That’s absolutely true, but I would say that the cameras on $1000 phones are pretty amazing. Of course the big restriction on these things is the size of the lenses, so you will need good lighting, and that’s not cheap, either - but you need good lighting in a workshop anyway.

Been an avid viewer on Tested for years. I love how Adam automatically becomes the host of anything he's ever on, and that he *literally* cannot go 5 seconds without talking about some trinket he's absolutely in love with. Never, ever change Adam (or do, that's probably more your philosophy!)

I love that Gerald is there for the technical details of how things are shot, but Adam's brain is in space thinking about the philosophy of audience-creator connections. So when Gerald asks one small question about a camera setup, Adam plunges into the entire history of a shot decision, and Gerald is left standing there with the 'I don't know what to do with my hands or focus' look. This was a lot of fun watching two completely different personalities interact. Fantastic coverage of a studio as always!

I love Adam so damn much, and as a regular Tested viewer, I can assure you we are constantly falling over haha. Once I start hearing the noise, I know we're tipping over. But it's part of the experience haha. Adam comes and picks us back up, says sorry guys, and gets back to work lol.

There's something satisfying and personal about that creaking noise that makes you feel like you're alone there next to Adam while he builds something. I hope he never changes that camera rig, the channel wouldn't be the same without that sound!

Its rare that a decrease in quality (video in this case) leads to an increased appeal. For me it felt so much more relatable, and home grown when the switch to the cell phone camera happened. I still love the high quality production with the expensive cameras, but the cell phone videos feel so much more intimate and off the cuff in the sense that it feels like Adam just setup and got shooting just for us as opposed to the whole production. Either way, Tested is quality and I'm here to support them! Also, I love the camera shake, the camera falls, the squeak of the lock line. All just adds to the authenticity.

It is. The original "wire nut" was made by the the Marr Company in 1914 (inventor: Bill Marr of Toronto, Ontario) and used a setscrew. The current Marrette connector was the evolution of that.

Watching Gerald ask a question and get a WEALTH of a story and philosophy is SO cool! I feel like he just tried to absorb every idea Adam pitched about storytelling and the minimum amount necessary to get to the endgoal (i.e. making a thing, telling a story about a thing and so on).
@Triflixfilms

The tour I always wanted but had no idea who would be prestigious enough to host it. It's so cool getting to see all of the overlaps between my favorite creators! Gerald has collabed with Adam Savage and MAKE ART NOW Corridor Digital had collabed with Adam Savage and LTT LTT has collabed with Pewdiepie and so many more It would be really cool if you could tour the Safety Third science studios at some point; Willy Osman, Micheal Reeves, Alan Pan, Neil Red, and Kevin. If they say their spaces are in shambles or not really a studio it would make for an even funnier video.... they are unhinged lol

It'd be even better if he did it in hazmat for Neil Red as a reference to the claim about radioactive material being easy to get and essentially no rules on disposal (other than the power plant grade and higher materials)

Great job on capturing the organised chaos of his workshop 😆 I think this style of filming works brilliantly in a small busy space like this - tripods very quickly become a pain in the arse (not to mention dangerous) when working around machine tools, so I love his god-awful creaky camera arm/clamp contraption. Also agree with Adam - WAGO connectors rock 🤩I use them for all my own household wiring now, they're super convenient.

Adam is like the most energetic showman while also being such a great technical mind. It's really fascinating how he sees storytelling from visual to the actual act. It's a testament to how people really need to understand "the best equipment" is only the best if it fits the job and how you work. It's a bit of "if it's stupid, and it works, then it's not stupid" because a noisy home rigging like he uses for camera and lights is a brilliant solution for how he works
@funknick
@funknick Ай бұрын
I love that Adam is the personification of "get it done and tell a story" as opposed to the filming gear heads that frequent this channel. There is nothing wrong with being deep into any of these topics, if we all did things the same, there would be no variety. It's really cool how the mutual respect here allows everyone to just vibe and share their respective focus for film making, crafting, and story telling. It takes all kinds, and I love this mashup.

Honestly I love the sound of when Adam moves the lock line in his videos, for me its similar to the mic things where it just adds to the authenticity of it, where it makes it feel more like Adams just going about his working day, and your just another tool of his desk watching it all, and getting to share in the journey

Mythbusters was like a class-trip where you see all the huge booms and everything, tested is for the one kid in class that wants to live and know everything about every little gadget that is in the shop. I failed science class miserably, but there is something about listening to Adam and his absurdly knowledgeable and infectious excitement about the things he does. Imagine doing the thing you love the most and breathing it without any hesitation and being able to convey that to so many people, Adam is THE DUDE.

Adam is an absolute god of inspiration and contagious giddiness. I could listen to him yap on about copper pipes for 20 minutes and I wouldn't notice time was passing. Really enjoying these Gerald. I especially enjoy the fact that what seems unrelated to what we do, there is common ground. Great that you are able to pull that out of these guests. I also did a few years as a graphic designer, and have always thought that it helped me in color grading. I have been saying the same things Adam said in this video - The idea that everybody's job in a film or TV show etc. is to guide the viewer to tell the story - is the job of lighting, camera, editing, and in my case color grading. It is essentially everyone's job on set - right down to the set design and costume etc. Great stuff in here - bonus for people like me that loved Mythbusters. What a great interview. cheers.
