Yes, these are direct quotes from LBJ himself while discussing the civil rights act.

Key Of The Wolf i know about lincoln AND his attempts to get blacks removed from the US entirely. But fact is the republican party in general was made up of abolitionists. Also democrats fought to keep slavery, to keep jim crow, to keep lynchings a thing for as long as possible. If you don't believe me on that last one, remember FDR's new deal? To get it to pass, he made a deal with senate democrats to block all anti-lynching legislation that hit his desk.

Well, about Julius Caesar, Adam. He's more...moderate and actually competent. He revived entire Populous faction after their demise from Grachii brothers' death but pay homages to aristocrats on the other. The wall builder goes to Hadrian and Antonine (both being two of Five Good Emperors to boot) but it's more of a border checkpoint in Scotland and the latter found out that not all Scots are evil and build another wall to separate friendlier tribes from less friendly ones. The tyrant part is actually 1. his political ambition that involved overthrowing a conqueror in Celtic lands to honor the vows even if it goes against him being declared as the Friend of Rome 2. conflict between him and Senate for good (land reforms) or ills (granting him dictatorship for life) 3. Like any modern remakes, the portrayal tended to be based on the contemporary issue (Orson Welles' version was made during the rise of Nazism and play acting as a destruction of proto-Fascists).

LBJ was pretty liberal (civil rights, war on poverty). Adam didn't exactly mute Johnson's negative marks. I would say he was just telling it like it is with a little humor. Clearly, he doesn't particularly like Trump, but I would not say you have to be a liberal to dislike Trump. More than half the nation did not vote for Trump - and before you get into it with me, in addition to Clinton, Johnson and other lesser known candidates got votes too.

Troubled Sole Johnson was only liberal in his actions and it was only because it benefitted him politically. Had Nixon won the election against Kennedy (and avoided getting his head blown off) it could have very well been him who signed the Civil Rights act and the Republicans would have been the ones to lose the South and would go on to become the liberal party.

Keep in mind that the notorious El BJ's first stay as president wasn't even chosen by the people. He was just carrying out the rest of JFK's term after the man was assassinated. Granted, he did win the next election, but this was partly due to the consistent trend of always having the incumbent president (if it's their first term) be the shoe-in for the candidate of their party for the next presidential election. This isn't news to me, and I don't think it should surprise most of us. I always knew that politicians threw insults like punk kids back in the day. What upsets us is that we thought we were BETTER than that by now. The bar was meant to be raised. Now it's been thrown back down, and Trump and his supporters seem to celebrate the collapse of standards of maturity which we've come to expect from our leaders. Precedent is no excuse for regression.
