This is a good drum solo to start with, but it's pretty old and he's developed so much in the last few years. Watch one of the ones from the recent Canada tour and it will knock you out. He uses a looper to beatbox, sing and harmonize with himself - and when he sings he's a tenor. He really is amazing.

I have no idea, Daniel, but KZbin has streamers who are watching global beatbox championship currently. I find it hard to listen to alot of it at once, and prefer Adam's performances anyway. Please do some more acappella reactions. They are so alive in their harmonies and presentations. Also, if you could check out Marcin Patrzalek, Polish acoustic guitar phenom I would love to hear your reaction to this master composer and performer. Till next time

Love Adam Rupp & his insane talent. He is the best out there in my opinion. He simulates the sounds of a drum perfectly. Many drummers have commented on how good he is. He sounds so realistic. His breath control must be crazy. I heard he makes the sounds both while inhaling & exhaling. This was a few years ago & hard to believe but he is even better now. Adam is the glue that holds Home Free together. He is their secret weapon which other a cappella groups can't match.

Before I discovered Home Free, a cappella music and beat boxing were nowhere on my radar. Now, I cannot get enough Home Free and especially Adam Rupp's beat boxing/vocal percussion performances. I have watched his various videos hundreds of times and never get bored. He is mesmerizing and electrifying Believe it or not, he has gotten even better since this video. He uses a looper and creates what I call "beat boxing symphonies" that are phenomenal. Thank you for the great reaction.

Years of playing the trumpet helped him on the breath control. This one is from 2015. There are later ones (2021-2022, the second part the Dive Bar Saints tour, coming back off of quarantine) that show how much his technique has advanced. Now he does more layering; recording one sound and playing it on loop as he adds a new sound, and so on. It sounds great but this one is still my favorite. Another beatboxing number of theirs to watch is 9 + 5 Beatboxing Breakdown which is in a concert setting, but I say watch their video for 9 + 5 first which is acted out in an office setting. Same song, different approaches. Okay...addition. There is no beatboxing in their wonderful video for Helplessly Hoping by Crosby, Stills & Nash. Adam joins the others in song and it sounds so good!

When my family went to see HOME FREE in 2019, Tim talked about the skeptics in the audience and then told everyone to ask the front row, which my family was in, cause we've all been showered. LoL

He's a master at circular breathing. He majored in trumpet performance in college. 👍😉 Also helps with a lot of the sounds as he is triple-tonguing. He's nothing short of amazing! He also has done a Michael Jackson bit where he's beatboxing, vocalizing notes, and dancing to "Billie Jean" at the same time! Lol He's gotten quite a bit better since this was recorded, too!! And added a lot of sounds/instruments to his repertoire! Don't know if you've heard their "Sea Shanty Medley", but in it he keeps an increasing tempo throughout the songs, does tom tom drums that sound awesome, makes the sound of the waves hitting against the ship, and does freaking castanets!!! Oh, he sings in a gorgeous high tenor voice (listen to a bit in "How Great Thou Art"), but actually has one heck of a range. When he's doing the no-monica or dropping the bass, etc, he's actually vocalizing that!

I'm not sure if you know this, but he is self-taught. In one of the videos from his home, he shows us the first book he used to teach himself. There is also a new one that was uploaded at the end of July 2022. Don't forget to add this to your Home Free playlist, too. And this doesn't even show his skills with other instruments that we see in some of the videos - harmonica (Ain't Goin' Down; Man of Constant Sorrow - among others) and castanets (Sea Shanty Medley) to name just a couple. He does sing with the guys, usually as a tenor between Rob and Austin, but this video - especially with the horn in the outback and dropping the bass near the end - shows his low range, too. His wide range is often overlooked.

my lowly opinion is that much of the beatboxing i have had chance to hear is all sorts of noise replicating things that are not tied to vocal music performances and nothing against their efforts. Adam Rupp's beatboxing is very practical and often unique to their performance and helps edify their presentation and ambiance to their interpretation of the songs they bring to their audience. He is a difference maker!! Thank you for reviewing and providing insight with your reaction.

Yes he sings. Yes he has around a 5 octave range. How Great Thou Art shows off his ultra high (1st soprano+) range with him doing the high-high "ooh's" behind Austin's verse/chorus and refrain. They made a docu series on YT on the history of the group, great content. You should check it out.

He has a fantastic clear tenor voice. This is an older drum solo, believe it or not, he's improved it. He has won contests and now you know why. He is so incredibly talented. He can play the drums in real life. He taught himself so that he can make it sound more realistic. He also plays other instruments...self-taught. Very talented and very humble pretty much sums him up. WOW!!!

Adam has a really sweet tenor voice that we get to hear every so often (How Great Thou Art, My Country Tis of Thee, The Driver). The best example of his singing voice being clearly on display on YT is near the end of Home Free's "Guilty Pleasures" videos. The "hilariously derailed" versions are even more fabulous for days when a laugh break might be needed 🤣

This was in 2015 or early 2016. He has perfected his craft quite a bit since then, each concert we make it to he has changed his program. Better and better each time we see him. There are a few of the newer routines out there. We were lucky enough one time to sit on the front row in an older venue with a low stage. We had a birds eye view of him working and he works Hard !!! His throat is moving all the time.

The vibration from those low notes shake things loose in those old theaters. It adds to the experience. The Palace in Greensburg was built in about 1926. It’s beautiful but looks like there is a lot of old stuff up in those rafters. Some of the venues that I’ve attended their concerts in have wooden seats and floors like The Mule House in Tennessee. When Tim and Adam hit those low notes it vibrates through your feet all the way through you. 🥰🤣

Adam is a freak of nature as they call him. I don’t know how he breathes either. He’s a trumpet player and people mention circular breathing so he’s breathing in and out I guess. See NO reverb effects. Now you see why he is the absolute best! And he has a gorgeous voice! I don't think I've seen you smile so much in any video as this one. Now check out American Pie with Don McClean. Adam recorded his track in one take. It's a loong song and because he went hard on the drums and straight into harmonizing someone said he was so lightheaded when he finished he almost passed out. As for your question about which was cheaper to hire a drummer or a beat boxer. Beat boxers are good but don't sound nearly as realistic as Adam so I guess it would depend on what kind of quality and sound you wanted. Subscribed because of this reaction. As young as you are I want to watch as you really start to enjoy listening to the music without having to analyze every nuance because there for bit during this video you were simply engrossed before you remembered to analyze and it's perfectly alright to lose yourself in the music for a while. It's going to be a fun journey following you down the rabbit hole that is Home Free

When watch the Home Free live videos you'll notice they always use hand held microphones - never the little headphone ones that a lot of singers use. Just my guess but I think it's because they can get more and better vocal effects by moving the microphone than they could with the little headphone things (I'm sure there's a name of them & you doubtless know what it is!).
