If you have check “engine light on “you may have a code for defective or dirty solenoid also a defective neutral switch or contaminated transmission fluid but before anything check all your fuses and relays but most important check your transmission fluid level the right way. warm up the engine run the car for a little while then stop the car for about 30 seconds then check the fluid level. In other automatic transmissions you check the fluid with the engine running all the time but in Acura’s don’t

There was a known issue with the transmissions of those models, which were fixed or replaced free of charge if the car had under 100,000 miles. Our 2001 TL had the transmission replaced in 2006 and the new one has worked fine ever since (we currently have 185,000 miles on it). Your car either never had the tranny swap, or was abused by a previous owner. These transmissions are usually rock solid reliable.

I have replaced 3 transmissions on the 2 CL's I have owned. The replacement period isnt just mileage based, it is age based. My last one blew out at 99k and Acura did nothing. The replacement just blew out 30k later, Acura will do nothing again.

I just noticed your car has 315,000 miles on it. Most other cars would be complete scrap heaps by then. Be glad the only problem is a worn out transmission. By the way, the only difference between a new transmission and a rebuilt one is the outer casing. All the internal parts are replaced either way.

@@viyau I don't know, as I said, a rebuilt replaces just about every part in the tranny that can wear out, so it's effectively a new transmission. I think mine is on it's way out. It could be the rain (I was going through a lot of water earlier) and I was trying to accel. as normal and it wouldn't go, then it would catch and it would cause the wheels to slip. Did it a few times, so I stopped, went in a store and got a cup of coffee. It did it once when I left and was fine for the rest of the 5 mile drive home. If it is going out I'm just getting rid of the car. I'm not going to dump money into something over a decade old with near 140,000 miles.

When my transmission went, the car would bounce while it shifted into second gear. The problem in the video did happen occur once for me under high RPM, but it was wet out and I thought the problem might have been related to traction control. I came to a complete stop, put it in park, and then back into D5, but the problem never repeated itself. I ended up spending quite a bit of money to have the transmission completely rebuilt. Acura is knows for transmission problem. your solution is not to buy Acura. we had two Acura (2000 CL and 2003 CL) both has transmission problem. BTW: Acura is not a luxury class, it's a premium.
