He was deeply racist. So racist he referred to the Civil Rights Act as, and i quote, "the negro bill". In fact he pioneered the democrats current tactics used to keep blacks down, giving them quote "just enough to quiet them down but not enough to make a difference" because "these negroes are getting pretty uppity these days and that's a problem because they have now what they never had before, the political pull to back up their uppityness". Yes, these are direct quotes from LBJ himself while discussing the civil rights act.

You can actually Cherry-pick any quote throughout the ages to refer to a whole party as Racist and turn things on their head: Abraham Lincoln Quote “I will say then that I am not, nor ever have been in favor of bringing about in anyway the social and political equality of the white and black races - that I am not nor ever have been in favor of making voters or jurors of negroes, nor of qualifying them to hold office, nor to intermarry with white people; and I will say in addition to this that there is a physical difference between the white and black races which I believe will forever forbid the two races living together on terms of social and political equality. And inasmuch as they cannot so live, while they do remain together there must be the position of superior and inferior, and I as much as any other man am in favor of having the superior position assigned to the white race. I say upon this occasion I do not perceive that because the white man is to have the superior position the negro should be denied everything.” by: Abraham Lincoln (1809-1865) 16th US President Source: Fourth Debate with Stephen A. Douglas at Charleston, Illinois, September 18, 1858 (The Collected Works of Abraham Lincoln edited by Roy P. Basler, Volume III, pp. 145-146.)
@killer133248 жыл бұрын
Key Of The Wolf i know about lincoln AND his attempts to get blacks removed from the US entirely. But fact is the republican party in general was made up of abolitionists. Also democrats fought to keep slavery, to keep jim crow, to keep lynchings a thing for as long as possible. If you don't believe me on that last one, remember FDR's new deal? To get it to pass, he made a deal with senate democrats to block all anti-lynching legislation that hit his desk.
@ManTheLost8 жыл бұрын
Jormungand13324 Was, not is. (Though I love how people use this reverse logic.) There used to be Conservative Democrats, there USED to be Liberal Republicans. That's not the case now, and so, people (Most often), ignorantly confuse the terms and then go "Woohoo!" while ignoring and skipping by the present and not realizing they don't even know what they are arguing. Kind of covered in the video, itself. :)
