You said that the T7V has better midrange...would it be better to get the T7V with the T10S, or would you just get the A8V and call it a day? While I don't do a ton of bass music, I want the full range, but I don't want to compromise on midrange clarity. If I get the 7+sub, would you say that the issues of level matching and phasing with a sub could outweigh the compromise of the 8s by themselves? Meaning is it worth the headaches of the 7+sub to get the better midrange response, or should I just stick with a simpler 8inch solution?
@FireWalkMusic Жыл бұрын
Hi, thanks for your mail. I didn't see this until now, but I'll reply here so that others might also benefit from reading the reply. Ribbon tweeters have many benefits compared to traditional dome tweets. They typically offer better detail but generally don't respond as well in their lower frequency limit. When you have a two-way monitor, the woofer serves as a "full tone" element, and smaller cones typically have a higher crossover than larger ones (naturally). Both the T7V and the T8V have the cutoff at 2600 Hz and the smaller 7" woofer probably responds better in the higher frequencies near the cutoff region than the larger 8" does, and overall I thought the T7V sounded a little bit better balanced. That said, for a medium-sized room you need something that can provide those lowest frequencies. The larger 8" monitors will make a huge difference there, and the difference in low-end extension will often be a bigger pro than the slight downside related to the midrange. Especially if the alternative is to use a subwoofer. I generally try to stay away from that because it's so difficult to get such as system perfectly balanced. I always prefer to get the low-end I need from my main monitors instead of using my sub. You can easily end up with too much bass, which will make it difficult to mix, and you can easily end up with thin-sounding mixes because while you mix, there seems to be plenty of bass thanks to the sub being a little bit too loud, when in reality there isn't enough low-end in the mix. Then there are issues related to the placement of the sub, phasing etc. I can't make the choice for you though. It all depends on what's most important to you: good low-end extension and balance, or the best possible midrange clarity.

Hello there, I have the KRK VXT 6’s at the moment, nice speakers but struggling with bottom end because of the cone size. I’ve been looking for a larger 8 inch speaker to remedy this but only have a smallish room. What are the actual acoustic problems encountered when using larger speakers in smaller rooms?
@FireWalkMusic4 жыл бұрын
To get lower frequencies, you need larger cones. The main problem is that lower frequencies need more space in order for the sound waves to propagate properly. With larger cones and small rooms, you'll tend to get a lot of bass build up and reflections which can cause more issues than it solves.

Hi , congratulations for your great tutorials ! I saw you have Yamaha HS8 which I also have for about 2 years . About a year ago I added the Yamaha HS8s subwoofer which at first seemed too much to my ears (I mix in a small room 3x4m ) , I had to adjust them very low , at about a quarter of their volume. However adding a sub it's very tricky to mix your songs , after several issues I had with my mixes I decided to invest in some calibration software , I chose Sonarworks and I'm completely satisfied with my mixes . Not only that everything sounds cleaner and balanced but I managed to bring my monitors & sub to 32HZ (at 0db according to Sonarworks results, 28hz(-3db) , 22 hz (-9db) which is insane!!!) . Now I use my sub at half of its volume and everything sounds so good , with Sonarworks you even have the chance to use their plugin (zero latency) in your DAW. You have the possibility to adjust some EQ and make presets to color the sound if you prefer something more agressive (kind of HI-FI for listening) or completely flat . After room acoustic treatment which I see you have I strongly recommend you HS8s subwoofer and Sonarworks which in my opinion is a MUST for true sound and good mixes . If you feel this is expensive there's is free software calibration software at www.roomeqwizard.com/ which I heard gives good results . Good luck and good mixes !

Hi, thanks, glad you liked it. Yes, I also have the HS8. A subwoofer can come in handy when it comes to those ultra-low frequencies. I actually have a 12" subwoofer as well, which I use occasionally just to check for problems in the super-low regions. However, with 8" monitors a subwoofer is not as essential as with smaller monitors. Most 5" monitors for example rarely go below 60 Hz or so, and in that case a subwoofer becomes much more important. The important thing to keep in mind when using subwoofer is to properly level match it with your monitors, and take into account the room acoustics etc, or it can make it difficult to properly judge the low-end in a mix. As you say, sonarworks reference 4 is also very useful, and highly recommended! I actually have a whole other video about it here: kzbin.info/www/bejne/eJmlnYeAi91msLc

There is no benefit from a wall directly behind the monitors. On the contrary, it only degrades the sound, especially rear-ported monitors like these, so it shouldn't be a problem. It's actually recommended to have ample distance to the rear wall. It's the overall size and shape of the room that will have the most impact on the sound, as well as what's in the room. Is it acoustically treated? Do you have large window surfaces etc.

The A7X is a whole different beast. Larger woofers generally provide better low-end extension but the A7X is better sounding overall, so it depends on what your needs are. If you're just into bass then the T8V might be the way to go, but if you want a monitor for mixing and mastering purposes for example then the A7X will offer better clarity and they will also have a flatter frequency curve.

Does it have a thumping or smooth bass
@FireWalkMusic4 жыл бұрын
The bass is very precise and smooth in my opinion. Very round and warm, which is why I like them. This should make them well suited for EDM and bass-heavy music in general. You won't typically hear those low frequencies on smaller monitors like 5" and such, which won't go below 50-60 Hz. With these, you get to hear that really low rumble that's always there, but usually not noticeable with smaller monitors unless you complement them with a subwoofer. However, there are issues with subwoofers as well. Mainly getting everything synced up properly, so if you have a large enough room, I think that 8" monitors are the best compromise.
@tarat79434 жыл бұрын
Would you recommend these for home recording studio? What would you suggest?

@@FireWalkMusic What would you consider a small room? (dimension wise)
@FireWalkMusic4 жыл бұрын
@@noname-cq9iy Well that will depend on who you ask, but in my opinion a 4x4 meter room is small. The shape of the room is also important. A rectangular room is better than a squared one, provided that you set up your desk and your monitors on the long end of the room. What's in the room also plays a role. For proper low end, the sound waves needs space to propogate, and in a small one it will just tend to build up and cause more issues than it solves. So for smaller rooms, it's better to go with smaller monitors and perhaps use a subwoofer in between to check the low end instead.

Hi, In my experience the krks tend to be a bit boomy and not as flat as they should have been. The low-end in particular feels a bit amplified, and that's not ideal for mixing. You want something that is as flat and transparent as possible. The hs8 delivers in that regard. They are flat and transparent, and they also have great low-end extention, which is ideal for edm and bass heavy music in general. :)

Hi, It's really difficult to choose between these two, which is why I still have both. The HS8 has a slightly rounder/warmer sound I think, while the T8V is more analytical and more precise in the high end especially, which should make them better suited for mixing and analytical work. The HS8's are probably better suited for listening to music overall, but the T8V's are probably better for mixing. There's also less ear fatigue with the T8Vs when mixing for long periods of time. I'm actually working on a new video now, comparing these two.

@FireWalkMusic3 жыл бұрын
@@Danychowdary Hi Daniel, I'm working on it. I just haven't had much spare time to work on videos lately, but it's coming. It's very difficult to compare these two because they are so similar in many ways. I'm actually having a hard time making up my own mind between these two. The T8V's sounds cleaner in the high-end. The low-end feels very similar between these two. The mid-range is where the most difference is. The T8V's has a higher crossover frequency due to the ribbon tweeter no doubt, so I the HS8 sounds perhaps a little bit more relaxed in the midrange. The HS8's sounds more HIFI like in many ways, so if you want something for listening to music as well as production then the HS8's might be the way to go. However, for mixing and mastering the T8V's might be a better choice because they sound more "analytical" in a way. They sound flatter ant truer in the high-end compared to the HS8's, which enables you to hear things you won't hear with the HS8's. However, high-end frequencies doesn't always sound great so some people therefore think they don't sound as good, when in reality it's just that they hear things they don't hear with the dome tweeter on the other monitor. Again, it's very difficult to choose between these. I think I prefer the midrange in the HS8's, but I prefer the high-end in the T8V's. The low end is basically the same I feel. I strongly recommend that you go to a shop and listen to both. We all have very different hearing and people prefer different monitors. A lot of people also have a kind of love/hate relationship with ribbon tweeters. Some people simply love them and others hate them, so again you really need to listen to both in order to be sure. Keep in mind that when investing in monitors, you're going to be stuck with them for a long time so you need to make sure you make the right choice.

I have a pair of KRK6s linked with a KRK10 Subwoofer...I've learned to mix very well with this setup however there are times due to ear fatigue that I will second guess myself. So I want to remove the Subwoofer altogether. Hence, why I have been saving to upgrade to 8" Monitors. I know Adam Audio is known to be top of the line and better than the yamahas traditionally, but how sure are you about the differences between them? I worry that the fact that "Adam audio coming out with an 8" Monitor FOR 100$ CHEAPER" just has to be too good to be true... and that this monitor sounds just as good or better than the hs8s? Please help clarify once more firewalk. Also I might even hold off on purchasing if you were to consider a comparison video of the the Adam and Yamaha Hs8s 🙏🏽💯🙏🏽

I believe they are based here in California and are a west coast company, but I've only heard great things about their initial products. Do you believe it'd be better to stick with a 2 Way monitor like Adam or yamaha from a more "known and trusted" company, rather than go for a 3 way from a slightly newer product line?
@FireWalkMusic4 жыл бұрын
You have some good and valid questions there. The HS8, which I also own, is considered to be among the best in this price range. Adam Audio is traditionally more known for high-end studio monitors. Not too long ago they launched the T series, which is designed to be more affordable, but they still feature the ribbon tweeter. In order to get the price down, they have obviously ignored things such as an illuminated logo in the front, a notched volume knob, and so on, and instead focused purely on the sound. I've been using these since October last year now, and to be honest, I've had a hard time figuring out which one I like the best. In terms of low-end extension, they seem to be evenly matched. The HS8 Seems to be able to play slightly louder, but that's way too loud for comfort anyway, so that's not really important. The more interesting thing is the clarity. I feel like the T8V's provide more clarity in the high mids and high end vs the HS8. They remain flatter up there, while the HS8 actually drops off slightly after about 10.000 Hz or so. For that reason, the HS8 will often sound a little bit "smoother" in the high end, and for that reason the HS8 can sometimes make your music sound better. However, that's not neccecarily a good thing when it comes to mixing. You want to hear what's in there, for better or for worse. And with that in mind, the T8V's probably delivers the naked truth more transparently than the HS8's. So the HS8 seem to have a nicer, more rounded sound in the high end, but the T8V's seem more transparent and clearer overall. Generally, with ribbon tweeters, people seem to be very divided. Some really love them and others hate them. part of the reason for that is that speakers with ribbon tweeters tend to have a higher crossover frequency too, which isn't always a good thing. I think the T8V's provide a good balance between solid and powerful low-end and high-end clarity. That said, some people will probably prefer the slightly smoother high end of the HS8. I guess it boils down to what your needs are. I recommend that you go to a store and listen to both of them before you make up your mind. Regarding a comparison video, this is actually something I'm planning on doing fairly soon. I should point out that I got these in October last year, and I've been using the T8V's since then. I still have the HS8's too though so I guess I'm still "making up my mind". All in all, I think the T8V is a really good monitor. It's very similar to the HS8 and just like the HS8, it should work very well for EDM and bass-heavy music in general. For very fine editing and such, where clarity is essential, they will probably outperform the HS8.

I have a large (home)studio (about 10 meters long and 5 meters wide) so I definitely want a pair with 8 inch woofers. What can you recommend when comparing these two brands? If you have suggestions from other brands, I also would like to hear it. The price isn’t an issue for me. Thanks 🙏 in advance.
@FireWalkMusic4 жыл бұрын
Thanks, glad you liked it. With a room that size, you should definitely go for 8". People have different hearing and therefore we prefer different monitors. Adam Audio is known for making high-end monitors, and the T-series all though it's intended to be a more inexpensive option still sound great. I've used these for many months now, and I think they have better high end clarity than many of the rivals, no doubt thanks to the ribbon tweeter which offers more surface area. A flat and neutral sound is ideal for mixing and mastering. It might not provide the most "exiting" sound like HIFI speakers, but it's better for displaying the naked truth so to say, which is what you want when mixing. I've tried many different monitors over the years, and some are coloring the sound more than others. I tested some KRK's a while back and found that they added too much low end and rolled off the highs a bit. This some times made music sound more exiting, but you don't really want that when mixing. If you can get a neutral mix that's tonally balanced then you know that it should sound good on most gear in most places, and that's why a neutral representation of the sound is so important, and I think the T8V's are very good at that. They also provide very good low-end extension, which negates the need for a subwoofer in most cases.

@FireWalkMusic3 жыл бұрын
That room is a bit small for 8" monitors, but it's hard to say for sure. It depends on what's in the room too, and if the option is to go with smaller monitors + a subwoofer then I usually always recommend going with the 8" anyways, simply because a subwoofer introduces more trouble than it solves most of the time since most people can't seem to balance the setup properly. The difference in the low-end extension between the 7" and 8" is like night and day actually. So if you CAN get away with an 8" then I would go for that. But again, I can't really say if it will work in your room or not. It also depends on what kind of music you make. Not all music requires 8" monitors, but if you produce EDM and bass-heavy music in general then there's nothing better than an 8" monitor for that (at least not in this price range)

Indeed! I made this review back in October, but since then the T8V has been sold out constantly. It was decided that we should wait to publish the review until they were back in stock. However, they seem to be very popular, because they're still sold out in a lot of places. Eventually, we just had to publish it anyway. I should point out that 5 months later, I'm still using these as my main monitors :D

Depends on the bedroom I guess. What if it's a master bedroom? :D

@@FireWalkMusic ha ha ha. If someone have a master bedroom, better invite some girls )) But seriously: 8 inches monitors will create a lot problems on the low frequencies. Becouse they generate sub frequencies (about 30-40 Hz) and without good acoustic equipment no point to use 8s in the bedroom This size perfectly fit for studios

@@funkerfogt1869 Yeah, most typical bedrooms are too small for 8" woofers. They're also typically not ideal for music production since they tend to have a lot of stuff in them, they're not always rectangular and there might be windows and all kinds of issues. Low-end needs space in order for the sound waves to propagate properly, so in very small rooms it's better to go with the T5V or the T7V's instead. However, if you do have a fairly large room then 8" is ideal with regard to low end. Most 5" monitors won't reproduce anything below 55-60 Hz or so. That means that you won't hear what's happening in the sub frequencies unless you also have a subwoofer, but that introduces problems of its own. With an 8" woofer you can hear down towards 33 Hz, which means that it becomes easier to mix since you can actually hear potential issues in the low end that you won't be aware of with 5" monitors. But as you say, if your room is too small and not treated then you might get bass buildup instead, which causes problems on its own. I will probably make a separate video later, about choosing the right monitors for different room sizes and shapes and so on. :)

@@FireWalkMusic It's going to be great video!!! P.S. Much depends on the janre which you produce and maybe you won't the band lower 50 Hz. For example: some EDM styles, REALLY do not need lower then 40-50 Hz G (49 Hz) G# (52 Hz) A (55 Hz) A# (58 Hz)- great and lower root notes for start. Becouse on the dancefloor too low frequencies sounds VERY VERY bad, it's like hum not like bass

@fu J TOO small bro! TOO! My room is 3 x 5 meters (+ 3 meters height) and my 5 inches Presonus E5XT sounds great! I think 6 inches is max for you room, no need 8!

People seem to have a love/hate relationship with ribbon tweeters. Some simply love them and others hate them. People also have very different hearing, which affects how they perceive sound, so different people will always disagree about which monitor is the best sounding one. Check out this video, and read the comments. You'll be surprised to see how everyone claim to hear different words: kzbin.info/www/bejne/fJKnmXWnap5roaM
