I have a 2001 all original teggy, 86k miles, dealer maintained, completely stock and I just love that car so much. Truly dependable, bulletproof, and a dream to drive. My kid doesn't understand why I don't get a new car. It starts everyday, gas mileage is crazy awesome, and all I ever have to replace is tires, brakes, and oil/fluids, maybe some wiper blades while everyone's American Muscle is sitting dead in the driveway waiting for another mechanic visit and thousands in repairs if it's not chewing up gas like a ravenous jungle cat. Best car ever. When I do finally get a new one I think I'm still going to keep her too.

Previous owner [which was the first owner] provided proof that it indeed is a true GSR. -I spent sunrise to sundown for a week on cleaning the entirety of the car for the shoot. Such a response from such a person! I appreciate it. Good things should be left as is and if not, tastefully slightly mod it [intake, optional side skirts, ITR wing, rear valence, etc. the small stuff] In the end, to each their own right? My Personal Preference is to not off center the cambers, lower it to the ground, and eBay exhaust it. The car is already cheap enough, why go cheaper on it? If you're going to care for something, don't do it cheap. Can't afford it? Save up. Nothing good is rushed. I'm glad you enjoyed the car. To anyone else that didn't, I'm sorry. I understand. Not everyone has to like every thing. You can't please the world! :)

And yes, I hate to say I seem biased, but the Integra was built so perfect, thought out so perfect, it puts shame to the modern cars. I hate to say, but my assumption is that the car industries are hungry for money and at the same time are making the modern cars much more safer. Bulkier, safer, more functions / entertainment. Seems like they're desperate for money. Whereas back then, car industries had a different mindset. You can tell that they meant serious business about the Integra. Look how many models they made: RS, SE, LS, GS, GSR, Type R, the color availability, 2 door, 4 door, and how many years the Integra line was in production. I can go on forever sounding like a fanboy, but I will never say the Integra is The Best car out there. It's just One of the Best. Cheers.

Just bought a 97 GSR Coupe for 3 grand a couple months ago. It needs a ton of maintenance work, and I do plan on modifying it a bit (nothing crazy just replacing old parts with some slightly better after-market pieces rather than going full OEM), but despite that the car is amazing! I work at a Porsche dealership and regularly drive 200k cars, and it always amazes me how I get into my Acura and the shifter feels better than the Porsches!

I purchased a 94 Integra GS-R when they first came out. The 5 spoke Alloy wheels (Not shown here) were great looking and the 8100 redline was a joy to explore. 170 hp and 128 ft-lbs was not a lot , but the car was only 2600~ lbs. It had a better power to weight than the Mustang GT at the time (GT only had 215 hp) and hung with the turbo eclipses and talons. The clutch and shift linkage was top notch - one of the best of it's time and was a good performance car for the money. I have since moved on to WRX STi and Supra Turbo, but that car was my first sporty/performance car and I wish I didn't sell it.

GS-Rs are definitely special cars. Although it ain't a Type-R(tight car), I had an absolute blast driving mine and am not sure if I'll ever find a car that I'll love driving as much as the GS-R (Sedan). RIP Teggy.

I had one of these last year before I picked up my 2015 STI. You're making me miss that car with this review! Like you guys said, it's not fast but it maintains its momentum so well. And the light weight makes my STI feel like a pig in comparison. I definitely checked off the hot hatch box with it. One of those "must have" cars, or at least a "must drive".

I own a red 1994 Integra GSR. I bought it new in May 1994 and I've kept it stock. It has 88,300 kilometres on it. It has never seen winters (snow/road salt) as I store it every fall. I keep it in the garage most of the time to avoid excessive fading and theft. Not planning to ever sell it. My son has his eye on it though... lol

I absolutely loved my 94 Integra RS. It didn't have the v-tec, but it was plenty quick enough. I bought it with some mods, Z3 fenders and a dual exhaust, but otherwise stock and it was the most fun I've ever had. I am a Honda fanboy though, so take it as you will. My current ride is a 7th Gen Civic and, while it's still classic 5-speed Honda fun, it really needs some proper tires and an exhaust to fully enjoy.

Being a recent owner of a 2000 Integra GS-R (DC2) and a current owner of an Acura RSX S (DC5) I will say that they are both excellent cars. They both have their pro's and con's, and excel at many things. I truly have enjoyed owning them and will continue to do so as long as possible. As time goes on, I hope that neither will be forgotten. ...Personally, I enjoy the DC5 RSX more for daily driving. It offers a little bit more of a smoother ride with a much much more modern feel to it (in comparison with the DC2) but like others have said, the integra's really do have such a nostalgic draw to them.

+vard mike Type-R's are in a different price range than GS-R's. GS-R's are the top of normal Integra's but Type-R's are racing homologations, limited production racing cars.

+vard mike VTEC is Variable valve Timing and lift Electronic Control. V Tech is an electronics company that makes phones and kids' toys. And yeah... I don't know what they're smoking to think the GS-R was the best. We could argue that the Integra Type R was actually the best Honda EVER to be sold in the USA simply because it was the only Type R to make it to our shores so far. But, I have not driven either, so I couldn't say for certain. I do know that ITR's had 195hp from the venerable B18C5 (over the 170 they stated in this video).

Nice review of the GS-R and thats why I have kept and just love my original owner '97 GS-R all stock except coilovers. Yes, odd that the wheels don't look stock. And yes, its missing the vtec sticker on the back, which was probably stolen like mine and I replaced with a new one. Love this car, don't ever want to sell it, a true classic in the class of NSX (also owned) and S2000 (not owned, yet).

I've owned both for years. It's hard to notice a difference between them, but it's there. The 4-door is more rigid feeling in the back around bumpy turns, but it doesn't transition quite as fast. But because it has slightly better weight distribution, there's a little less understeer near the limit, especially with a bigger swaybar.

I had a GSR, blew it up twice in the 3 months I owned it. And I didn't thrash it, I wound it out and drove it like it should've been driven, so I probably wont own one again, Honda single cams are the way to go for true bullet proofness. And they can be built and made fast despite what some might say, I have even seen d15b7's with itb's lol.

VTEC- all of the lag, none of the boost :) I just can't deal with the rheostat style power delivery on the street. I find it very frustrating.

+future62 All you have to do is lower the crossover point for a smoother transition. I don't know of any other engine design that gives you two different camshaft profiles on the same cam.

ventodave Lowering the crossover point doesn't fix the lack of torque in the lower rev range. Peak torque will still come at like 5K instead of 7K. Average HP is still very low compared to a larger, torquier, equally powerful engine.

+future62 That is true, lowering the crossover point doesn't fix the lack of torque. I also agree that the lack of torque can be "fixed" with more displacement. Gearing can also used as a torque multiplier without having to change the engine. In response to your other comment, I believe that every internal combustion engine (correct me if I am wrong) delivers power like a rheostat/potentiometer/variable resistor hence the higher the RPM (the more you turn it up) the more power it makes (or allows to flow through the resistor.)

I'm guessing that this car has the steel wheels with previous gen wheel covers and missing the rear GS-R badge to hide the fact that it's a GS-R as they're pretty high theft in the Bay Area. Was that Hwy 130/Mt. Hamilton Rd./San Antonio Rd./Mines Rd in between San Jose, the Lick Observatory and Livermore? If so I love that road! Great review guys!

+Claude Dottin I'd imagine a new Type S would feel comparable to the old Type R, except the DC5 will benefit from the increased torque with the extra displacement. That's what I've noticed at least. Additionally, from the factory structural rigidity is considerably better on my base DC5 vs. my old Integra LS. I suspect with coilovers or very beefy anti-sway bars you could replicate the feel. I would love to drive a GS-R or Type R. It's too bad the Type Rs are so ridiculously expensive now.
