Avoid hammering the rotor to take it off. Use 2 - 8mm bold to remove rotor by tightening the bolts alternately until rotor is loose.
@njshift5 жыл бұрын
That’s overkill if your replacing the rotor. Using a dead blow hammer will do nothing to the rotor or hub.

3 years later, are you still liking these pads/rotors?
@ScrufsGarage2 жыл бұрын
Yes. They are wearing very well. No change in performance... when they are cold they need a little more pedal pressure. Once they are warm, they bite very well. And under heavy braking they have a bit of a moan noise, which might be a byproduct of the drilled rotors. No complaints though.

The brake grease is supposed to go on the caliper itself wherever the stainless steel pad clips touch the caliper. Rust forming on the caliper behind the clips can cause the clips to push away from the caliper and then bind the pads from sliding, especially in the "Rust Belt" areas of the country where snow and road salt are present. Grease should not go on the face of the clips that touch the pads as it will accumulate dirt/dust and potentially bind the pads from sliding easily across the clip. South Main Auto's brake job videos go into more explanation.

Wifes RDX has the dreaded rotor warp feel at 95K miles. Disassembled front brakes a couple of weeks ago and found the lower slide pin on the drivers side frozen. Cleaned it up lubed it and reinstalled it. Cleaned up both brakes in front. Still has the warp feel when you press firmly on the brakes. Pads are good, have about 30K on them; dealer replaced them at 65K miles. I noticed the pad spring is in the lower sets of holes in the pad, rather than the upper set of holes like you installed. Hmmm. Now I'm wondering if they were installed correctly at the dealership service.

nice video, thank bro! I notice you have a phone pairing and monitoring your camera when you were recording video. Is your camera a GoPro?
@ScrufsGarage4 жыл бұрын
Yes. Mine is an old GoPro Hero3+ I believe. It uses wifi to pair with my phone. Since the camera doesn't have a screen on the back, I can use the GoPro app on my phone to line up shots, plus start/stop recording. It works fairly well but running the camera wifi eats batteries very fast. I've thought about getting a new GoPro with the screen on the back, but I'm cheap, haha.

@@ScrufsGarage Thanks man! It's probably not worth it to throw extra money for a new GoPro with the screen on the back. Hows the brake dust? Do the rotors rust after a wash or rain?
@ScrufsGarage4 жыл бұрын
Very little brake dust. Pads seem to work best once they have a little heat in them. Rotors holding up well. Coating on the friction surface is removed the first time you apply the brakes. So the friction surface is bare steel, which will flash rust after washing or rain like any rotor. Not a big issue though.
@Emry112 жыл бұрын
@@ScrufsGarage All rotors rust since they are plain cast iron. The coated ones may last a bit longer but even they will rust eventually. That's why I don't spend the extra on the coated ones.

@mikepiechnik91092 жыл бұрын
If this is a continuous problem try replacing the rubber brake line. Why? Sometimes mechanics use brake line compression tools to seal off the line from draining fluids during brake jobs, and it can crimp the line preventing a full release of your brakes upon application . This was the case in my brother's truck. Just a thought :)
@Emry112 жыл бұрын
You need to get your parking brakes inspected and make sure they are not sticking to the rotors. To prevent this you need to use the P-Brakes on a regular basis for them not get crystalized.

Just a Honda Accord Yes it did get rid of the sequel. Though that was more a function of different pad shims than the pads themselves. Overall I’m happy with this setup but it does moan under hard braking. But they stop really well, especially once you get some heat in them.

I just did this job on same exact car. With new pads and rotors, now get loud groaning noise when going slow and hitting brakes, and when releasing pedal. Goes away after driving awhile...
@ScrufsGarage4 жыл бұрын
Hmm, there can be a variety of things that can cause a noise. Did you do a bedding procedure for the new pads and rotors? You might also check and make sure the brake pad clips are properly installed, and that the pads can slide smoothly. Any indication a caliper piston could be sticking? (sometimes if you see abnormal wear on the old pads, it can indicate a caliper piston sticking). And sometimes the noise may just be the nature of the brand of pads/rotors. For example, with the pads/rotors I used in this video, I get a slight brake moan under hard braking at lower speeds. Nothing is wrong, and they stop really well. Just the nature of the pads and rotors. Sorry I can't help more, but hopefully that gives you a few ideas to check.
