The mystery of the bezel markings explained: When you go on a dive you align the pip of the bezel with the minute hand and the makings on the bezel tell you how much time has elapsed, since you started the dive. The red zone on the bezel usually between the pip and the 15 or 20 minute mark indicates the time you can safely dive below a certain depth without having to make decompression stops. The air from a scuba tank is at higher pressure than the surrounding environment, so that you are still able to breathe with a large body of water pressing on you from all sides. When you resurface too quickly the added pressure can lead to a build up of gas bubbles in your bloodstream which can cause decompression sickness and even lethal embolisms. The longer you stay at greater depth the higher the risk for DCS occuring. 15 - 20 minutes is seen as the safe limit you can stay at depth. Any longer and you have to make decompression stops on your way up .That is also why the bezels of ISO certified dive watches only rotate counterclockwise, so if you knock it out of its set position by accident it will give you a shorter time readout, better safe than sorry.
@ROSCOLUX3022 жыл бұрын
great information! I always wondered why the bezel didnt act as a dive timer, and why the red zone wasnt at the end of the timer

It's cool seeing Adam and Michael enthusiastic about watches. It's just weird that the camera didn't zoom in on the watches as they discussed specific details and they didn't film some shots of just the watches so we can see what they're talking about. acs197 critiquing this video isn’t about being snooty or a gatekeeper. It’s just not a video that is what it claims to be. Geeking out over watches necessitates some level or watch geek-ness. As a Watch guy, I found this video painful… Two guys who are extremely knowledgeable, but speaking about a topic they both don't seem to know very much about!

As a guy who likes watches but us at the VERY beginning of a collection and having VERY little knowledge about them, I found their discussion really interesting. But I did not like that nobody thought to do close ups of any of the watches. I would have loved to see the 24 hour watch or Michael's old one. When your talking about and/or showing something small in any way you should show a close up that's just proper filming

I own a Seiko automatic timepiece and it’s very nice but recently I have been a little obsessed with the g shock community. On my Seiko automatic I typically lose about 10 seconds a week which to me is kind of annoying so I went out and sprung for a g shock watch that features atomic timekeeping and solar power. I am totally fascinated by atomic timekeeping and knowing that my watch is ticking in sync with the atomic clock in Fort Collins blows my mind.

Good lord the comments section of this video is so negative. I’m not a watch guy but I love Michael and Adam and seeing them talk about something they enjoy is great to me. They don’t have to know everything about watches to enjoy them. Lighten up people. Also Michael didn’t “throw” Adam’s watch. He just sat it down and it made a noise.

That Omega tank might just need a bit of a service, it sounds like the oil is starting to gum up in the bearing jewels. I'd estimate a price around $600 for a complete run through. You could also opt for a restoration but that would exceed $2000.
@MrGrentch7 жыл бұрын
I wouldn't go for a restoration. A service should suffice. Too often a restoration means over polishing the case and throwing a redial in, which will halve the value of the watch(at least).
@pyro13247 жыл бұрын
Yeah, personally I love when you can see the patina. But others prefer the factory finish, watches usually carry more than a monetary value anyways.

There is a watch that you should check out called the Vostok Amphibian. It is not expensive and not perfectly made or accurate. The case design however is very mechanically interesting as a diver and a tear down video may be fun for many people.
