+Ouroboros I've helped make costumes before. Convention in florida. Instead of a freezer pack itself. The person on their waist (inside the costume) had a few bottles of water, a couple cold ones and a couple iced ones. So throughout the day they could drink the liquid ones, and the ice ones would gradually melt. Bottom of the insulated lunch box that the bottles wer ein was pulled out, screened over, and had a couple CPU fans in it chilling the whole inside of the costume. Apparently it still wasn't enough so halfway through the con, about 6 more CPU fans were installed circulating air around the head. Though the little umbrella on Totoro would have gone a long way to shading the interior.
@danielkoene8 жыл бұрын
Linkxsc I could suggest to add a duct for fresh outside air. Thought I'd guess the comic on floor is pretty toasty anyway with all those people.
@linkxsc8 жыл бұрын
Most setups I've seen do cycle air from the outside. But that only works so well in Floridian summer heat. A source of cold and hydration is definitely necessary.

This, for starters, is the evolution of the revenant costume and considering how toughtful with his designs adam can be I would doubt that he just decided to make this costume on the fly. He surely didn't pick his materials in one evening nor did he design the costume withouth some research, seeing as he loves that movie and wouldn't want to make a bad costume. We know he has spent years improving or resesearching some of his props and i don't think he just woke up one day with this design ready. If anything, he went fast with the "construction" because of the previous preparations. We will see when we have that video online...
@paraxo71928 жыл бұрын
If you watch the build video he actually says he'd been doing little plans in his head for weeks, thinking about what material he would need and such, and it only took one day to build because of how prepared he actually was this /one/ time

Adam Savage is THE man. I wish I could be him when I grow up, but that's just a wish because I'm neither a genius nor do I love studying science and math.
@OrigamiMarie8 жыл бұрын
The funny thing is that he sort of backed into the science & math stuff. I've seen some videos where he talks about it. They were pretty inexperienced at making precise, likely-to-work-first-time-or-even-twentieth-time stuff in the beginning of the run of Mythbusters. There's sort of a meta story arc across all of Mythbusters' run, which is them getting better at designing experiments and doing things well in the first couple of tries (a lot of which is hidden, but you can tell it's happening because they get to try trickier stuff with more expensive retries). He's said many times on camera that what they set out to do was try to determine if stuff could possibly be true or not, and they sort of figured out experimental design and science by trial and error (science is just writing it down, right? -- well, also making it repeatable/predictable). So . . . you may not get a TV show. But you can kind of point your hobbies in the direction of making things, or finding out how the world works, or whatever is interesting. And getting better at anything is a kind of science of its own (try something, see if it works, decide how to do better, repeat). I've found the Tested build (especially the older ones) pretty inspirational. I've started trying to tell myself that if the internet is boring, that means it's time to go try to make something myself. At least that's kind of how I see it, I could be wrong, I'm just a stranger on the internet.
@yam-ingtonjr76068 жыл бұрын
a very wise stranger
@ArrrDude8 жыл бұрын
Ha! Genius, math, science and even money... such things help, but are absolutely unnecessary, you can do quite a lot only using basic math, cardboard that somebody else was gonna throw out, and the colective experience that the internet provides (You just gotta ask in the right places, like most hobby specific forums) which ends up becoming experience that you can use in future projects. You just need to want to make something that you like or are interested in, the motivation and willingness to do so and, of course, that damn limiting factor: Time.

You should make a radish spirit costume

Kelly Green Or Haku as a dragon, even though it would need two people, probably, or some creative enginering, maybe back feet or front feet that can stand up, a kind of inner skeleton and some bendable cloth material, like the colored, foldable cloth tubes children get when they're young, which they can crawl through.

Absolutely one of my favorite Japanese movies. If you take a cycling trip into the mountains in rural Japan (lived here for 20+ years), there are areas that have the same feel as this movie even today. I would advise watching it in Japanese with English subtitles. I felt I couldn't catch the atmosphere in the English dubbed version. Spirited Away is another Ghibli movie that is a masterpiece, imho.

James Pratt was going to suggest Spirited Away 😁❤❤ omg. I foresee a Miyazaki movie night this weekend!

I'm starting to think Adam would get less attention if he just went as himself.

The first time I watched My neighbor Totoro I also watched Spirited away. Two great movies on one night, and Adam Savage has made costumes for both of these movies.
