One of the biggest traits of Gilly that goes unnoticed is his fitness. He is a fine athlete who had to do the dual job of keeping & batting in almost every game which he did with ease. Never seen him dodgy in the field.

@@babylemonade2868 Loved it when Kaluwitharana and Jayasuriya started the game blasting every ball. Made the game soooo much more exciting, in changing it from a slow-moderate accumulation of runs to being a 50 over sprint. From memory that was a few years before Gilly came on the scene, but when he arrived he was an instant star.

Let's not forget how beautiful of a glove man Adam was. Technically him and Healy are the two best wicket keepers ever. Period. I had the pleasure & privilege of seeing Adam make his test debut at the Gabba v Pakistan, where he made a stunning 80 and took a load of catches. I'll never forget the 5 consecutive boundaries off Saqlain that lit up the joint. It was an emphatic 10 wicket win and SK Warne made a cool 87, hitting the ball as hard as any batsman in the world. I went to all 5 days of that test, sitting over 2nd slip in the stand watching legends Akram & Akhtar get completely dominated. Truly remarkable. Cheers to Adam and cheers to the game of cricket; a game for gentlemen and all nations. Peace & Respect - Pence Effersham

He changed the parameter of wicket keeping. Earlier Wicket Keepers used to be happy only keeping wickets but Gilly made sure they learn to bat.

Steve Waugh gets a bad rap as captain. People like Ian Chappell say he was just blessed with a good team. I think that is false. He wasnt the best on field tactician but as a strategist he was awesome. He said how he wanted the team to play a certain way and made gutsy decisions - Gilly to open and dropping Warne for that key test in the West Indies are good examples. It says something when players like Justin Langer said they would walk through walls for him. Great leader.

Steve Waugh had put together probably the best squad ever going into 1999/2000. The Australian team was pretty hard to beat in that era. Hard to believe that it was over 20 years ago.
