Adam's latest build taps into his love for Studio Ghibli films, a bit of modelmaking, and in-camera practical effects as he constructs a stunning display inspired by one of his favorite Miyazaki films. It's a slow burn of a build as Adam gradually reveals his sketched out plans; the result is a mesmerizing combination of light and movement that is beautiful to behold!

@notfeedynotlazy 3 жыл бұрын
@@IsardPragmatique93 Sorry, pal, I usually am against arguing online, but I have to draw the line somewhere. Saying that Nausicaa is not a well-known movie just plain doesn't work. Dude, Nausicca is THE most well known Miyazaki movie. Is the one that led to the foundation of Studio Ghibli (it is considered a Ghibli film because Ghibli owns the rights). It's the one ranked as one of the greatest films ever made. If you ask anyone "tell me three Ghibli films", it will 99% of times be "Nausicaa and two others" (with the other two often including Totoro, but I know many people who believe Totoro is just a mascot and not knowing he has its own movie). Just agree that even if you didn't know about it it just means YOU are not very versed in Ghiobli films (which is NOT a dishonor; NOBODY is "required" to be very versed in ANYTHING) and enjoy the one-day build, pal. :-)

The seam in the sky backdrop could be made less noticeable with some touch-up paint. I had the same problem with sections of a large wallpaper mural in my living room. "Invisible" nylon sewing thread (.004" clear or grey) would show up much less to suspend the model than the black thread or wire Adam used.

I remember one night, a long long time ago, when my father brought a video tape (VHS?) of Nausicaa from work. At the time, Mr. Miyazaki and his creations were still completely unknown to the world, let alone even in Japan. My father had met Mr. Miyazaki who I recall was looking for advertiser(s) to fund the release/production of his work. A lot of time has passed since then, with more movies released and Mr. Miyazaki is now well recognized in the world, yet the story of Nausicca still remains to be my favorite of all his creations. Watching this KZbin video made me reminisce how I felt the very first time I ever saw Nausicca as a young human being still living in Japan.

Nausicaa is hands down my favorite Ghibli film. I think given the size of the display box, I would maybe place the motor in the side of the frame and connect it to a drive pulley with a small belt, that way it could be contained in a sound proofed inner box.

Realy nice build, I was only introduced to the movie about a year ago. But it is so good, I would advise watching it to young and old!

Made a big unit like that for simulated motion in a haunted house. Used an old tread mill for the mechanics. Added a video peppers ghost illusion over the top of the mechanical scene. Used it as a window in an elevator simulator. The illusion was a ghost broke the glass as you descended in the elevator. Cheers!

I’m so disappointed you guys spoiled this in the title and the thumbnail. It was clearly important to Adam as he was filming that this be something different, a surprise, and having that undercut the whole time was... yeah, it was disappointing.

Agreed! Atleast change the thumbnail, thats the LEAST thing you have to do imo!

Keywords in the title make a difference to people discovering the video. More people seeing it is worth any spoilers.

@@TMWriting , I still stand by my statement. Here’s the description and link to a video by a popular KZbin science communicator. His video informed my opinion but of course you should verify the claims for yourself. “My hypothesis is that the algorithm, rather than viewer preference, drives views on the site. As the algorithm shifts, various KZbinrs experience burnout (as what used to work no longer works) and right now click-through rate is the key metric. So clickable titles and thumbnails are the only way to get a lot of impressions and hence views - they are the only way to go viral. This leads me to wonder which audiences will become most prevalent on the site and if there will even be a place for educational content. In the long-term, hopefully KZbin is able to measure satisfaction through surveys and other metrics to ensure an optimal experience for everyone on the site.” - Veritasium kzbin.info/www/bejne/nHnWkmx6ptJ8mpo

Adam, thank you for doing this build. I really wanted to know how to make one of these moving panoramas for a fan film that I'm making and needed one of these for parts of the film. This is a massive help indeed. Thank you again.

I love how his shop somehow feels it’s like the converted garage of some farm or suburban home but in reality it’s on a busy San Francisco street and when you occasionally see the door open in the background it’s pure urban.

The math is really neat for the distance between the two poles, you just need the length of the paper, the overlap where the taping happens, and the circumference of the pole! Always a fun way to check your work
