Took some time off to enjoy the summer heat and towed the boat with my Acura MDX. We found out quiclky that the AC was intermittently working and found out that the cheap (made in vietnam) relay had gone bad. I show you how to diagnose it and how to replace it easily for cheap (or free).

I can't believe it actually worked. My AC was working intermittently last summer, but it worked most of the time. I stopped using the AC during the winter, but when I started to use the AC again a few weeks ago, the AC wouldn't work at all. Nothing. Blowing warm air. I was going to try to recharge the AC unit to see if that worked, but decided to check KZbin to see if anything else could be the problem. I came across this video and when I tried what was show, the AC started to blow cold air. It was that simple. I went to buy a new AC Relay at Autozone for around $9. Fixed.

Dude that was amazing fix for my acura MDX 2007, had the exact same problem of slow draining battery and the air conditioner was mostly not blowing cool air. I replaced the relay and the air started blowing cold air and i will see if the battery stops draining but it looks good.... Thanks a ton, saved me a lot of money taking it to a shop....

Hey, great idea to make this video. AC would go out from time to time. Refrigerant is full so I kept KZbin-ing. I checked the relay and sure enough, the other ones were OEM and this AC one? Like yours, made in Vietnam. I swapped them and found the AC worked fine, but only one fog light came on. I decided to just pull that cheap one and will likely replace it with OEM later. Thanks for the tip!

I have a Acura MDX 2011 my air condition works and it gets super cold. Sometimes it will just start blowing warm if not hot. I can turn it off wait a few minutes and turn it back on holding my finger on the button and kind of wiggle it and then pull my finger back and it’ll blow just real cold. Most likely you need a new ac condenser. Check rock auto for an oem denso one for $300

Great video. I have intermitent cool air and on long drives the a/c goes from blowing cold air to not blowing much at all. Could it be the compressor? Or I have read it may be a blocked evaporator drain. Any inexpensive solutions?

Hi there, I did this and was able to fix my AC! Thank you so much! However, when I tested the relay by plugging in a different one, now I get the "Check Emission Systems" and "Check VSA" warning on my Acura TL. I bought a new relay to replace the AC one, and put the other relay back, but it's still giving me the check engine light... help?

Take the battery cable off to reset it. you Must have pulled the abs relay.

How would you know if it is the magnetic clutch fuse and not the AC relay?

@@PhoRunner So, was the relay working intermittently? That's seems really odd that the relay worked sometimes, but I'm not a pro. I just switched my AC relay with my fog one. The ac was the same Vietnam one that you showed. Both fog lights and AC are working (parked at home). I'll see if it's working over the next week. Ours was shutting down while sitting in traffic on the highway, not cool.

As it heats up under the engine bay, the metal can move slightly making the relay not function. My ac has been working flawlessly so far this whole summer

Buy a can of r134a from Walmart and pump some in. Should be a blue cap on passenger side engine bay area above the belt to pump some more in. Don’t overdo it but do it until it feels cold out the vents. Check other KZbin videos.

Just shake and pump. Have someone sit inside and ask if it’s cold. A gauge is nice but that’s the true test hehe. Thermometer on vent helps too. 40-50f is what you would want coming out

These cars use some blender/mixer. You may have a malfunctioning one. Another issue could be it's low on R134a. You can try recharging by yourself with a can from walmart to see if that helps it. I would try this first before going to the stealership :).

Mine still isn't working. System is still charged. Anything else to check before going with a new compressor? My mdx only has 94k on it.

Check if the fan/compressor kicks on when you hit the AC button. If not, try tapping the compressor (vehicle off) to see if the clutch is stuck. May mean you need a new compressor. Get an OEM one on rockauto and find a mechanic to put it in. The stealership will rob you!

Hello I had a question. My AC works in the back perfectly, but in the front it just blows air, (not cold at all just air and sometimes it’s hot air probably because of the engine). I really want to figure out how to fix it. The relay for AC from what I seen in the videos makes sure cold air blows, but the thing is it works in the back fine so that makes me think the relay isn’t the problem. What could it be

Maybe you have too little or too much. Try adding or removing some to see if it helps. Mine would kick in and off when overfilled.

Hmm shouldn’t break unless it’s not plugged all the way in. Try resetting it. Do your headlights not function anymore?

Usually at a stop, your fan should kick on as the temps rise. So maybe check the the temperature sensor as that tells the fan to come on. but the fan is supposed to be on when the ac is running so you shouldn’t be overheating unless you got air in your cooling system
