Actually, if you live in a Suburban area, if you walk around in the middle of the night, you have less chance of getting kidnapped and raped and murdered than if you took a walk in a crowded place full of people. Reason being: It's usually very cold, very dark outside, and there are no people around meaning kidnappers/rapists/murderers wouldn't be able to get anyone would they? Hence why most crimes happen in the day time in crowded places like Busch Gardens, Disney World, the Stores, etc because it's easier to take victims when their guard is down, and the weakest are easiest to spot.

I'm 27 now and I still don't understand why so many schools all over the world still force the outh to get up so early. When I could start at 9 a.m. it was simply life-changing. In 9th grade and later I used to go to sleep at 8 p.m. just so I could get some sleep... after finishing school at 5 or even 6... School ruined my social life and hobbies just because I couldn't get enough sleep.

In the UK, schools don't start until 9am and even then, the classes don't start until almost 10... It's been observed and confirmed that students wouldn't mind starting later even if it meant finishing later. In France, I believe schools finish at 5pm but they start at 10-11 am so where is a good middle ground for you?

Haha I wish it was like that…I'm a French student and in Secondary school, the average day starts at 8AM and finishes at 5PM (but it can finish even later though), except on Wednesday, where there's no classes in the afternoon for students to do extra scholar activities (sports, art, I don't know). However, in some high schools we can have classes Saturday morning, and if you do what we call "options" (like Latin, Greek, other languages like Chinese or Russian), you can have these classes Wednesday afternoon

I was so lucky that my elementary school started at 8:50 in the morning every day. Then, when I got to middle school, I started at 7:50 in the morning. Cats do have facial expressions! Half-lidded eyes for bliss/happiness, wider than normal eyes for alertness/fright, ears back for anger/annoyance, whiskers forward for interest/curiosity, and a slow blink means they have affection for whatever they’re blinking at. I've done research on the school thing, so I knew we (teenagers) need more sleep. That's probably a big reason why we're all depressed and anxiety-ridden. I think it might've been Adam who told me that schools start earlier now, especially high/middle schools, because the school systems don't get enough money for the bus-power it would take to bring us ALL to school at the same time, including elementary kids, so they had to stagger the bus times, sending older kids to school first for reasons unknown to me. It pisses me off, but what can I do? Petition the school? I'd be lucky to get start times kicked back a half hour, let alone switch everyone around so the younger kids who DON'T need as much sleep and can also get to sleep earlier go first.

When I was a kid in the 80's, my parents had a bright idea to sell their business and move to the Upper Penninsula of Michigan. We lived in a cabin on a lake, but it was a nice cabin, not Unibomber style. I was in 4th grade and hindsight 20/20, I don't think it was a thought out idea. I was the only student within miles and I had to catch a bus at 5:00 in the morning. I was the first kid on the bus and the last kid off at 6:00pm! Talk about major sleep deprivation!

In Florida in the US, several of its high schools and middle schools didn't start until 9:00-9:20. They started doing this about 14 years ago. At least it was that way in Levy and Marion county.

Not getting enough sleep due to school starting early is not an excuse unless youre forced to stay awake for an excessive amount of time. Just go to bed earlier. Your body will eventually adapt to your rhythm.

My brother and I went to different high schools and I could tell the difference with start times. My classes would start at 8:30 and his would either start at 7:45 or 8:00. I was more awake and I actually spent time in class learning. From what he told me he would go to homeroom just to sit there and do nothing. At one point they added 30 minutes to his day by tacking 15 minutes to the morning and afternoon claiming that it was because they wanted to take some school days off the schedule. Public schools should take a hint from colleges (8:00am college classes are only for the desperate) and other countries who avoid having such early classes because they have actually taken this into account.

On my previous semester, I was given a schedule of a PM class. First period starts at 10:30 AM and ends at 7:30 PM. I never felt tired at school during those times. School isn’t to educate people, it’s to create a standardized citizenry with a safe degree of knowledge about the power sources under which they will live their lives that will assure compliance to them, while assuring that the citizens will not have the necessary critical thinking skills to figure out that they live in a new form of feudalism and that they will spend their relatively meaningless lives serving lords, princes and kings (albeit by different names). In other words you were inculcated in the compulsory education system so that you will be a good worker, and that boss wants you showing up on time for your shift no matter what time it starts so get used to it early (the biology of puberty and circadian rhythms notwithstanding).
