Cheers mate for the kind words. I only played a few sessions 1e, and I GM'ed it a few sessions as well, so it's the version I'm least familiar with.

Still got this from 1983. Gets a read every year even though I haven't played 1st Edition since 1987. Warhammer FRP came along and killed it. And hope you are all healthy now.

We're all healthy now, cheers for asking. I haven't played it since around 84-85, didn't have a regular group again until around 88-89, and by that time we were onto Shadowrun and AD&D 2e.

Thanks for the kind words, we're all better now, and waiting for the next illness, famine or plague of locusts to hit us.

This is still my favorite AD&D book. I got mine in 1980 when I was 12 and I spent an ungodly number hours just pouring over it again and again until I had it memorized. Had I put that much effort into scholastic studies, I could have been an attorney or a surgeon--but I won't complain, Dungeon Master is far more fun!

Lol, I know what you mean, the time I've spent on RPG's could have made me super knowledgeable in so many fields. But at least I'm an idiot who can have some fun :D

Never played this version myself, by the time I started playing 2E was out, but even so we started with D&D, not AD&D (which quite frankly was better for my pea brain). But it's always great to see how these games evolved throughout the years (someone should write a book about that). One quick correction: When you're talking about class levels, around the 8:30 mark, the XP table for the Cleric goes up to 11, BUT it says at the bottom that over that level the XP values are kept consistant: 225,000 points per level (starting at level 8, actually). So they just didn't want to make a table super long when that information was kind of redundant. Funny that from 9th level onwards the Cleric didn't get to roll more dice to add to his HP, just got a static +2/level.

The sad thing is, I actually realised as I was speaking that I'd made that mistake, but didn't correct myself as I thought no one would notice my slip up. Damn you and your successful Perception checks. :D
