From what I understand about taxidermy, at least from what I picked up through osmosis as a kid, the taxidermy eyes are usually meant to be used alongside what is essentially sculpting clay to mold features like eyelids, wrinkles, and so on, so that they don't look so... comedic, on the finished product. The clay really gives some much-needed shaping that I don't think easily translates to fabric or even thermal plastics. The cut in the fabric achieves a similar, and very suitable effect, especially for keeping the suit light-weight.

It is isn't it?! One of my favorite parts was how Adam always showed his tiny tips and shortcuts he learned over the years. He used to explain it in detail but now they managed to just show us these tiny things. For example, him having a wheel round stool so he can adjust the height without having a big chair in a small space. I enjoyed this video very much! Also note that he has racks and boxes for everything but his laptop is just upside down in a container!
@Federico847 жыл бұрын
isn't the head too small compared to the size of the body?
@divine3086 жыл бұрын
Ikr and the body isnt that tall grizzly bears average 8 feet tall when standing on there hind legs this guy in the costume is like 6 feet in the costume and the head should be like 5 times bigger. And a polar bear costume may look cooler the average polar bear height is 9 through 12 feet tall when standing there way bigger than grizzly bears.
@RetroMonkey19996 жыл бұрын
Also the neck should have draped farther over the body so it blended better. And he kind of ended up with a cool back hump that wasn't continued to the neck.

Aiming for "photo real" is hard, even taxidermy often tends to miss that final little piece. Looking forward to see if there will be improvements made to the face in the coming years :) It's possible that you could have gotten closer to that real feel by altering the color of the fur a bit more.
@Qwicksilver8 жыл бұрын
I agree. Aiming for a photo-realistic bear is really difficult. One thing i noticed that Adam might want to do for further improvements is enlarge the size of the bear's head. Because he's such a big bellied bear, the head looked out of proportion either due to its short fur or small overall size.

It’s not a furry because it’s not an anthro character it has no human characteristics so it can’t be a furry

kendraklopfenstein well it stands on two legs... And he's talking in the bear. But no he's not a furry because I don't think he wants to be one.

Adam , I would love to see you recreate George Barrows iconic gorilla suit. Last I heard it was currently in the archive at UCLA's film school looking a bit worse for wear. Since this project requires the apex of skill, I can't think of anyone more up to the task. Of course if you would need to recruit a partner in this venture, I think Mike Hill could create the perfect facial twin for Mr. Barrows masterpiece. I really love all your presentations. Thank you !

Love the reactions of some of the pedestrians. "Nope, I'm not going to look at the strange guy dressed as a bear. I'll just be going on about my business."

I love this, I just think it would look a little better if the head was closer to the body. However, I am not the one building it, so I can't be sure what's possible. Looking forward to your next creation!

Well he's like 50, so probably not. But you never know.
@kimberlygray90456 жыл бұрын
Sunnixx Actually not real. Some like to keep mascot suits/ cosplay animal suits different from fursuits due to the stigmas against the furry fandom but they're really just a subsection.
@GammaMAXXdotcom6 жыл бұрын
I wouldn't normally assume that someone over the age of 50 would know what that is, but given Adam knows quite a bit about cosplay and anime I would say at the very least it's likely he knows what a furry is. But what really convinces me that he probably knows what furries are is that in his TED talk he talks about how cosplaying gives the wearer a way to become another character that creates an immersive experience between the cosplayer and the onlooker, which most fursuiters will tell you that's why they do it. Given how positively Adam has talked about cosplaying and why he thinks it's a good thing, I personally believe he knows very well what furries are.

All I have to say is at 22:58 it was a jaw dropping experience for that there bear costume
@kameronbelcher3 жыл бұрын
Okay so he seemed to be going for realism somewhat but he hit it out of the park with character, this suit is perfect as is. When I saw the clips of Adam walking down the street in the costume I could picture a grungey modern sitcom with that bear as the protagonist and no one questions him being a bear. Something like Bojack Horsemen or Wilfred. Incredible work, I'm going to script a story for your bear just for fun

Noses on bears in wild do have imperfections from fights, and sun burns, so if you make it perfect it'll look fake. His lower jaw is too thick. Cheeks are more muscular. Go to Juneau Alaska and you can get up close to seeing them fatten up on the Mendenhall Glacier bear viewing outside. You'll be right next to them & they're so focused on feeding on fish they don't notice you. They built a wonderful bear walk path suspended above them, so it's bear proof.
