After Adam finished his epic spacesuits build this past summer, he decompressed from that months-long project with a return to his ongoing Ghostbusters costume improvements. And that meant resuming work on his lightweight wearable replica of the Ecto goggles he's building from scratch. It starts with painting and dressing his vacuum-formed shells and them outfitting them with hand machined knobs and lenses. Here's how Adam got this essential piece of Ghostbusters costuming ready for his incognito at New York Comic Con!
Adam vacuum forming his Ecto Goggles: • Adam Savage's One Day ...
Adam wearing these goggles in his Ghostbusters cosplay: • Adam Savage Incognito ...

If one of you fine folks over there at Tested gets a moment, can you ask Adam (and then share here!) what tool/set-up he used to put those snaps into the straps? I've been looking for something to do that on a project and I really don't even know where to start. I may not be able to get the same thing he's using, but it would at least give me a starting point.

@@Bad_Wolf_Media It looks like he is using a Press-N-Snap. If you Google that or Snap Kit or Snap Pliers you will find a bunch of different ones at a variety of price points.

This is about the most subtle weathering job we’ve ever seen from Adam. No rust, dust, crust, or slapping with chains…just subliminal hints of use, of used-ness. Nice.

In response to the opening talk Adam. A great man once said; "Really if we are all going to be honest with ourselves I have to admit that achieving the end of the exercise was never the point of the exercise to begin with was it?" You. It was you mate. That quote from your ted talk has stuck with me for over a decade and i still revisit it whenever im feeling creatively drained.

You could have a live camera feed going in your cave and I'd have it on 24/7 just to hear the sounds of work being done. That alone simply inspires me to work on my own projects vs. them getting half way done then losing steam b/c I really have no idea what I'm doing most of the time.

I spent two years working on a model of a wooden tall ship, and when I had done my "editing passes" and installed the model in its case, it came time to clean my workspace and take the plans down off the wall... and yeah, I felt that. I really enjoyed the process of this thing coming into existence, and seeing the plans come down really drove home that that process was finished. And talking to a few older gentlemen who have multiple such builds under their belts, I learned that they had felt the same thing too, several times. So it's not weird to hear that such a major focus for you can create bittersweet feelings once it's done.

I just watched an Adam Neely (*bass) video where he goes over the feeling of depression/emptiness after a big gig where you spend a lot of time prepping for it. When it’s over, there’s a feeling of being lost. After putting so much effort and energy into something and feeling all the highs of completion/success, the pendulum swings the other way to the dark side. His recommendation was to immediately start to look toward the next project to minimize those feelings. It’s a pretty common thing, but there are ways to mitigate it. Knowing is half the battle. 👍

Always great seeing how happy Adam is when he is working on a project that he loves. Though one thing surprised me, the fact that he did not make the lens housings actually move like they would do from sourced camera parts. (Or be able to source a similar looking set from old stock.). As the Leader of the Capital Ghostbusters of Ottawa, Ontario, Canada, I approve of this One Day Build!

This video seems more 'Real' to me, I'm not saying the others are fake but it's just this particular video really speaks to me as a maker. I really enjoyed seeing a side of you that I've not seen before. You clearly show how much you care about projects when it gets you a bit down when a project is completed. I myself feel the same way with some projects, I'm happy when something is complete but to then not have anything to go back to once it's done can be hard. I really enjoyed this video Adam, thank you for showing us a different perspective on building and making. All the love to you brother. Iron Warrior Cosplay. :)

Post-Race Blues is what runners or triathletes call that "down" feeling. Completing something big that you have poured yourself into leaves you feeling empty. The number one way to try to mitigate the blues is to set another goal to look forward to, ex. another race or project.

Suggestion: You should look into a scissor knurling tool. It applies pressure on two knurling wheels top and bottom and pressure is controlled by a thumb screw. It alleviates the side pressure on the workpiece. I have never had very good luck with a side pressure tool like this, but I also do diamond pattern knurling more than straight line.

You know, I think I'd really like to see Adam to a project where he's basically handed a hero prop from a film and told "Ok, we need you to make another hero quality standin of this prop, as well as a stunt version, and about 10 more backward quality level copies of it" Just to see how he tackles that sort of duplication. Cos I feel like that's a lot of what some guy working in the proper department of a movie would do.
