On the heels of the new 2023 Acura Integra, we tell the story of the DC2 Integra Type R and why it is relevant today. With how difficult and expensive these cars are to locate in good condition, we question why people are paying so much money for them. There are more expensive cars that have a similar mystique like the Lexus LFA and Porsche Carrera GT, however this car was always obtainable.

@rasa porosangue I spent a few days in one of these last year. It’s a hard thing to explain. The balance of the car is such that the front end pulls the back end around so it feels balanced almost like a RWD. That’s probably the best way I can describe it.
@mikey631
@mikey631 2 жыл бұрын
@rasa porosangue I had a GSR back in the day with many engine and suspension mods (some lifted from an actual Type R), and when setup properly with some good front negative camber, you could truly "turn with the throttle". just after corner entry, the rear would start to step out, and you could balance it with throttle input. It wasn't the extreme drop-throttle moves you had to do in some FWD cars to get the rear to step out, because the car wanted to step out a little bit naturally. Then you'd use the throttle to adjust the attitude of the car as necessary. I had a friend with a '99 BMW M-coupe drive my car at the track once, and he told me, it "doesn't feel like a FWD car"..

I have owned my Integra Type R since new and I am about to give it another oil change at 310,000Kms. My outlay in those 22 years has been less than $10,000, which includes 5 sets of tyres, 3rd clutch, 3 distributors, one only set of disc pads and one radiator. The motor is untouched, yet I rev it to 9,000 rpm every day. I recently fitted a sports air filter and added some special German fuel additive, resulting in a noticeable improvement in torque and acceleration by as much as 10%. The feeling of exhilaration when I drive this car is just pure pleasure and even though I have the money to buy a new hot hatch, I really have no interest in parting with this car. The Honda Integra Type R is special and is the last of the true performance naturally aspirated engines.

I'm giving the car to my son and I know that once he has driven it, he will understand just why, for 22 years, I have got so much pleasure out of this car. Sure, many little shit boxes will out accelerates it, but put it on a track and only the best hot hatches can outdo it. It's just a beautifully balanced car and a special piece of art!

The production value and level of effort and beauty this exudes is second to none. This is large budget documentary production that rivals and even supercedes work from sources like BBC and Hagerty. Absolutely stunning.

This video is easily their best work and deserves an emmy if they do exist for youtubers. I've seen a few Hagerty videos with Cammisa. I prefer this channel because they actually let you see the details of each car, including the interior. Cammisa did the Taurus SHO video and not once did he go over details on the interior. Plus, Cammisa doesn't take you out on the road like this channel does and let you experience first hand what it's like to drive. Instead, we get lots of footage with him sitting in front of the car inside the garage. The production values on this channel is incredible. That first person view from the drivers seat out the window is amazing. I still don't know how they mounted a high end camera to his head like that.

What's so amusing about Mark driving this car on the track is that he's been more speechless than in any other car he's driven. It's kind of like this modded Type R saying: "Just shut up and drive. I'll do the talking!" Your true passion came through on this one.

I noticed that too. In fact, as the revs were screaming at 9000, I was waiting for a small tear to come down Marks face as he realizes this may be the last time he drives a beautiful machine from the past. Having had a 1998 ITR, this video literally made me tear up with nostalgia. You are correct that few other cars have brought that kind of connected visceral feel as the Type R, with my BRZ being a distant second. Driving an Audi now, I've tossed around the idea of going to a new Civic Type R or waiting to see if there is a performance version of the new Integra, but we know what happens when you buy cars trying to chase nostalgia, in fact, you have spoken about it many times. On a side note, this is why I'm getting more into motorcycles; they may be the last vehicles touched by electric motors and electronic nannies.

I keep telling my son, who is four, that when we graduate, we'll build a track focused, 90's Honda - not sure as to the chassis. I'm convinced that rebuilding 90's sports cars will be the anecdote to today's vehicles. Have a good one.

The old Type-R's were the real deal. Other car companies always claim that their flagship sports cars come from a racing lineage, but in reality, the passenger versions, with their invasive nannies, excessive comforts, and almost certainly automatic transmissions are the polar opposite of racecars. When Honda offered these "real" racing machines to the public, it was a dangerous business decision considering the vast majority of the consumers were certain to find them too rough, noisy, and lacking luxuries. Not to mention the claims of a "gutless" engine, which to this day is my most reliable indicator of someone who has no idea what they're doing behind the wheel of an engine properly tuned for peak power.

Many times I was told i should get rid of it, but I never could. I always gave the excuse that it was an investment and that it would be worth more money in the future.
